    I am so frustrated by our shops (I live in the Netherlands), because every time I find a face wash/cleanser that suits my skin, when I finish the package and want to rebuy it, they have discontinued the product and have a complete new line of products. And then I buy the wrong stuff that will make my skin break out, and I have to discard it. Additionally, those lists of ingredients on the label also really freak me out. Now I use rosewater from a shop that doesn't change all their products every season and my skin seems fine with that

      literally I live in fear of finding the perfect product for my troublesome skin and them then discontinuing or changing the product 😭 it's super tricky!

    Finally someone is talking about palm oil! My household has not purchased products with palm oil for a couple years due to the habitat loss of elephants, and many other species. I have Palm Oil Scan on my phone. It says what products and brands (primarily grocery) are using Palm oil and if it's sustainably sourced. It's incredibly helpful because so many products (chocolate, cookies, soaps, shampoos, etc) use palm oil and there's like 30 names it can go by in item descriptions.

    17:47 “clean” beauty is ridiculous, especially with trying to villainise parabens and other chemicals - James Welsh talks about this a lot as well, but there are equally natural ingredients in skincare that can be just as harmful as chemicals. Companies scaring people with “chemicals” is just another way to charge more for “natural” products because people believe they’re better

    "Clean beauty" is a very clever marketing tactic, all you need to do is say that all of your competitors products are "unsafe" (with worryingly frequent uses of misinformation) and therefore your products are the only "safe" ones left to buy....how convenient.

    Please talk more about beauty products! I've been frozen in place about my skincare routine because all the brands around me are... questionable, once you dig a bit about their practices. So thank you for letting me know about Good On You's report! I will definitely use it to decide on what brands to buy from.

    Thank you for starting the conversation about so-called "clean beauty". Loved the video, it was very informative. I'm at a stage where I am genuinely scared of using the products I've spent my money on. I am trying to get more information on perfume/fragrances in the ingredients list. I've read that fragrances are not good but and are in EVERYTHING! Absolutely everything! I am waiting to use up my products before I replace them, not to waste - but finding alternatives isn't easy.

    It's definitely hard to keep a simple set of makeup products when social media and marketing is always pushing us to try new gimmicks. it's fun to try something new in your makeup but not EVERY day or anytime a micro trend surges. I got the MAC mascara refresher; it barely helps my lashes or has a purpose even as just a regular mascara. the FULL product name speaks for itself. It's like MAC didn't know what to make of it.

      literally this, I see these long routines and think am I not doing enough to look good, but know extra things would probably flare up my skin!

    We can know the main material of a garment but can't know the chemicals and substances used in the factory for treating the fabric such as dyes, flame retardants, fragrances, stabilizers, bleaches and such. There are hundreds of them and brands are not obligated to tell you, even tho they can be harmful to your health even just by skin contact wich is absurd.

    Also perfume adjacent to the beauty community, is super scammy for its pricing. But I’m curious how sustainable they are? Like is there ethical production in smell goods because more often than not, they’re made out of glass? Very awesome video btw ✨

    The amount of skin fridges I see at Goodwill has me lol (and 😢 a lil) every time.
    Also I feel like you kind of answered your own question of why people buy celebrity products. The beauty industry is SO SATURATED so to purchase something because your fave celebrity (who people share parasocial relationship) started it is almost like skipping the research when it comes to buying.

    Oooh, beauty topic!
    Myself, I'm kinda cheap (lol) plus I have difficult skin to manage (adult, hormonal acne, returning even after roaccutane), so I'm very difficult to even try something new in skincare (cheap or expensive) because I'm in fear it will make it worse. Sometimes seeing these cosmetics fridges, shelves full of different products, elaborate skincare routines, I am getting wishful, but then I remember my depression happens to make me sleep in with make-up, so...
    For make-up, I'm also faithful. Same cc cream since ???, 2 concealers on rotation plus Artdeco camouflage (for covering acne scars), brow pencil + mascara, 2 powders + setting one, Essence baked blush I swear by. No mascara because I'm clumsy and would look like panda and no eyeshadows because I can't operate them. No eyeliner either (I wish though I was versed in making myself a wing...).The only weakness are lips - I'm constantly tempted by K-beauty lip tints 😅

    Okay, so I agree and disagree with the conversation about Rhode's success. I do agree a lot of people buy Rhode just for Hailey Bieber and the marketing, but I disagree that there's nothing special about it or that Hailey claims it's the reason for her clear skin. Hailey has been very public about her passion for skincare and has done tons of videos about her routine, ingredients that she likes, and treatments she does, way before she launched Rhode. She spoke about building her brand for years before launching it including in videos with Hyram discussing what she was looking at for formulations.
    Personally, I was intrigued to see what she'd launch due to her deep interest and associated research in skin care, but ultimately never purchased anything as I was kind of disappointed by the product types and skeptical my super oily skin would like a line seemingly emphasizing moisture. None of the products were worth swapping into my routine in place of products I love and my skin likes.

    • @katierobinson
      @katierobinson  22 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา +1

      oh interesting, tbf I haven't bought it myself to review so was going off other people's thoughts on the products and what I could see on the website which just felt kind of like really nicely packaged but not unique products!
      would love to know why you were disappointed by the product types? what was missing for u?

    • @abunlover
      @abunlover 21 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      @@katierobinson Omg didn't expect a follow up haha!
      I don't know if it is still like this but when it was in pre-launch, the website claimed that the goal was to have a core set of products, not a ton of confusing options but a good cleanser, moisturizer and treatment because the best for your skin is good ingredients and a minimal routine. I resonated with that goal and was optimistic but once it was launched, I don't know if it was just the way the products were explained but it just felt confusing, I know Hailey has dry skin so they were very heavily focusing on that moisture and mentioned "slugging" which I've read is not always the best for oily skin and it didn't really explain how the products were good for oily or combination skin specifically.
      And then she launched the lip treatments and blush and I was just, eh, I was more looking for pure skin care. The phone case is a neat idea that is clearly a cash cow but again, meh, not what I thought the ethos of the brand was.

      There are definitely celebrity brands that are just cash grabs but there are a few that have a real purpose. Fenty, rem, Rhode and post rebrand Haus Labs all come to mind. I mean look at the, unfortunately short lived, trend of shade inclusivity that Fenty kicked off.

    Isn't tropic an mlm? Unless this is a thrive situation, in the US there an mlm called thrive and a small beauty brand also called thrive so people can get confused. I mostly bring it up because you seem like the type that wouldn't want to support a pyramid scheme that preys on mostly women.
    Also hopefully I'm not the 100th person to bring it up but morphe is pronounced as though there is a y at the end. It's not a particularly intuitive pronunciation.

      fair criticism, I think it's easy to slip into this when talking about sustainability because it feels like a really big mountain to climb and it can get me down at times. though I try end the videos on a positive note it's often right at the end of explaining the reality of the situation which is not so positive 😮‍💨
      I currently try make some different content alongside these industry insight vids, like my outfit inspo playlist, fashion advice and a gift guide I recently did for christmas that felt really wholesome to make 🫶 I'm also currently filming & planning new content for 2025 that focuses on brands and organisations and people creating solutions in the industry, which will hopefully balance out my content more.

      @@katierobinson You're talking about important topics that most people don't even start to address, and which are useful for most of the people following you to counterbalance all the consumerism and ads on everyone's YT homepage; and with all respect to the other commenter, it's not exactly difficult to find videos on a hundred thousand other topics if they're in a headspace where they need to just think about light entertainment for a while (which is perfectly valid and I think everyone has those times). But to suggest you change the entire ethos and purpose of your channel, and the reason why most people are following, is a little odd.
