The little circular, brass thing adjacent to the wing compass is a compass horn. Set the compass needle point in the indent at the center of the horn. This prevents the compass needle point from digging into paper while drawing multiple concentric circles. The three pins on the horn hold it in place as you swing the compass through an arc.

First vintage drafting set I was able to get my hands on was a Riefler E20. Love the drop bow on this G35 set
This G35 set is still one of my all time favorites. I don’t think I will ever get rid of it.
