Thanks for encouraging us ❤ with my morning coffee I jot down things I want in my life or I see myself in years from now ( helped getting the apartment of my dreams- got a car gifted etc) but at the end of the day I go over the next day - what are things I have to accomplish- and what would I like to do - I need lists and reminders on my desk and on my phone- currently sitting in my recliner glancing at my living room- a big smile and relief cause with your help I got here - I have floor space without cluttered boxes framing the walls - I still have more to declutter- but now I’m no longer overwhelmed- you rock girl ❤
Dear Cass. I want to thank you for your podcasts. A week ago, I was listening, and you encouraged me to get up and do something. I was actually sitting down at the computer, and I didn't really want to get up. Then I opened a desk drawer (which I already knew needed some serious help) and before I knew it not only the drawers in the computer desk were cleaned out, but also the two-drawer filing cabinet, and another desk in the same room! Want to know where this all led? Glad you asked! It led to Swedish Death Cleaning...seriously! It's something that I've been contemplating doing but never got motivated. Thanks, Friend. You are awesome the way you inspire! xx
I have been listening and decluttering for a week. I have watched you for years but I finally decided to listen to you. Unbelievable what you can do in a week 😮😮😮😮
It is very helpful for perfectionists when you say 5 minutes is enough and it's progress and it's better than it was. It really does help when it feels like too much and that overwhelm is paralyzing! Breaking down big lists into one small step and then stopping actually makes progress. Otherwise you won't even start because it feels too difficult!
My grandma made a rule for herself to never go to bed with a dirty kitchen. And every morning she tells herself, see, aren't you glad you dont have to clean the kitchen.
It was law in our house growing up. No food or dirty dishes left bc it attracts bugs & rodents. So, thankfully I don’t have that nor laundry concerns bc I enjoy getting everything clean & put away. Still, my house is a mess. Every time I make progress, 48 hours is the longest it lasts.
As someone with non hyperactive ADD and chronic disorganization and chronic procrastination (task avoidance), I LOVE your motivation videos!! Please keep them coming. I relate so much to you Cass, I wish you were my next door neighbor. I've joined Take Your House Back and between you, Dana and m.m., I have hope. Hugs and 🤎 from your Montana "neighbor"
Thanks for that Cas, during the podcast was able to load and unload the dishwasher and unpack my suitcase which had been on the bedroom floor for a week!!!!
Thanks Cass! I remember years ago at a work training event being told that “motivation” is about having a “MOTIVe for AcTION”. Personally I find that music helps keep me going, but I’m not always motivated to put the music on because then I know I’ve got no more excuses hahahaha
While listening, I washed my dish drainer tray and containers and replaced the old rusty one with a new one I bought yesterday. Normally it would take me a week or more to get to something like that. Procrastinating less little by little.
It's funny: I don't need much external motivation, if at all, but I enjoy listening to someone who thinks as I do. The energy-matching provides a sense of peace
I'm going today to work on our storage unit today. I'm definitely gonna use the excitement movements to motivate myself, thanks Cas, I have seen Tony Robbins do this, hope it works, wish me luck everyone!! Trying to get rid of it to not have to pay anymore!!
Me too girl!!! Im actually moving(decluttering) stuff from two units into a unit that is only 1 size up so that we actually get rid of stuff BEFORE we have to put it in a uhaul and move. I do NOT want everything in those units coming with us to a new place dragging me down. Wishing you all the motivation you want and to easily figuring out what is keep, donate, trash!
Thank you Cas! This helps SO much! I have 4 kids.....3 if them 5 and under, so the constant interruptions make it hard to feel I have accomplished anything. Thanks for all the practical tips! I think the biggest thing I struggle with is moving past the bare minimum...........dishes, meals, laundry, child care. I have been decluttering and telling myself 5 min matters. It is getting better. Just takes time.
yes, when my 5 kids were all small I was told to try and do one thing each day that can't be undone ... decluttering, even for 5 minutes counts because you are getting stuff out of your home that you don't have to deal with any more. Other things are phoning a friend (or sending them an email), reading a book (for 5 minutes or a chapter), working on a hobby a bit at a time (I used to knit, now I scrapbook).
