eso having modern day real world politics with the they / them companion was / is a bad idea . I didnt even bother grabbing that companion and a lot of people dont like the idea and some left the game.
Not gonna happen. I specifically complained to Rich about that at the Twitch meet up. His reply was "Companions can't be as good as real players". I'm thinking, dude, 20 years old Guild Wars programmed npcs and mobs to not stand in dots. I guess their feeling may be people may feel less inclined to group if the companions aren't standing in aoe and dots.
Im going to be on the opposite side of the field, I think scribing is a missed opportunity to be able to bring another skill line to classes...they could have added more replayability with it. Could you imagine a DK instead of fire, having a ice or poison skill lines? I mean theres other types of elemantal dragons in elder scrolls lore. I think they missed alot of opportunities like bringing more complexities to classes instead of just adding skills behind a grind and just recolored of other skills. Thats my opinion but hey we are all different
If you going to keep making companions you need to start making them unique. Vampire,Werewolf,Frost Mage,Blood Mage or knight,Dark Mage,Daedric mage or knight i mean come on theirs soo many options
I also want a house that I can build up over time, like you get give a castle in a wrecked state and you have to go on misdions/quests to rebuild it. I woul love if rebuilding it run over multiple expansions. And you got a like Mojodomo giving you quest to fix things up.
Storage has been my biggest issue. So many new things to keep over the years, plus shortening the time for Sales & Mails to 2 weeks from a month. Still the same bank space, bag space, & 8 chests for houses.
YES DUDE. My goodness for real. ESO MUST innovate and stop with the formulaic approach EVERY. SINGLE. YEAR. 5 years in with no innovation for companions. 7 years in with little to no innovation for PvP. The list goes on. I’d rather them slow down on quantity and deliver quality any day.
They just making money with it now. It is a problem for more than 5 years already. But after they make the "big" changes in the 2 years after launch, they stop implementing greater stuff. It is some kind of maintenance mode for years and they won't change that, befor it is way to late and they lose lots of players (and even then, they will most likely just take the remaining money out of it)
I think there are plenty of interesting possibilities for companions that could add skill variety and, more important to me, story variety. They could do WW, vamp, witch/hagraven, blackfeather crows, maomer, various daedra races, lamia, etc. That offers a ton of cool and potentially very unique storylines for characters with such interesting backgrounds.
Legendary companion: Arox the Mutilator! 🐀💪 I know, i know, wishful thinking 😅... BUT imagine him transforming into the daedric titan form as an ultimate skill for 30 seconds, and wreaking havoc on your enemies. Plus later, when you unsummon him, he just hops back to your backpack, as he always did 😍😢
my ideas I had in mind for companions to expand and QoL: - companion equiment management + loadout swaps. Like we have armories let us give companions a backup setup so we can swap a single companion's role on the go without swapping everything one by one. - Companion Duels where they fight like a boss scaling on their level and gaining mechanics based on their leveled skill lines. - ACTUAL legendary companion gear, both because we have had a single legendary ring and its a missed opportunity not to expand and because I am so annoyed that gear stat progression stops at the 400s or 900s instead of nice and round 500s and 1000s plus rounding out trait values. - On top of legendary companion gear maybe earnable signature gear, maybe one per companion where you go through a special job with them to find a heirloom of theirs and that gear is treated as a legendary jewellry (to not limit roles like armor weight or weapon might) that only that companion can equip and gives a small little extra perk to them. Kind of like if each companion had their own mythic. - Dual companion questlines. After completing 2 companion questlines some of them might get a special quest where you have both companions out during the quest and on completion allows you to summon both companions together at the same time anytime. - Just give them an ultimate for each class skill line please...all ultimates are based on dealing damage, Bastian's ult really does nothing for his ability to tank for me and I can't trade it off.
The easiest update they could do is double the transmutes for vet dungeons. Just change the number to 20 and everyone would start rocking vet runs. Maybe fix a few doors while ur there.. but honestly, such a waste. Scribing super cool and thanks for the great vid!
I really enjoy ESO even after several years. I like using the companions and I agree with all your comments about them. Zerith-Var has now become my favorite. I just wish that I could have access to all the companions on any of my alts instead of having to do the quests over and over again. ESO has so much potential, and I'm not pleased or interested in other games at the moment.
Like with all MMOs, ESO is a game I can take in spells. I can play it for a month or two, and then I have to move on to something else. I applaud anyone who can stick with games like this for YEARS at a time, but I just can't do it. 😂😂😂😂
The problem with the game is how stale it is. Especially compared to what its competitors are offering. We need more classes, weapons and just more in general.
Yea they keep reworking the main classes but ignoring all the others like mage guild, fighters guild, undaunted,Psijic Order a gd majority of them feel unnecessary or pointlessly use.
The game needs a lot of things - most of which I guarantee you will not even be remotely touched on in Matt Firor’s letter on 12/17 addressing the community. I’m sure he’ll say this year was a massive success, pat himself on the back and say he’s excited for 2025
I feel like we have enough companions. We have one for every class and even a recycling ones. I’m an alt-aholic so having to do the quest every time on all my characters feels excessive. Also, the leveling, approval system feels like it takes forever, especially since I work two jobs and try to stay fit so I have very little time to play. The closest I have gotten to unlocking an ultimate is Isobel and I think she’s 14 or 15. I feel like the pace made sense when there were only a couple companions, but now that there’s eight, I think it needs a revisit.
