What a great song. I admit that I found this video after watching Irish artists playing it impromptu in an airport with fellow passengers joining in. I had completely forgot Steve Earle wrote Galway Girl and I'm even a fan so I'm a little disappointed with myself. It seems that the entire of country of Ireland has adopted his song as their own and I hope that makes Steve proud because it certainly makes me proud for him.
Bryan Murphy I saw that one also. Wish I could have been there in person. That was a great video. Nice to hear the original songwriter’s version as well.
I´m german, drinking guinness right now... that song is pure culture. I want to visit ireland again. Miss that stuff a lot.
Spirits aren't contained by mere borders...
Yeah same. I want to invest in a mandolin. I already play the guitar, so I'm wanting to get this too
found, lost, and refound- nothing alt all wrong with that
There's many versions of this great song but I think the simplicity of Steve Earle just playing his creation like this is one of the best. I was fortunate enough to see him nearly thirty years ago at the Stone Pony in Asbury Park, NJ. Steve Earle has written many songs that are well worth listening to.
I don’t know what’s better.
The fact he wrote it.
Or the fact he’s still got the vocals to absolutely crush it. So smooth and so gravely at the same time. Goes down like a nice glass of whiskey.
He's still got it.
Hell, he got it even when the tags still hanging off it!
It's like he's the salesman when a customer complains and says "I can't get this mandolin to play"..... and Steve comes over and takes the mandolin. He sits down and says, "Let me see if there's something wrong with it."
What a nice and perfect description. Braught me to smile.
Old man still got it! Beautiful song man!
I love that a song Steve wrote is played all over Ireland.
Here in Newfoundland it is one of the most popular songs. You walk into a Irish bar which we have plenty of you are gonna hear this song, I’ve been playing in a few now and every time I play this song everyone sings it and everyone loves it. It is such a beautifully written song
He created with this song a real anthem for ireland, cause there is a soul in this song ! 👍
Yes, indeed. It's an anthem. Such a great gift to the Irish people and they recognize it as such.
I hope y'all are doing ok in this crisis. Having Steve play in your shop should make you a national treasure.
Still greatest artist and singer and songwriter. Why enjoy listen to all his music songs though years, Thank You.
Just found this guy and i love this song
I absolutely love his jangly Mandolin style, it sounds so full and wonderful!
Steve is a legend!
Love it......every event in Ireland you will hear this song....love Steve Earle
My father died and i am sitting here with his mandolin, so here comes my stupid question: Is thtis standard tuned, and how does he make the grips sound that nice, because i dont know where to put my fingers to make it sound like that...
If you think you have natural talent, full of ambition and self belief and not scared of rocky roads you might just might become something close to Steve Earle .
Love you Steve. You are the 21st century's poet,
Reminded of my days in Ireland. Great great country and people.
Immortal song at this point 💚
In 2016 I lost the love of my life. She was a lovely Ros Coma’in gurl. I just loved to sing this song to her. And wished that her Father sang the same to her Mother. Up the Rebels!!
This guy rocks
Love this song.. love this simple performance.. Can't wait to see him in Nov. , hope he plays this and I thought by Now ♡
How was the concert?
God bless u Steve Earle
Steve is also a folk artist and 'Galway Girl' is a Folk Song with a capital 'F' ♥
F for Forgetful.....
@@blakealford5302 go to Ireland you'll hear it in every bar on the west coast
He's the very best
I think Steve knows what he’s doing
£20,000+ mandolin right there played the way it should be 🔥
No troll, in love with the scroll. He did what he always does with this song....he nails it. But Steve tune the dog-gone thing!!!!
It sure is! He’s a legend.
this song is of historical importance
A companion piece to this song is "From Galway to Graceland" by Richard Thompson. I'll give you a taste: "Oh she dressed in the dark/ and she whispered amen/ she was pretty in pink like a young girl again/ 20 years married/ and she never thought twice/ she sneaked out the door and walked into the night...."
Look up the song for the rest of the story.
Well, I took a stroll on the old long walk
Of a day -I-ay-I-ay
I met a little girl and we stopped to talk
On a grand soft day -I-ay-I-ay
And I ask you, friend, what's a fella to do
'Cause her hair was black and her eyes were blue
And I knew right then I'd be takin' a whirl
'Down the Salthill Prom with a Galway girl
We were halfway there when the rain came down
Of a day -I-ay-I-ay
And she took me up to her flat downtown
On a grand soft day -I-ay-I-ay
And I ask you, friend, what's a fella to do
'Cause her hair was black and her eyes were blue
So I took her hand and I gave her a twirl
And then I lost my heart to a Galway girl
When I woke up I was all alone
With a broken heart and a ticket home
And I ask you friend, what would you do
If her hair was black and her eyes were blue
See I've traveled around I've been all over the world
Boys I ain't never seen nothin' like a Galway girl
I know I’m late but if you haven’t listen to the entire transcendental blues album. It’s entirely worth it
Love it!!!!
We were in Heaven at Gus O’Conchobair’s public house in Doolin Eir’e where they are known for traditional music. A ten year old boy sang this song. I will fondly remember this for the rest of my life.
Just saw that Steve is playing @ MACC (Maui) the same night as a concert here on the Big Island....Will be seeing John Prine @ MACC in March - 2 of my favorites here.
😭😭😭
Great story fine singing
Great mandolinist!
You'll hear this at every Irish wedding as the Guinness flows and the feet are lubricated sufficiently.
✨
Recently bought a mandolin and I hope to learn this song on it someday. I'm still just messing about with chords at the moment rather than getting the melodies down on it. But it's slowly getting there
Hey I can do it now :D
Seriously not trolling. I love this song and have been a huge fan of Earle's for over a quarter century, but Steve...come on...tune that mando! It's a Gilly. Those things are over $10,000. I know you can tune it, man :)
Glad it's not just me noticing it.
Same!
Very nice...
The best.
You've wrote a masterpiece there Steve. You can die happy.
excellent