I felt the exact same way as you when my 4 close-together kids were small. I almost never could move past the bare necessities. I so wish I would have had Cas to guide me, but 50 years ago, that was impossible. 😢
This is all full well. I have been doing this for months now, and I actually enjoy cleaning and tidying now, getting a real dopamine kick from it. Now unfortunately the procrastination has tacked onto other things. I now clean to procrastinate my work, or phonecalls I don't want to make... My house house has never looked better. Guess I have to apply the same principle for the other stuff now. 😆
I listened to Daily Connoisseur and got up and got dressed (it was about dressing well even though you’re staying home) and then I turn on your video and get up and clean and make soup!! 😆 🙌🏼 I was definitely helped by my favorite TH-camrs this morning 💜
Honestly, one big thing for me was when I just decided that I wouldn't do "The Most Urgent Thing" (ie cooking, dishes) while hubby was at work. I started to do other things that maybe weren't as urgent technically, but we're also important, had been procrastinated for a long time and would actually result in long-term progress (ie clean out the junk room, little by little, so the kids could finally move in there and out of our bedroom). Because we can't do that when the kids are home because it would just result in a catastrophy, but we can cook when the kids are home even if it's more stressful.
Yes, I had one of those days today, however I’m still recovering from a bug, so pleased with what I did get done. I appreciate the encouragement from you. Thank you so much
I love all of your videos! This was very helpful! I’ve been doing the five minutes for this or even one minute for that, and it’s amazing that my house looks clean and organized enough if somebody stopped by unannounced for the first time in my life
I have some to do items that involve other people. I need to hire an electrician for some repairs and call my phone company to fix the bell on my phone. These are some safety issues. The other things are financial and need to be done as long as I am in good health. Finally, I need to declutter my house (garage, storage building, basement, and bedrooms). My attic is a true mystery. What is up there? I think I'll ask a neighbor to go up there and take pictures of what it is, so I know if it's mobile or not. The decluttering I will do for 15 minutes with a 5 minute break, then another 15 minutes and so on until I can't do any more. Thanks for your videos, Cass, they act as my "therapist" in a way.
Cas, Great podcast. I am so proud of myself. I have been cleaning & maintaining the main areas of our home for a month now. I'm so excited. I really want to keep it up so I keep telling myself, don't put it down put it away, 5 min matter, etc. I'm trying to find ways to put things away that's easier to keep things easier to tidy. Thank you for all your encouragement. 😊
I am listening to you in bed, throwing all expired makeup away..and I did declutter all the files and organized them in pretty files. That helped and label the files..and argued with alexa..lol
I just remembered the vision board I did while looking for a man and also female friends. I was overwhelmed when I actually started dating a guy sitting in the exact same way as the guy in the picture. And the women I became friends with looked the same too!
Cas, I love you & your channel! I watched all the episodes of Hot Mess House....you're so awesome....but when you moved, you stressed me OUT! LOL! I'm looking forward to retiring within the next 3-5 years & we will be moving, so I'm quite motivated to make it as organized & easy as possible for my future (older!) self. I'm decluttering another layer & curating my collections to a smaller level. I don't want to be throwing things into a trash bag at the last minute; I REALLY want to be prepared!
as soon as you said "high five yourself in the mirror" i did it! cos i'm so proud of myself deep cleaning my oven for the first time earlier! then realized too late that i just put on lotion. now i have a lotion hand print on my mirror to clean up later. 🤦♀😂 later cos i'm eating my lunch right now 😂😂😂
Before and after photos help me. Even pretending that I am doing this task for someone else “poor MRS. Brown has some chaos- death in the family, broke her back, has four children under five, had a wreck on the way home from work, is undergoing chemotherapy, etc.” or I pretend that I am making a video like you influencer ladies bringing order to a pretend client. Acting- is fun.
I used to lose my keys almost every day. I finally started to try to put them in my purse with a strap attached. When I’d find them somewhere else I’d go right then and put them in my purse. I NEVER lose my keys now. And I’m not afraid to jinx myself because it’s automatic.