I'd be happy if companions could hold companion gear. Also, if you've cleared -of House Ravenwatch, Gwendis and Faenorian should be available as companions. That would be a perfect way to cover a vampire companion. I adore Gwendis. She's got the perfect amount of sass.
Wish they would go for a non class companions, instead of repeating the class, could go all in a vampire companion or a werewolf companion, or with Tanlorin they should have go with all soul magic skills
yeah, I think this is supposed to be the whole point of an RPG... I can of course understand that they have lore restrictions and have to respect the lore from the games taking place in the future but most choices we have to make are either irrelevant and never adressed again, broken by next chapter or extremely frustrating. A lot of 'basic' things that could help rp players are missing like a logical boat map. Wants to go from anvil to Abah's landing a few kilometers away ? take a boat to Vivec City or Mournhold and from there you can have a boat going to Abah like wtf ? I't a detail but I'm one of those weirdos who's really into rp and it breaks everything for me...
I agree it’s not ESO’s biggest problem but it’s absolutely a big one on a list of 10+ lol. Biggest for me will always be a complete lack of reward structure/replayability like you said. Even for a completionist like myself, I find myself asking “what’s the point?” waaaaaayyy too often.
@@Cooperharley0204 I remember for a long time (I don't know where I had that idea from) I thought achievement points were giving you the same value as endevor points. Like a way to get endevor pts besides the daily/weekly tasks. Because you get an average of 440 per week so about 21k a year if you get every single one every single day/week so after a year of tiedious care you could get one mount and I was convinced achievement hunting was another way to get that... Imagine my disappointment when I realised achievements had actually no value for the most part. But it also points what is for me the biggest issue in the game : greedy as f and very predatory store. I'm into 3d myself and when I see a furnishing item (basicaly three cylinders and a reshaped box with basic textures, no animation, no vfx or interaction so something you make in like 30 minutes) for 1500 crowns I'm like : bruh, it's 11 bucks I could get an entire game with that ! Or a mount where they juste changed the colors but it's the same one as a previous one (same mesh, same rig, same animations) and sell that for 20 bucks ?
Companions were literally the most dumb idea ever. I get the point, but the outcome of what they have done to the game overall isn't a good thing. My opinion.
What we need is for them to completely redo their monetization model No amount of content will mean anything long term if they continue with their current monetization model
The first limiting factor with updating existing companions is that they are voiced and have back stories, which means changing race or gender is impractical. Additionally, some have styles that can't be changed, such as Tanlorin's Psijic tattoos. However, since we can apply costumes to them, it should be possible to apply personalities and/or polymorphs to them. Personally, I think it would be hilarious to see Bastian running around with the "Drunk" personality, or Azandar with "Jester", or Sharp-as-Night with "Treasure Hunter" (holding torch), or Ember with "Assassin" (twirling dagger), or Izzy with "Heroic" (Barbaric yawp), or Tanlorin with "Duchess" (preening). And then there's the polymorphs. Make Bastian a Scarecrow Spectre, Mirri a Factotum, and Zerith-var a Werewolf Lord and you'd have the supporting cast from the Wizard of Oz. I digress... As far as making companions' combat more customizable, sure, adding a fourth scribing tree to them would be a big step up. Beyond that, the only way I could see them changing the existing setup is to allow each of the existing skill trees to allow for morphing skills the same way that players can. Morphing would at least allow for fine tuning them into more specific support roles; which makes sense. When it comes to assigning classes to new companions, who says they have to stick to the existing player classes? How about a Bard companion (musical buffs and debuffs)? ..or an Alchemist (throwing alchemical poisons and potions that create beneficial/detrimental circles on the ground)? ..or a Druid (that spawns spriggans, stranglers, etc.)? Companions don't "have" to mirror players, but introducing these roles for companions could make players angry that those options aren't available to them as well. For companions gear, I agree. The RNG system is impractical and frustrating. I get that the developers don't want all players to make god-tier companions, but under the existing system, only the rich players can properly gear up their companions; so how fair is that? One way to get proper gear is to at least offer transmutation. For example, if you get an epic (purple) ring, you should be able to change the trait on it. Another option is to award "bound" gear appropriate to the companions' active roles as they level up (e.g., Levels 1-7 = Fine / 8-14 = Superior / 15-20 = Epic). On a side note, I think it would be cool to give assistants added functionality. You can call out assistants in dungeons, so why not make them work while they are there. Have Nuzhimeh the Merchant auto-loot the corpses into gold, or have Tzozabrar, Dwarven Deconstructor break down non-dungeon drops on the fly, or Ezabi the Banker place all your loot in a special loot tab of the bank that only holds it's contents for 6 hours. There are lots of ways Companions and Assistants can be made better. The real issue is whether or not the developers are willing to listen to the players and act on some of those ideas.
How about a companion scribe: literally use some of the scribable abilities they just introduced to make some scribe only skill lines for that companion. Vampire and werewolf as you said, maybe a few monstrous races: a goblin or rieker companion, a falmer or how about a pirate/bandit? With their own classes not similar to the player classes (visually) could be really cool. There are tons of options that can be done without copying old skills. Great vid as always dude ^^ p.s. and please give us an option to make the companions NEVER mention potions again, that would be great ;)
Companion inventory would be fantastic. Mine is becoming crowded. I feel like there must be some plan for introducing gold companion gear. An option for crafting and improving companion gear seems natural. I don’t want this to come at the expense of other systems though. Cyrodiil is begging for an update. I sometimes think turning it over to a third party company for a reskin and possibly shrinking the size would go a long way with players. Maybe battlegrounds need the hybrid treatment. Merge the old and the new. I really liked some of the old levels. I enjoyed Gold Road, but I hope this year’s chapter has a bigger zone with more to do. I know they had a lot on their plate last year with the introduction of scribing but that’s out of the way. I’ve been happy with the game but I feel like they need a big hit this year. I’m hoping they knock it out of the park.