Another great Steve Earle song.

Reminds people it's for sale.
Minnie Pearl signature model..
@@c.shearin5814 exactly Americans can appreciate minnie.
Galway shawl Steve earle
🙏👍👏
Nice.
There's a troll trying to steal the title of this real piece of music
Yeah but when people hear it they realise they've been conned.
you can enjoy both
Love the tag just "hanging out"
It sounds like the mandolin was thrust into his hands before being tuned properly. New strings are actually the worst to keep in tune as they slip so easily for a while.
Does anyone know the name of the song he plays as the intro?
Did you ever find out what it is?
I think it was all just improvised?
@@christianmendoza8394 I am pretty sure he wrote it, but it is not improvised in the moment. He often plays it when he plays the song live.
Sounds like The Cork Hornpipe.
It’s called Dominick St.
Don’t get better than that ....
tutorial pls
Is it me or is the tuning/intonation off?
Yeah, it's pretty out of tune. But good stuff regardless.
Got to love the out of tune mandolin
Rare performance. Many American Irish think this is a long lost country pub song. Clancy Bros. Nope.
thats not galway girl by ed Sheeran
Would sound even better if it was in tune.
Whaa...Whaa...Whaa...
Sounds close enough to me..
Patrik Sundvik Music shut up
like your mom..
Know how to tell if a Mandolin is a little out of tune.if it has strings on it.
X
Shame about the placement of the mic and camera. Would have loved to learn this from the man himself

Her hair was black and her eyes were blue 😢
breakfast club power 105.1
If he wrote it today her eyes would be black and her hair blue.
Jockellis- he sings it that way sometimes in live performances.
What’s with the hipster skinny jeans steve
Your a fuckwit
New trend.
He can hardly play that thing lol.
I kinda like it that way honestly.
The mandolin has such a great sound😊
