This song was 1984, America we are the world was a year later, Bob Geldof was responsible for live aid on 1985. The UK was first because Bob Geldof was watching the news and was moved by seeing starving children it motivated him to get in touch with Midge Ure and write the song to raise money and was the first charity single that led to the first concert to raise money and the legacy of this song lives on by new generations of artists trying to raise awareness as kids in Africa are still going Hungry. Paul Young, Boy George, Sting. BONO, Simon le Bon, Tony Hadley from Spandau Ballet, Paul Weller all had lines to sing, Phil Collins on drums, Gary Kemp on guitar, Francis Rossi and Rick Parrfitt Status Quo along with many others to sing main chorus all came in on one Sunday to record this and get it out to the world . People credit Bob Geldof but Midge Ure from Ultravox was the driving force behind the music and writing the lyrics and getting it produced to so thousands of copies could be made and sold and making history. America followed in 1985 after seeing what we had done, we we there first along with Live Aid in which Phil Collins sang and played Wembley Arena first then flew over to Philadelphia again making history. Madonna might have stole the show in America but it was overshadowed by the fabulous and much missed Freddy Mercury with Queen that has been the benchmark of what people remember when talking about this amazing concert. The woman in the photo with the kids was Paula Yates married to Bob Geldof at the time before a decade later where she left him for Michael Hutchence from INXS in which now they have passed away as well as George Michael.
Respect to Bob Geldof..how deep hurts that for him, i asked myself...he makes that all happend, all the big stars, all that money thats comes together...but, still we were unable to help those innocent people and children. Unbelieveable that there are still human beings who die of hunger. Shame on us