After playing the new battlegrounds I don't want to see there "improvements" to ic or cyrodil. I don't know how it could be worse but zos will find a way
I would really love to just add more quests and customization to the companions we have. To be able to get more story from each character would be awesome.
Each Zone should have an Ally available after you complete the story quest, that you can return to and get materials or services from. Every DLC zone should have a companion, or something that supports companions like a training stronghold. Put them to work!
Another great video. Really like your ideas for future companions, a fully customized companion would be epic! Also a vamp or WW could be so cool. Passing this on to my guildies. :)
ESO main problem is that it is too boring to play ( I would suggest move away from "homogenization" (aka hybridization) as that has evidently been a mistake. There is practically no difference between how different classes are played (let alone different builds). There must be magic DD, melee stamina DD and ranged/backstabbing stamina DD. Next, there is a problem of healers being useless. ESO went a little bit too much into having attacks that can be dodged and are one-shot if they are not. Also the fact that healer needs the same stats and buffs as DD does not help the issue. ESO have almost a thousand of sets but you need just a handful of them. This is another problem of the game by the way: having 98% of sets being completely unnecessary.
People saying ESO doesn't innovate are crazy, this game has infinite content and its all fun. Specifically, i finally got my favorite companion to level 20, conquered scribing, and it was time to move onto mythics. Antiquities blew me away with how fun and immersive it was. Everywhere I turn, this game has something fun to do. Golden Pursuits finally got me to try battlegrounds and I LOVE IT. I've never been more hype for this game than 2024. Even my previous complaint about new sets being boring has been walked back.
I will add my vote for customizable companions. Standing around the way shrine with four other exact copies of your companion makes them seem robotic. I fully agree with the werewolf companion. Maybe a hist-water magic Argonian., a sword master Redguard, a shamanic Orc, an illusion magic Nord, a full psijic High Elf, a Vinedusk Ranger. I see no reason that they should have to fill all three roles. Let the companions specialize. Please give them a compelling back story like Zerith Var. The character creator is already there let us use it on our companions. Let us break down the companion gear into a transmute gem that we can use to customize our friends. Maybe Zar wants to be a black panther, maybe Tanlorin wants a silver flat-top, maybe you need soothing on the staff. Control the quantity by making the companion gear give a shard of the companion transmute gem, and when you get X shards, that equals one gem. The devs could add one new companion and some kind of modifier each year. Of course, they could monetize the customizations by adding items like Zar's Moon sword to the crown store.
The Overland in the past was much harder, but then they gave the game a major overhaul and "Optimized" it. It made it stupid easy while making World Bosses and Dungeons harder. The companions are cool but in reality are useless. You can solo this game now without companions. Should have brought them in before the optimizing, would have made more sense to me.
Never going to happen. They don't seem to want sharding even more population, and considered how many people want to get easily from A to B on map, you would encounter pretty much same small amount of people over and over again who would sit on such version of map. So you know .. old MMO self-fullfilling prophecy of "Lol dead game" would be in full swing as result. In MMO design you were supposed to see very specific amount of people playing with you, all the time. Not too much and not too little. Sharding for hardcore maps vs normal would ruin that.
Seeing people mentioning new classes but i thi k that then causes issues around levelling since you would need multiple new characters for new classes. Personally I think new Guilds could be interesting for skill lines. They put the Psijic order in but havent gone for other well known, or even lesser know groups that could give more variety of play. Since they didnt give Dark brotherhood active skills they could rectify that with another "assassin" like group like the Morag Tong. Or they could give more varied magic skills through the Telvanni or Winterhold College. Or even giving a Companion (the one with Ysgramor, not the AI ones) a guild skill line if we ever get them introduced in game.
If there is a "Big Companion Overhaul Update" in the future, I hope they add more dialogue. I frequently wish that I could ask my companion what they think/feel about the area we're currently in, or discuss what just happened in a quest we're doing together.