I use a similar strategy. I use a carabiner clip. I don't actually carry a purse, but I can clip them on my belt loop or on my shirt, or onto the basket that I take to the car when I am going to run errands. I still lose them sometimes, but I am getting better.
I have to deal with my mom’s estate. It’s been way way too long. But every time I try I cry and get so upset and it seems like there is a road block or something extra difficult that comes up. Even now just writing this I’m brought to tears. I feel like a mess. And it’s overwhelming and it feels like I can’t do it and there is apsolutely no one else to do it but me. 😭😭😭
I’m so sorry. My heart goes out to you my clutterbug friend. I wish I could be there to help you. When my son got married and moved out of state, it really helped me to take tons of pictures of his room and all his things. Also, Cas really helps me to get motivated. Take care of yourself. Sending love, hugs and prayers to you Donna! 🥰🤗🙏🏼 You can do this! 😀👍🏻
Rid yourself of self-doubt and negative thought. We don't have time for that! It doesn't add anything good to our day. Do what you can do just for today and goal stack for the next day, soon you will see all you have accomplished. You can do it, girl🎉
Does anyone else have experience with a vision board/ reminder making them sad that they don’t yet have the thing they want? I would love to flip this around to motivate myself, but I’m stuck feeling sorry for myself 🙄
I started my decluttering journey about a year ago and am 8 months pregnant now with my 3rd child. I have made a lot of progress, but I feel anxious about what I still have to do. I want it completed before baby comes, but I don't think I can make it happen now because I have such bad pelvic pain that I'm pretty much on bed rest. How do I keep my motivation going after baby comes when I'm going to be wrapped up in caring for them and their siblings and everything that comes with postpartum?
If you need to hear it: You have permission to NOT focus on the house during the new baby phase!! Right now you're literally busy growing a whole new human, and that is enough. That "4th trimester" is when your priority is on baby AND your recovery! Take that timeout, _then_ get back to it afterwards, once you're sleeping and able again. Give yourself the grace to recover well 💗🙏
Dana K White at A Slob Comes Clean recommends starting with - and continuing to focus on - your most visible spaces. That way, you'll always have something to show for your efforts! Also, she emphasizes that your house is not a project! It is routines. So follow her 5-step no-mess decluttering method to make real, no-backtrackable progress in small pockets of time. Congratulations and best of luck!
Hey hun! You have permission to give yourself a break. Look at how much you have done in a year, including how amazing you have done growing a new life, and taking care of your family! If you have people in your life asking you if they can do anything to help when the baby comes, say YES! And make a list of the tasks you wish you had time to do, then give it to them. If your other kids are old enough, you can ask them to do more of the routine housework right now to help you be able to take care of their new sibling and have time to spend with them. Many times my 10yo is willing to help me (without getting extra chore money) to clean up everything because i ask her if she can please help me clean up because i need her help today and it would mean so much to me. Our kids love us. and being able to do something that puts a smile on our face or gives us more time to spend with them, instead of cleaning, makes them feel important to us.
@catara99 my kids are 4 and 2 right now, so they need me a lot. Any cleaning or organizing I do has to be in small chunks and it works if I do it enough. It's when I fall behind on the regular stuff that I have the most issues.
I encourage you to do it for yourself! You are worth creating an environment that you love to be in! In case no one has told you today, God loves you! 😊💜🙏
I care! ❤I have had to do things that make me happy! So if cleaning the kitchen makes me happy I do it ! I do for myself because makes me happy or feel better!
Thank you Cas for all your help and support . I struggle alot with getting motivated and the idea of brain dumping and circling what's important and booking an important to do things is really going to help me xx🫂💜🫶
Your podcasts are MY therapy, I just love them as they clear the clutter in my mind ❤ You motivate me to do my work. Thank you
I actually laughed out loud when she said “and then I organized the spice cupboard… for some reason”. So relatable.

