A NEW TOGGLE TRICK NOBODY KNOWS

  • I WAS WATCHING A TH-cam CHANNEL AND SAW HOW THIS GENTLEMAN USED A SIMPLE TOGGLE TO FORM A LOCKING TOGGLE. FROM THAT I FELT I COULD ADD THE TOGGEL TO MY ADJUSTABLE GUY LINE AND FORM A LOCKING TOGGLE LOOP THAT WOULD WORK LIKE A CINCH STRAP FOR HOLDING LOADS.I USED MY WCKNIVES BLACKBIRD TO CUT A OAK BRANCH OF PROPER SIZE. THEN I REMOVED THE BARK AND LOCATED THE PLACE TO CUT THE SMALL HOLE FOR THE 550 PARACORD. TO BORE THE HOLE I USED MY VICTORNOX FIELDMASTER CUTTING AWL. THIS AWL ALLOWED THE HOLE TO BE CLEAN CUT WITH LESS CHANCE OF SPLINT THE OAK STICK. ONCE THE BASICK HOLE WAS BORED I SHIFTED THE THE SMALL BLADE OF THE FIELDMASTE TO DRESS THE EDGES AND PREVENT SPLITING. FINALLY I USED THE PHILIPS SCREWDRIVER TO FULLY OPEN AND ROUND OUT THE HOLE . I HAD ARLEADY CREATED A ADJUSTABLE GUY LINE FROM 550 PAPACORD.ITH THE END PASSED THRU THE TOGGLE I CREATED I WAS READY TO TEST MY IDEA. USING THE ADJUSTABLE GUY LINE I WAS ABLE TO MAKE THE CORD FIT THE LOAD BY SLIDING THE PRUSICK KNOT TO PROPER SIZE.THEN THE TOGGLE USED TO CINCH THE LOAD TIGHT THE TOGGLE PREVENTS THE PARACORD FROM SLIPPING AND SERVES THE PLACE OF A BUCKLE WITH OUT HAVING TO TIE KNOTS.

      Hey Blackie, Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us! I was thinking when you mentioned of shortening the toggle, would it maybe be better to leave it the length you originally have it 2"-3" so maybe it wouldn't undo as easily while walking through thicker brush from hitting on a limb/snag. Yes it might still twist from being longer but it will be less likely "longer length" of popping under the synch down line? Just a thought ;) Keep bringing the great video's 👍

      Get that vid out there. Ive been using this method for my ridgeline. Essentially a truckers hitch with the toggle placed through the loop you make, then wrap around the toggle figure of eight or tie off. Got a permanently attached toggle at the other end for securing the loop around the other tree 👍 i hang things off my ridgeline so i like a lot of tension.
      Just checked the date on the vid above. Also checked out the ridgeline vid. We came to exactly the same solution independently 👍

    I watched Felix's video yesterday and made a few of theses. I tapered my toggle ends. That made the undoing easier. The toggle also works on tarp tie outs, so it could be an adjustable guildline. The toggle works on a trucker hitch too, so good for ridgelines.

You people that say that you’ve successfully done this can I have you do it again. And then pull on the toggle (simulates hitting/bumping the toggle on rocks while hiking and climbing). it comes loose. At least it does for me with military-grade 550 and 275 paracords.

    Hey from Canada, love your stuff and devious mind, what about a heavy rubber hose in the bowline so you can pull using the hose as a handle, even better leave a slot in the hose so the cordage can create a loop coming out of the slot to attach to the toggle to create a carry handle like you showed...

    Took a few extra steps to get there but you got there, kind of. Try a stop knot on one end after adding the toggle, bowline knot in the other end. Wrap around whatever you want to cinch up. hold bowline and pass just the toggle through the bowline loop. There should now be standing and working end coming out of the bowline loop with the toggle holding it in place. Pull on working end only to cinch down....no need for fancy single strand prussiks, handle loops (as this can easily be cinched to a pack to begin with before joining loop and toggle) and no hard failures so long as working end is on top of toggle and jammed (by toggle) against the bowline loop.

    nice! another way to do it without the stick is to make a loop on one end of the cordage, wrap it around whatever you want and then just put the other end of the line throught the loop TWO TIMES and then pull and sinch it, it will have enough friction to hold. you can tie the rest of the line just above it make sure it doesn't slip but it won't. to undo it you pull the line in the opposite direction and it will undo itself easily. very good for tree to tree lines for tarps as well: tie one end to a tree then go around the other tree, make a loop somewhere on the rope, free end goes two times throught just like before and pull towards the second tree. try it out it's worth it :) have a good day!

    Saw Felix Immler do this about a year ago. Works great. I recommend replacing the bowline with a zeppelin loop always as there are situations where a bowline has failed and the zeppelin is one of the strongest knots you can use. Then use that for the toggle loop. Then for looks use a monkey fist on the other end.

    Try a 3 wrap taught line hitch instead of your prussik. Much cleaner. Larger 6 foot toggle lines were used by the British commandos in WW2. The use by the common soldier of “small hemp cords, an arms breadth, with a toggle” are documented since the 18th century. Felix really rocks!

    That line you have there, can that be used as an adjustable ridgeline?

    • @robertfelts8773
      @robertfelts8773 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Like that knot that was on the adjustable side, it locks on the line and can be moved and tightened when adjustments are wanted?

      I can and do . 'Course i'm "special". Many ask what they can do or say and even think. I just go ahead and live life. Works for me ...

      yes i am sure it could be used for that..many uses come to mine its a simple matter of scale up or down to fit and what type of cord to use

    I was watching how you used 2 or 3 lines of para-cord around your rolled up tarp to tighten it up to carry on pack. ? wonder if this be good idea of creating a multi- bar of cinch cords. take a piece wood (stick) about 1/4" x 1" W x (10-12"L) drill 2 or 3 holes, run para-cord through each put end knot, then the toggles on each line, then place flat stick on rolled up tarp, wrap the lines around, and cinch them all down. guess I'm being lazy really, by trying to evenly balance out the cinching down process more evenly at once than struggling first with one line then a 2nd or 3rd line around big, bulky tarp, bed roll, etc.

    You mentioned you adapted this from another utuber. Back in the '50s my Grandfather always had a 2-3 ft piece of cotton rope loop on 1 end, stop knot on other, and a toggle sliding between. Used it to hold all kinds of things until could get twine or wire.
    Watched your quick ridgeline, using toggle in place of truckers hitch. Have you added a 2nd toggle next to bowline? Instead of passing whole line thru loop, just toggle. Then you could choke tight on tree, would not slide down before you get other end tight.

    Hi Blackie
    I made the same comment on Felix´s channel. If you double back the line you pull through, you do not risk damaging the cloth with the toggle. You would just pull the loose end to pull it loose. Like a thieves knot.
    Kind regards
    Alain

    Hello Blackie, very good trick, I have a problem with it, when I pull hard on the rope to tighten, and I already have everything really tight, when I release it, the toggle returns 45 degrees and loosens slightly. I am using 550 paracord and a toggle identical to the one in your video

    • @BLACKIETHOMAS
      @BLACKIETHOMAS  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      the 550 cord may be too slick some are more "toothy" than others that or your loop the toggle is in is too big

    I use it all the time hanging my work bag in my truck in the fashion of a truckers hitch.
    It also means I can hang my 12 litre water filter system at the exact height for the outlet pipe to sit at the top of my bottle.