So I'm going to go over two things: a disagreement I have with something you said, and the new features that have come out in ESO over the last few years and why they aren't actually helping the game be better. First the disagreement. I do not agree that scribing needed to be underpowered as to not be meta-shifting. Should it be so strong that everyone exclusively uses those skills? No. I'll go over why in my new features segment. 1. Companions. An anticipated feature of eso that was implemented in a way that allows you to play the game more solo. Great! But you don't have good customization options for your companions, and overall, they don't do much. It's a vanity feature, which I appreciate, but is not something that helps in any meaningful way in any content. In fact, in some content (Archive), they just make your life more difficult. 2. Arcanist. Don't get me wrong, I love Arcanist. But it's a bandaid feature. People wanted a new class, but what players wanted most was updates to old content, especially the gearing systems. Arcanist was fun on launch and took attention off of actual problems for a minute, but now it's just another class. It's time to ZoS to focus on the problems the game actually has. 3. Scribing. Another bandaid feature, but not as good as Arcanist. Why? Well it stems from my disagreement above. It's a long questline to get skills that you're not going to use unless you're playing solo. For a solo player, this is good... But there are better solo options in most applications from class skills, guild skills, and weapon skills, that the only skill from Scribing that's any good is banner. Sure, it gives ZoS the ability to go back in and make new skills, which I appreciate. It's setting ground work for something good later, even if what they made already is so bad that no one uses the skills... But I think their track record for this kind of thing isn't very good. Releasing a companion or two each update, a new deck for tales, more armor sets no one is going to use, all stuff that fluffs the game without giving stuff people actually want to see, I can only imagine the majority of stuff they're release for scribing is going to be useless without them overhauling the game in some meaningful way. 4. Tales of Tribute. A fluff feature. It's fine. But they released this without fixing issues. Making the game better should have been the priority over a card game that no one asked for. I don't want to seem like I'm saying "don't make cool stuff because you gotta do other stuff first" no make cool stuff. I'm sure the team that worked on it had no input in what needs to be fixed in the game, so this took away no manpower from the changes the game needs, but they haven't done anything yet. So I tend to doubt that, too. 5. Archive. An actually good change, I just wish it was more varied, more maps that aren't tied to hermeas mora's theme would be cool. 6. Class Sets. What should have been cool and somewhat powerful turned out to be underwhelming, weak, and just another set that doesn't matter to anyone, for every class. This should have been really interesting, but these sets just compound the problem with sets in general. We use 10 sets. There are over 400 sets now i believe? That isn't acceptable with this kind of game design. I didn't go much in depth with each topic, but that is my opinion on each on, in a nut shell. In the end, each thing I went over isn't a core feature of the game. They've released a bunch of smoke and mirrors that, although nice to have, doesn't actually make the game better overall. It gives you more tasks to do, it increases your playtime, but it doesn't enhance your experience with the game in any meaningful way... Other than maybe the archive, kinda. These are all things that would be great in a game that is doing well. But the game isn't doing well. So these things feel like the devs procrastinating and ignoring the real issues.
Yes I agree, especially on the point about gear sets. 95% of them are dogwater and nobody uses. They’re pretty much need a severe rework or buff. Maybe a way to augment stat lines in gear or add something. It would make some of the old sets interesting if you could add minor slayer or swap a line of mag for weapon/spell power etc.
I agree with most of your points. What I want most though is for my companions to stop pulling bosses off their damn spawn points so they reset seconds before they die.
The issues is the rewards for end game pve and pvp don't exist. No ranked arena pvp. All the beat mountain and skin rewards are given out in RNG chest. No reason to play or grind when you buy the coolest shit and get bored .
I'd love to get transmogs for summonable pets. For example: new types of undead for necromancers to summon (draugr, flesh atronauchs, etc), deadra reskins for sorcerers (e.g. deadlands imp, clockwork winged twilight), and new breeds of beasts for wardens (e.g. summon a polar bear instead of a basic brown bear).
Honestly I don't mind recycling old classes + new skill lines in theory, not like we can have Bastian and Tanlorin at the same time, but they need to put in the effect to synergize the aesthetic of said class with the new skill line at the bare minimum. But yeah the system itself is very much in need of love, especially the gear/inventory side of things.
I love companions. I want a peasant farmer companion who runs around with a shovel as a weapon, make him pretty weak however his ultimate I'm a werewolf form that goes full berserk!
We need one companion for each race. An evil companion would suit evil characters we run. Werewolf and vampire would be nice. How about non-playable race companions? Maomer for example.
Tanlorin really shouldnt exist... but if she has to it makes no sense why thry decided to combine DK with soul magic. They could have released 2 necromancer companions at once which both focus on different aspects of the magic system
Hyacinth is the follower we should have recieved... A tinkerer/alchemist, come on ! I'll take that guy any day instead of whatever Tanlorin is supposed to be
The game is super easy we need some way to adjust the difficulty to our likeness I love this game honestly however I always leave because the challenge for basic game content is never there like it is in previous elder scrolls titles
Given ESO’s latest comment about their annual what have you, I feel strongly they will stop investing in this game. December rewards are horrible as well.
since we can only ever use one companion, let us send the others on missions, like giving them a treasure map/ ressource survey (maybe limited to the fact that u have to dig it up at least once yourself) and have them return after 20mins with the loot. they might even have some bonus tweaks like Miri giving u extra loot from the treasure chests or sth.
Certain classes used to have issues soloing Overland, hence the optimizing.
A persistent issue seems to be calculation bottlenecks... the more going on locally (be it graphical effects, animations, skill/set triggers, effects, durations, etc.), the greater the calculation load seems to correspond with proportional increases in glitches, rubberbanding, bluescreens, unresponsive or delayed ui, and/or delayed visual/audio cues. This makes it frustrating to play when such things happen frequently. Continually adding all these new things may be nice pr, but only seems to further compound performance issues that have contributed to long-term eso players migrating to other games. Without solving basic performance issues, the addition of superficial "aftermarket accessories" without a major overhaul of the core architecture is like upgrading a cobbled-together mess of a vehicle with the appearance of a supercar
In my opinion the main problem with eso is the microtransactions, for a newer player it sucks, you get pay wall after pay wall after pay wall. Eso just suffers from content bloat which is good but overwhelms the newer player especially when a majority of that bloat is behind paywalls, which is either add another subscription every month just to enjoy the game after paying 20 bucks for it or buy over 500$ worth of dlcs and still not be able to easily access one of the basegame features being crafting. I think the game could majorly benefit by making most of the features like antiqueties and scribing basegame instead of locking it to a new expansion companions can stay in their area but it should be adding a new conpanion to a past dlc or basegame area for free with that dlc or basegame, for example they could make a character that is entirely psjic order based and is in the summerset dlc and then they can add a new conpanion in the new dlc aswell. Another thing is making the new dungeons basegame or come with the last or next dlc, like the scions of ithela would come with necrom or if you purchased gold road you get next years first dlcs, and the q4 dlc areas should be combined into the zone dlc basically making all the microtransactions into a small package each year which would help newer players get into the game and players in general who have a low amount of expendable income and cant buy a 5 dlcs every year
That's just my thought process anyway sorry if it's unrelated but if they did this the game would be a thousand times more accessible than what it is. But I agree, like I said a psjic order based companion in Summerset or a orc ice born in wrothgar or a clockwork apostle or robot in clockwork city with the appropriate abilities.
