      People don't trust her anymore. She lost that when she told people to vote for the father of mass incarceration....after creating the 13th, a documentary about mass incarceration.

    It breaks my heart to see Ava literally have to beg people to watch such an incredible piece of art filled with substance (27:30), all while we watched films like Barbie break the box office without neither Margot Robbie or greta gerwig needing to convince us to watch the movie. This the world we live in. 😭😭💔

      Right! My first thought was why are we not getting ppl excited about an Origins/ Color purple double feature. These movies both have heavy topics but so did Barbie and oppenheimer😴 and we know the color purple is filled with such rich indulgence in terms of film style, music and actresses and it has a color theme, PURPLE. I mean hello! Where we at and is it too late?

      Hardly any other races go to see all black films ( unless it's starring Denzel Washington,Eddie Murphy,etc,etc,.. ) Barbie is a no-brainer,lots of females grew-up with Barbie & Ken dolls,word of mouth travels fast. I'm a black male and will problably watch these films later on during the year,if not at all. These types of films don't interest me at all.

      The machine was designed to promote empty pictures like Barbie, anything that works to nurture a negative IQ is exactly what the architects of the Hollywood Film Industrial Complex aspire to. That and anything else that pushes THEIR message.
      Avas movies do not recognize their format or their false narrative. A large majority of the films Hollywood makes have don't make contact or impact and infact have a very short shelf life, they lack substance and educational value, they lack intersectionality. They make movies for business purposes, hence why they're always so formulaic, Avas movies are tactile.

An interesting observation -- I must've seen at least 100 interviews, in conversations -- whatever you call them with Ava. Now remember Ava has early origins as a freestyle artist (check out This is the Life) -- everything about her energy is so relaxed -- you can tell she's a born creative and most at ease behind the mic or camera. I had the pleasure of seeing this magnificent, teachable and emotional movie today. When Isabelle said she missed interviewing the gentleman who was the little black young man because he passed away, I kind of wished that she maybe could’ve spoken to or interviewed his family members to see if he had expressed to them how he felt about his mistreatment at the pool. So heartbreaking 😢.

    Dialogue starts from the courageous willingness to know and be known by others. It is the painstaking and persistent effort to remove all obstacles that obscure our common humanity.
    Women often lead the charge when it comes to discussion and dialogue about healing and reconciliation, that's why their voices are powerful.
    Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg argued that “women should be wherever decisions are being made.” The world doesn’t owe women the favor of letting them lead, but it has much to gain when they do.
    Tremendous! Thanks to Ava, Aunjanue, Audra and Neicy for paving a way for all of us💕🌹👑

    I know this will be a hard movie to watch but I'm going to watch it and I'm taking all who want to go with me!!. Like Ava says it is urgent that "We the Black People" understand the seriousness of what is going on in this country right now! Rights are being stripped away, injustice is blatant, books are banned, we are on a backward and downward spiral and everyone should be concerned!! I respect Ava DuVernay as a woman and as a filmmaker. We need her and many more as a leader to bring us to the truth. Her way is through films, her gift. We all have an obligation to ourselves to learn for ourselves! Thank you Ava Duvernay for your passion, your hard work, and your drive...

    What makes me soooo sad for real is the fact that we have an amazing, intentional, incredible, talented director, filmmaker like Ava DuVernay and there aren’t marketing dollars put into films like Origin. I’m not saying every film should get millions and millions in marketing. However it’s just sad that a movie like Origin that is so important doesn’t even get enough marketing dollars for people to be even aware of this film. It’s just sad. It’s just sad that filmmakers like Ava gotta fight. Like for real fight to promote Origin. I’m tired. Movies like Origin deserve better. Filmmakers and actors like Ava and Aunjanue deserve better.

    @8:00 DuVernay not getting offers to direct or write scripts is definitely about prejudice. She is a top name, and has been since 2005 when Grey's Anatomy was in its 2nd season and she was winning awards. That's nearly 20 years!

    • @JenJHayden
      @JenJHayden 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I had to screenshot this as proof of how ignorant people can be. it is laughable for you to mention prejudice when you can’t even tell two black women apart. Ava DuVernay has zero involvement in Grey Anatomy. My oh my, the irony of your comment is not lost.
