Nice bit of fault finding there Tony
Thanks George! ..
Excellent. Nice piece of equipment. Hopefully an easy fix once the parts arrive :)
Thanks, yes lets see.
Nice old counter, made when I was just starting school :o Made in UK too. Looking forward to part 2.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Nice work, Tony! I saw that discolored tant when you first showed the Phillips chip and shouted "Shorted tant" at the screen but you didn't hear me 😂. Probably the tant shorted and took out the transistor. Regards, David
Thank you David... i think the screaming helped, we found the problem, thanks for your help, and comment
Thanks for another interesting video... 👍👏😻
Thank you too!
Very nice work! You make it look easy.
Thank you, i was luckey teh service manual was very good in explaning the signal path... must admit first time i seriously read one also :)
reading them makes your life more easy then staring at the scematic and trying to find out. or Racal was just very good in describing.
I see lots of red dipped tantalum caps, I expect you will find at least one that is shorted, whenever I see the red ones I definitely see red… make sure the main power supply has very low ripple to try to prevent the tantalums blowing up.
Thanks, so the red ones are the worse... will do that extra check on the psu caps..
I've made space for dim-bulb box at work area to be used for all new-old equipment. I'll use it until I have some confidence there will be no catastrophe. I feel I've just been rolling the dice by relying on a finger close to the power switch for that smoke making fault.
Yes that bulb trick is used a lot in the valve/tubes community, great idea.
@@TonyAlbus I don't use VT's much, but I'm wary of those old capacitors.
Those Philips OM modules are easily replaced with a modern MMIC chip. The Philips modules were extremely unreliable and noisy too, but were used in many devices back then.
Yes for the Marconi are kits available with MAR-3SM chips... i talk about it in the video and left links in the description
ciekawy miernik i ma wzorzec ocxo to ważne by dokładnie pracował. Jaka max częstotliwość jest jego ? Widzę że ma miejsce na rozbudowę.
Yes seems very stable indeed, it goes upto 680 MHz, but i think we can push it a bit more, i will try when it is fixed, to see what is the max.
I have an HP frequency counter on my lab bench i have not used in a decade. Just not a piece of equipment that brings value to what I do. If I need frequency I use my scope measure. If I need a counter I use my scope search. Maybe I might need to count something over a few days and I might use it again one day or I may never power that thing up again but I do now and then enjoy pushing those hp break away buttons.
The HP counter are nice too, you will find a few in my videos too.