Eso was built this way for a reason. Free players have to pay more for the content then people who are subscribed. Hear me out. I pay $150 a year to have the full 100% access to the game. I pay for a yearly sub. There's benefits to subscribing other then the full access, such as +10% more xp, 480 slot bank with separate crafting slots for all materials, discount prices for items in the store and also monthly crowns as a bonus for being a monthly subscriber. Being a free player, if you had to buy all the Dlc's and expansions to play, subscribers could take that same amount and have full access for 5 or 6 years while still getting the dlc's for free. (Every once in awhile they will give a player a dlc for free as a daily reward so if u end up "Free" you can still access it without every paying a dime for it) I realize that maybe funds aren't easy to come by for whatever reason. But $150 a year versus the astronomical amount for each dlc/expansion plus crowns. This really is a no brainer (no offense). Find a way and enjoy the fun=0)
I seriously find the game very repetitive. The holiday events have been the same for the past 7 years. Need something new? Something fun. And it sucks to make a new toon, because nothing like doing repeat quests with you know five or six characters. No fun. For me I would love better storage for housing items. There's so many to pick from you. Think you want something now? You have no place to keep it cuz your bank's full. Your house is full. Your chests are full. It's b******* One thing about EverQuest 2. You had storage in your door. You could store so many housing items.
In the past we had 2 dlc dungeon+ new chapter with big zone + 2 dlc dungeon+ new small zone. Last year we have 2 dungeon+ new chapter with big zone and new class + infinity archive. This year we got only 2 dungeon+ new average zone (west weald really not big) and 2 companions for crown. Totally this year very poor...
And all behind $100 over the course of a year, most of which you have to spend above and beyond the actual expansion Sorry, but more content means nothing if they continue to monetize like that
We need more classes and races and weapon types. They could go pet companion routes like a magical wolf. Plenty of assets already in the game that they don’t use
if the 2025 update is Whiterun (central Skyrim) and we can enchant companion gear using special furnishing inside the companion hall in Whiterun after some quest that would be awesome.
As.a returning ESO player that use to run end game trials I decided to come back to do more casual gaming. I took maybe 4 years off and the game is so different. I like the Companions for solo play. Having a Tank at my disposal is great. I would love for their gear to be elaborated on, the transmute and improvement would be huge. Scribing is a great addition. I main a Nightblade and am currently trying to get all NB builds (Melee & Rage DPS, Healer and Take) into one character, so i'll unlock more armory slots with ESO plus crowns over time. But I would love to have some more AoE skills on my NB. I know the class has always been a single target class, but not knowing that when I first started I would be nice to be able to expand on their kit. This is an area where scribbing would be perfect for. I'm not a fan of the Hybrid changes and meta. Everyone is running the same thing on Mag or Stam and whatever class they want. The class identity has been lost to an extend. I wish they would go back the true Mag & Stam builds where certain classes utilized sets differently. Dual Wield and 2H on a Magicka based character seems so wrong. I love off meta builds and playing around with weird set-ups. I was playing with Bow/Bow NB builds before the Psijic skill line expansion came out. Our trials guild gave me a hard time about out. So I took it in our VAS+2 run, I didn't tell the raid group at the time I was taking it in, but commented after the run. All the people that didn't believe me it was viable were in shock. The next patch released the Psijic skill line and introduced Tzogvins. All of a sudden I had guild members asking me to help them with a BowBlade. That was fun and peak ESO for me. I miss theory crafting like that. Keep up the great work! When I came back you were one of the first CC's I looked up for current info.
As usual very well done. As per the biggest problem companions are not (to me) anywhere near the top of the things to fix list. PVP, housing, and a new weapon/s skill lines are much more important by far. Cryo and IC are dated and mostly dead/forgotten except during PVP events. The BG revamp works well during the event, but the 8v8 non event is a mess. You queue wait 5-10 min, then port in and wait 3-6 min more then if it doesn't fill your kicked. A major reason why ESO population is not what it used to be is due to the forgotten pvp. With housing we need to be able to add more furnishings. Talk about dated, when was the last time a weapon skill line was added? If you want to spark up companions (ask me) let them into the BGs to fill a slot (as a last resort) and being able to decon companion gear/create gear would be the way to go. Thx again for the post
As a returning player I was super surprised that companion gear wasn't connected to the crafting system in any way. Definitely was a feelsbadman moment.
i really like scribing, but was surprised that it is locked to weapons, armor, guild and the like. mostly weapons cause I tend to stick with destruction staff so many scribing lines are not available. thoughts?
I was so exited by scribing and already was imagining doing a full set of soul magic spells... but no... you can have only one of each type and they're not taken into account by the armory station from what I've seen... so in the end, I have only one scribed ability...
It’s honestly got great potential especially for the skill lines with no active abilities like TG & DB. I’d love to see those lines and vampire/werewolf made to be interesting
A missed opportunity that ESO needs to take advantage of now that there's 8 Companions now and I want to group them like have 3 Companions to Dungeons and 6 Companions for Trials but Actual Player Groups remains recommended for Veteran or Higher Difficulty. Plus with Companion Groups can have Synergy Passive Bonuses if the 2 Companions get along but a Passive Penalty if the 2 Companions Dislike each other.