Kudos on jobs well done! I’m 74 and this Girl motivates me too! I just finished organizing an area in my office in my house! 🏡 😅
This is Barb not Bruce lol I should change this out! 😊

The BEST tip that I have ever gotten was when you talked about running your life like a train!
Thanks for that Cas, during the podcast was able to load and unload the dishwasher and unpack my suitcase which had been on the bedroom floor for a week!!!!

It IS the TRUTH that 5 minutes matters!!!!!!!!
Thanks Cass! You rock 🪨!
Cass, For a "vision board" on my phone, I put a picture of lava and a quote that every surface is lava! Lol, yay, Canva!
i LOVE that the podcasts are also video's! please keep that! thanks for all your inspirational video's!
I needed to get out of the house within the next hour. I turned on your voice so I would move! Thank you!!!
It's funny: I don't need much external motivation, if at all, but I enjoy listening to someone who thinks as I do. The energy-matching provides a sense of peace
My biggest motivator is watching the show Hoarders
I'm going today to work on our storage unit today. I'm definitely gonna use the excitement movements to motivate myself, thanks Cas, I have seen Tony Robbins do this, hope it works, wish me luck everyone!! Trying to get rid of it to not have to pay anymore!!

My motivation comes from the consequences that will happen if I don't do something!🤩

Steven Covey, 4 quadrants. His book, The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People, is a classic. Good job explaining it.
I've also found decluttering stops me emotional eating.
I have some to do items that involve other people. I need to hire an electrician for some repairs and call my phone company to fix the bell on my phone. These are some safety issues. The other things are financial and need to be done as long as I am in good health.

I am so glad I found you and take back your house. I am a butterfly
Thank you Cass!❤
I love the be kind to your future self tip, i also do little 10 minute tidys through the day, thank you xx
I am at the beginning of decluttering...I like to think how things look more beautiful, something in my kitchen I embellish some boring thing.
Great ideas! I took a ten min Power Nap while breakfast casserole finished baking.
My future self thanks you Cas! Tub scrubbed and laundry done!

Hey Cas! Can't wait to see your new vision board!❤
Love this video. I don't know how many times I've watched it.
Five minutes DOES matter! It’s amazing.
I am listening to you in bed, throwing all expired makeup away..and I did declutter all the files and organized them in pretty files. That helped and label the files..and argued with alexa..lol
Oh I need this today! Thanks x broken butterfly.
Yeah, my kitchen is done for today and I really wasn't feeling it!!!! Thanks for the motivation!!!❤❤❤
I LOVE Tony and Mel! They are amazing! I first found Tony in 2013 and just found Mel recently ❤
I just remembered the vision board I did while looking for a man and also female friends. I was overwhelmed when I actually started dating a guy sitting in the exact same way as the guy in the picture. And the women I became friends with looked the same too!
Got my bedroom cleaned up 😊

I NEEDED this today. I feel like a bum.
Rid yourself of self-doubt and negative thought. We don't have time for that! It doesn't add anything good to our day. Do what you can do just for today and goal stack for the next day, soon you will see all you have accomplished. You can do it, girl🎉

You are always so beautiful, but holy crap you can really tell that you are working out and taking care of yourself inside and out
Thank God for my dexadrine for those days (ADHD meds)
Eating the frog first and learning to do the important things first. Not urgent, because some things seem urgent but they're not important.
Does anyone else have experience with a vision board/ reminder making them sad that they don’t yet have the thing they want? I would love to flip this around to motivate myself, but I’m stuck feeling sorry for myself 🙄
Ok I have a question, I just spent all night decluttering ALL my files 7hrs..still have to do more of other things..I am tired..is light outside!!
Do you know diane in denmark (flylady) on youtube?
If you need to hear it: You have permission to NOT focus on the house during the new baby phase!! Right now you're literally busy growing a whole new human, and that is enough.

If I won the lottery I would probably faint so...not a good idea for me lol. Some good ideas there.
We won't all have dishwashers
Rhonda Byrne on your podcast, that's what I'm manifesting 😉
I have to trick myself into 15 minutes
Tell Alexa..lol
I live alone so nobody really cares
I encourage you to do it for yourself! You are worth creating an environment that you love to be in! In case no one has told you today, God loves you! 😊💜🙏
I care if your house is clean
I live alone, too, but my daughter does care. I also need to declutter my house so they don't have to do it when I'm gone.
Me too
