It was thr miners here in the UK. Not everyone that were called up event and fought. Some went down the mines. They were paid more than the men already employed at the mine so the og miners went on strike. Government then made it illegal to strike during any time of war. On a side note, Margaret Thatcher closed the mines because of the miners Union and not because she just hated miners, lol. The union refused to mechanise the mines after ww2 so the price for a ton of coal was high due to manpower costs. When we could buy off foreign countries we obviously did as their price was lower than ours.
Why would changing my job help the Axis mob? How would it hurt the Allies? Maybe the learning curve would affect productivity? I don’t think this was thought through. And that poor dude couldn’t quit singing.