Perhaps they could use companions to introduce a new class or two. Exactly what or how that would work out lore wise I don't know. It's something the developers would have to figure out. Just a suggestion.
I wish we could do more RP with them, even in Skyrim they would wander off at a Tavern. Or if you could do emotes with them. If you could talk to them for different dialogues at different places. And weshould really be able to craft or upgrade companion equipment. Rant over.
The level scaling of One Tamriel did so much harm to this game. I love TES (I named my daughter Azura because I wanted to honor the series that kept me alive during my struggle with PTSD from Iraq). During alpha and beta questing had difficulty. I remember groups getting wiped from quest bosses. Official launch saw a decrease in difficulty but still had some challenge to it. When level scaling released questing became mindless grindfest. I completely gave up on the game last year after I lost interest in grinding dungeons and trials.
I play for the lore as a tes fan I really hope they get back more into deeper aspects of the lore. Really over trying to be a sweat lord I just want to be immersed in Tamriel until tes 6 arrives.
They probably will never add it but id like to see more use of the companions. Maybe an companion arena like shadow of war had with the orcs. We can customize them, why not make it exciting. Also if possible let me take a companion group into simple dungeons
I’ve not played for a while but was wondering if they updated the homes limit on companions? When I left the scribe system was done and my Daggerfall Keep was at its max for them.
I would really like a vamp companion that I have to make sure gets fed so it doesn’t attack me. ZerithVar has the perfect voice for a vamp. I think companions need a bit of an edge so they’re not so blah. Also, they need to stop standing in stupid. 😑
Wow the new class skill visuals are nice at least. I always loved the plant and animal side of warden but had zero interest in the ice part of it. Now I’m not as skill limited if I can turn the ice into something else.
And in my opinion they should give the companion thier own item box or just let the gear lay in your craft bag cuz technically you crafting thier gear also they should let us improve thier gear at a forge or something because it's already hard to get purple gear
companion inventory is fine, u just equip 3 companion with role gear and call one when u need healer, tank ,or dd. If u had to reequip companion with stored gear it actually would waste your time. But upgrading equipement is great idea. u could obtain upgrade materials from deconstructing equipement and combaining low lvl mat to make higher lvl. f,e, 10 green would give 1 blue, 50 blue would give 1 purple and 200 or more purple would give 1 gold. And upgrade depending on crafting skills should require 8-20 gold mats.this way making god like companion would take lot gold and time ;-p. Also companions should be able use all player cosmetics, polimorphs including equiping helm. This way ZOS could make some coins selling more of these, ppl playing game for 10 years already have more polymorphs than characters ;-p
My only gripe with companions is their gear. You can't craft it, you can't upgrade or transmute it, there's no reliable way of obtaining it in-game (there are no companion gear vendors, nor are there any fixed drops. It's all pure flippin' RNG), and to top it all off it's a _massive_ inventory hog because companions can't even carry their own gear. It took me real-life YEARS to get a single companion into full set of heavy armor that's at least blue-quality or better. The entire affair was such a slog, I've decided to not bother with kitting out any of my other companions.
The only real problem for me is the cost, i cant affort to pay playsation plus to play, and pay for the game monthly (its not really playable for free tbh) and then have to pau for every expansion as it comes out on top of it it all, or miss out on the excitment. Honesly, any two of these maybe I could handle, but i cant justify all three personally.
As a new player, there’s still so much to do. But if I was like 5-10 years in, I could see why people would have so many problems with the current state. Kinda feels like a sinking ship at this point which is sad because I really do love it.
Love ESO, but we haven't seen any innovation in a while. It's not just companions, it's everywhere we look. We see the same repetitive content, delves, public dungeons quests, the same formula every year. Crafting has mostly been the same since launch. Same with pvp. So many new things that could be added like boats (with companion crews) and random island generation exploration, crafting profession specialization, zones with upgradable cities or outposts with npcs invasions, etc. Instead we get the same stuff and it's getting stale.
Zos could fix the game by doing one thing. This one thing would make 100's of hours of more content by people like you possible and make the game more difficult and more fun, make skills and sets feel more unique and make new enemies actually different. This one thing is to GIVE ENEMIES BACK THEIR STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESSES, GIVE THEM BACK THEIR RESISTENCES. That's all, that's it. That is all it would take. For example make flame atronachs actually immune to fire, make skeletons immune to bleed and poison but weak to physical. There is so, so , SO much depth to be added. The removal of this in my opinion was the actual start of the death of this game. EVERY mob in the game is identical except their attacks. Pointless. The devs/ management tried to make a game for all and ended with a game that cannot continue further. It is doomed unless something changes.
The real problem is they add amazing things that seem half baked whether it’s the companions or the scribing or the skill colors. It’s like extremely minimal. They should have rolled out tons of skills tons of colors they should have made the companions like the pets. So we could have companions builds. Nothing is ever fully finished it fills like. Saying they can add to it makes it feel stupid. Like I don’t want to wait 3 years for skill colors or scribing skills.
