    Got one of these on clearance about a month back and OMG what a wedge. Perfect amount of spin and control when paired with a decent ball. Find I don't need to carry a 60 deg now which frees up a club. Nice grip standard. I got the 56 low 8deg bounce model and find it very forgiving also as it don't dig into turf. Have already holed out twice for 🦅 from 40 and 60 yards hehe. I have officially been converted from prev only playing vokey. Can't wait to get some rust going on the face.

    I’ve always been a fan of the old ATV wedges. They’ve been in my bag for years!! I’ve replaced them with newer ones every year. I’ve not been a fan of the milled grind wedges. Always thought that they were a gimmick. However, I bought a 50, 56 & had a 60 made into a 62. I’ve been using them for a few weeks now and can honestly say that they are the best wedges I’ve ever had. The spin and feel is sublime.

  • @stevegolfman2739

    I've played Vokey wedges for 15 years. Have to replace them every 18 months, max. But when I saw this video, I literally went out that morning and bought two. Played that PM and these are excellent - better than Vokey plus I don't have to contend with the 1,000 combinations of loft, bounce AND grind. I'm a 6 hcp, BTW. Make it simple. WHAT's THE MAGIC FORMULA TO RUST THEM UP FAST?

    Dang I was hoping for your opinions on the short shots with rust vs non-rust. I feel like the full shots don’t matter since you’re compressing and using grooves. Short shots don’t compress and the rust may (or may not) help with getting ball to check up.

    Doesn’t matter what your clubs look like or what they are, as long as you shoot a good score consistently with them and are comfortable, that’s all that really matters.

    Hi Rick, how did you rust up the golf club?

  • @Cornwall1888
    @Cornwall1888 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Rusty wedges don’t spin more, it makes wedges feel softer and reduces glare, rust decreases spin

  • @LordWhirlin

    No idea how I came across your channel... but definitely thinking of picking up some clubs for myself and giving golf a shot again... Last time I picked up clubs was like, 20 years ago while I was still a high schooler for some introductory golfing summer camps.

    The trouble with rust is it rubs off and re rusts eventually no face

    • @tylerg8652
      @tylerg8652 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Does the same logic not apply to wearing grooves that dont rust? With the difference being that when grooves wear nothing replaces them so spin goes down and down till you have to replace anyways? So if the end result is replacing the club in both scenarios i would rather have the one that is keeping spin numbers up throughout its life.

    • @breakinggates
      @breakinggates 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@tylerg8652 it's going to take waaayyyy longer for you to get normal grooves to be smooth over the entire face than this situation. You might never get to that point to be honest

    • @danieljohnson450
      @danieljohnson450 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      How long do you keep your wedges for anyway? If you're playing every week and practicing once a week they won't last more than a year and be effective...

    • @breakinggates
      @breakinggates 5 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      I hear this all the time and I completely disagree. I have had my Vokey SM4 wedges for around 400-500 rounds of golf and I still get ~9k rpm. Maybe I was getting 12-13k spin rate when I first got them, but at this point the spin I generate is almost perfect for amateurs. I have the ability to stop the ball on longer shots and play pitch shots that bite. I will concede that chips and very short pitch shots don't stop as much as they used to, but that isn't something that screams "I need new wedges". New wedges run around $500 for a new set of 3 after shipping, and a fitting will run you an additional $50-100 depending on location. In conclusion most amateurs shouldn't even be conceptualizing on short spinning approach shots because of the difficulty to execute said shots. In the long run it is much more efficient for someone to keep wedges for 2-3 years if not longer so long as their spin rate is where they want it. Invest the ~$500 into a few lessons or a few more rounds with friends rather than new wedges every year that, realistically, don't have a massive impact on your game.

    • @tylerg8652
      @tylerg8652 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@breakinggates I'm not talking about wearing all the way down on the grooves till there's nothing left, as yes i agree you may never get there. I'm just talking about till either club gets to a replacement point, which for typical wedges for me is a drop in spin rate more than 3000 rpm ish. So if the rust can make that a longer time period by keeping my spin numbers up by essentially "consuming" the face and re-rusting then it could be a win.

    btw.... I still have a set of TM wedges from the 90’s at 55 and 61 degrees with the bubble shaft in them and copper/ rusted faces..... they were great then and still perform beautifully when I take them out to,practice with a few times a year......It is an old old principal that still works..... remember the old MacGregor Tourney irons and wedges with the copper and rusted inserts?
