At the heart of the musical appeal in this piece is the interplay of rhythms based on counts of three and four - the very same phenomenon that underpins so much of rock and roll (Chuck Berry for example). Dowland himself was, in his day, a superstar lutenist, composer and bad boy, often in trouble with polite society's norms. A Renaissance Hendrix?.
I really like the phrasing and expression in this one. It often seems the lyrics don´t really fit the melody in this tune, but you made it work, and it sounds just so...easy, fluent...natural.