Delete 90% of the sets. Replace them with class sets periodicly. Sets that modify class abilities in new and interesting ways(similarlyto the IA sets). Half damage midgation for any abilities or passive not explicitly associated with s/b or heavy armour. Change quest rewards to mats, useful stuff, home decor, ploymorphs, cosmetics. There you go. Thats how you fix a large portion of the game. Imagine if you could get a set for you dragonknight that makes your abilities turn in ice abilities woth new astetics and effects. Or a set for the sorc that lets you swap your pet to a different dremora like a flesh atronach. Or how about foe the necro that expandes on the undead premise, like something that lets you maintain you bone Goliath foam and summon multiple blast bones that dance around you, in exchange for rebalacing the damge out put of each blast bones. How about swapping the shitting werewolf form for the warewolf behemoth? Or being able to farm a set that let you do that. All of the assest they need to fix this game already exist. They just slick coding and guadiance on how to implement and execute. I know for a fact the game would make solid comeback if they implemented changes like i suggested above. Then farming gear and classes wouldn't seem so arbitrary like they do. I mean balorghs, mech acuity, rally is all you need in pvp on almost any class for the best damage output in PVP. Its sad. It doesn't make any sense that with all the sets in the game there is no diversity when it comes to the meta.
what's killed eso for me is the way scribing and leads work for mythics. i have to lose my mind for hours, days, weeks, sometimes months to acquire the mythic dlc items i paid for. regarding companions, i want to build an army. i want to do solo trials with 11 companions and vet dungeons with 3 companions. hell, why not let me switch to them mid battle temporarily? like control them? let''s make it a real team based rpg.
First off new companion being free to only ESO plus or crown purchase was messed up if you bought the gold road DLC since those were supposed to come with that DLC should've been free for those who bought the DLC. 2nd games way too grindy for almost all reward type event, that needs to be addressed with more creative writing instead. 3rd PvP is being destroyed by Ball Groups, easy fix on that one adjust CC immunity timer or remove adjust those CP skills related to CC immunity. That should fix the whole game.
I only really have 2 outstanding issues with ESO - monetization, and item storage. The first one is pretty obvious. They put way too much behind a cash paywall, and left too little to actually earn in-game. There is no real incentive to stay in the game long-term, and nothing real to work towards, besides checkmarks. And that's a huge shame. The second is a more difficult issue, because you cant just solve it by increasing a number. 75% of my main character's inventory is item sets for the different gameplay scenarios, and that's unacceptable. I already know people will come out and say hurr durr just wear meta, but that's not how end-game works in this game. And that doesn't take into account all the other random trash, that accumulates in your inventory over time. Guildwars has solved this issue brilliantly. For random high-end materials, you have unlockable gizmos to convert them into useful things, and for gear, you have a huge commitment in form of legendary gear, which can be swapped to any item stat at will
From the title of this video, I did not expect the entire thing to be about companions. Yes the system for companions is a little stale, but I wouldn’t even put it in the top three reasons why ESO is failing.

eso having modern day real world politics with the they / them companion was / is a bad idea . I didnt even bother grabbing that companion and a lot of people dont like the idea and some left the game.
Wish they would update old sets to make them all usable and do something
I'm not a fan of a 2nd Khajiit before the other races were done
I feel tanlorin could have had guild skill lines like mage fighter or undaunted
My favorite companions is sharp as night . Ember and Zerith var
The first step for companions is to fix the problem with them standing in the fire dying.
Yea their AI is rough lol
Not gonna happen. I specifically complained to Rich about that at the Twitch meet up. His reply was "Companions can't be as good as real players". I'm thinking, dude, 20 years old Guild Wars programmed npcs and mobs to not stand in dots. I guess their feeling may be people may feel less inclined to group if the companions aren't standing in aoe and dots.
@@PerspicaciousOne I miss the old Guild Wars companions, it we be cool to even see party set ups for having multiple companions like GW as well.
In wow pets take 90 % reduced damage from aoe it's a simple solution but sadly the game devs prefer not to listen to reason.
Yeah definitely need this as companions are useless for more difficult content because they just stand in Aoe
This is a great idea
This is a great idea
YES! this would be a fun idea!!
Ohhhhh great idea! I would really love that!!!
Nice idea. I don't know how they'd turn a blackfeather court member into a combat companion but it could certainly be fun.
Legendary companion: Arox the Mutilator! 🐀💪
I know, i know, wishful thinking 😅...
BUT imagine him transforming into the daedric titan form as an ultimate skill for 30 seconds, and wreaking havoc on your enemies. Plus later, when you unsummon him, he just hops back to your backpack, as he always did 😍😢
YES! I was begging to have him as a companion. Even if all he does most of the time is bite their ankles, haha.
Even if he didn't transform into Titan I want Arox as companion. Even if he would just jump at enemies biting them lol.
Two things I’d like with companions: Fix their AI so they GET OUT OF STUPID! And have them take my synergies.
And have the ability to bash, etc when I am crowd controlled (Wayrest 2)
my ideas I had in mind for companions to expand and QoL:
- companion equiment management + loadout swaps.
Preach it.
Same. Thank God you don't have to re-level them too, at least.
Weapons sure. I’d love to have a one handed sword and magic build.
it needs more of the basic yea it needs a graphical refresh also
The game needs a lot of things - most of which I guarantee you will not even be remotely touched on in Matt Firor’s letter on 12/17 addressing the community. I’m sure he’ll say this year was a massive success, pat himself on the back and say he’s excited for 2025
@@Cooperharley0204 ^100% true lol
All video is about companions? Nah that's not the biggest issue. We need replayability. That's the problem with all horizontal progression MMos.
yeah, I think this is supposed to be the whole point of an RPG...
My opinion.
