Love these old soundies so much! I just wish more (any) of them were less staged, more live performance. And who knew that "Oh, Susannah" was THIS flat out racist?!? Hope those guys at least got paid for having to sing that crap. The 1940's was an incredible time for music. Bebop is invented, the first "serious" jazz form, not meant for dancing, though there was still plenty of swing/big band stuff and the birth of "R&B"/jump blues, which would be co-opted as "rock and roll" by the mainstream a few years later, ultimately changing the entire musical landscape. You also had the birth of bluegrass, "honky tonk" and more electrified western swing on that side of the tracks. My favorite musical decade, and I grew up with the Beatles. By the time it was called "rock", all the good stuff was over, the blackness relegated to sub-genres like soul, disco, etc. Can't see things getting better, ever.
Phenomenal! I hope they performed for the white folks too. Back in the day, it was hard for blacks to move into the white entertainment industry as everyone knows. I'm glad they hung in there and became great.
I watched these movies back in the fifties as a young child. I'm surprised the idiots on the left haven't banned them like everything else from that time period with black stars.❤❤❤
Much better than the crap they call music today.
Fats Waller and Cab Calloway’s charisma and showmanship are unmatched.

Pure 1940s CLASS!!!

Thank you for these musical goodies! As far as I think to know there have been produced hundreds of them. Would be nice to see them occasionally.

The song Satchmo played was used in the movie Casablanca.
12:31 Maurice Rocco's Rhumboogie is OG rock and roll no lie
Reminds me of Little Richard
@@jamesanderton344 Rocco rarely used a piano bench
Ahhhh human music.
Enjoy these sounds while you can, one day they will be gone with the wind.
They already are.
The sad thing about old music is that it is finite
if that's TRUE, you wouldn't be here.
who’s the woman who sang on “ain’t misbehavin’”?
Vivian Brown........th-cam.com/video/_5JiD9yxL4U/w-d-xo.htmlsi=6hXPECbnoWZVigRK
Vivian Brown. Her twin sister Hilda "Hibby" Brown is in the video as well. They were dancers at the Cotton Club.
Who is the woman singing with Fats Waller?
I have never heard of Maurice Rocco.
Oh, what a beautiful smile from such a beautiful lady - 7:02

Cab's hair was fried, dyed, and laid to the side.

Apparently you aren't familiar with the Cotton Club or The Savoy. Black bands played to exclusively to white audiences.

Craig, yes and Louis and "Shine" would be called racist and stereotyping by the 'woke mob!
Pale faced Leftist cancel this great entertainment in their effort to consolidate political power through racial tension.