What we need is for them to completely redo their monetization model
No amount of content will mean anything long term if they continue with their current monetization model
Great vid as always dude ^^
p.s. and please give us an option to make the companions NEVER mention potions again, that would be great ;)
Companion inventory would be fantastic.
I don't know how it could be worse but zos will find a way
9:57 Yes, I really do hope we get a vampire and/or werewolf companion in the near future instead of more companions with recycled skills.
ESO main problem is that it is too boring to play (
I would suggest move away from "homogenization" (aka hybridization) as that has evidently been a mistake.
Thank you for your great review.
I love this game and have over 3000 hours thanks to you.
In desperate need of overland hard mode.
Join the line of every other major mmo out there
The Overland in the past was much harder, but then they gave the game a major overhaul and "Optimized" it.
They don’t need to release 2 companion a year 1 would be fine, vampire companion would be fun
I like the companions, but one new one a year is plenty. They take soooo long to level up, i don't wznt another grind.
A guild specific apprentice would be awesome! It would be cool if they hand a randomized appearance so everyone got different looking apprentices.
Hell yeah i want cadwell as my companion
I agree with most of your points.
What I want most though is for my companions to stop pulling bosses off their damn spawn points so they reset seconds before they die.
The issues is the rewards for end game pve and pvp don't exist. No ranked arena pvp. All the beat mountain and skin rewards are given out in RNG chest. No reason to play or grind when you buy the coolest shit and get bored .
The biggest problem has existed since day 1 which is the weightless melee combat that feels like you’re just stabbing the air
Meh, the combat is my favorite aspect of ESO.
Maybe they should enhance the sounds of basic attacks
@@janetsminten8196 the skills are decent looking but the standard melee attacks have to be an industry worse and even bad for elder scrolls lol
@@moldykyle5815 definitely something to make them feel more visceral
One of many reasons she shouldn't exist in eso
Hyacinth is the follower we should have recieved... A tinkerer/alchemist, come on ! I'll take that guy any day instead of whatever Tanlorin is supposed to be
@@satanikatze almost everyone would
The game is super easy we need some way to adjust the difficulty to our likeness I love this game honestly however I always leave because the challenge for basic game content is never there like it is in previous elder scrolls titles
Given ESO’s latest comment about their annual what have you, I feel strongly they will stop investing in this game.
December rewards are horrible as well.
Would you throw in the towel or go for another two billion dollars? I'm pretty sure they're not done with the game.
since we can only ever use one companion, let us send the others on missions, like giving them a treasure map/ ressource survey (maybe limited to the fact that u have to dig it up at least once yourself) and have them return after 20mins with the loot. they might even have some bonus tweaks like Miri giving u extra loot from the treasure chests or sth.
I end up unsummoning companions because they have no respect for the personal space bubble 😱
Lack of overland difficulty options is my biggest issue!!
I want my companion running all legendary we should be able to craft all that stuff priceses r stupid 4 good companion gear
It's b*******
One thing about EverQuest 2. You had storage in your door. You could store so many housing items.
What about a Dwemer mechanical companion?
I always miss in RPG some event that often appear in fantasy manga, a stampede, event where hordes of monster rush out from overflowing dungeon.
Engaging combat in Overland is the biggest missed opportunity. Luckily developers stated they’re looking into it
In the past we had 2 dlc dungeon+ new chapter with big zone + 2 dlc dungeon+ new small zone.
Last year we have 2 dungeon+ new chapter with big zone and new class + infinity archive.
This year we got only 2 dungeon+ new average zone (west weald really not big) and 2 companions for crown.
Totally this year very poor...
And all behind $100 over the course of a year, most of which you have to spend above and beyond the actual expansion
Sorry, but more content means nothing if they continue to monetize like that
@dragonriderabens9761 no new content, nobody play. Many people boring too fast this year.
2 new dungeons and a trial that all have next to no mechanics
@@zekuia in the past they done more dungeons and bigger zones. Simple facts.
I agree there is plenty of growth potential for companions. I would like to see some that work with the guild and curse builds too.
Bowblade has always been a thing, maybe not in pve but since morrowind dlc bowblade has existed
@ yes in PvP. Summer set was the release I was mentioning, which was right after Morrowind.
My favorite MPC is Verandis Raven watch I think it would be cool if he was a companion and he is a vampire
Companions having thie own inventory sems like the place to start
They need to either add a research function for companion gear traits/crafting, allow it to be stacked in bank or let companions use set gear
I very much enjoy the companions in ESO and I'm completely in agreement with you. I think you identified everything from my perspective.
As a returning player I was super surprised that companion gear wasn't connected to the crafting system in any way. Definitely was a feelsbadman moment.
i really like scribing, but was surprised that it is locked to weapons, armor, guild and the like. mostly weapons cause I tend to stick with destruction staff so many scribing lines are not available. thoughts?
@@mikeCavalle my guess is they will introduce class scribing skills in the next 1-2 years
I was so exited by scribing and already was imagining doing a full set of soul magic spells... but no... you can have only one of each type and they're not taken into account by the armory station from what I've seen... so in the end, I have only one scribed ability...
They need to retrain the entire community team.
I wish we could do more RP with them, even in Skyrim they would wander off at a Tavern. Or if you could do emotes with them. If you could talk to them for different dialogues at different places. And weshould really be able to craft or upgrade companion equipment. Rant over.
A werewolf or a vampire could have been really good! I hope that may be next dlc.
Yea just grabbed Gold Road for the BFS for 20 bucks. Getting back into it so far. Let's se le if I can make my almost 5k hr run longer 😆
Still love the game. Still have issues with lag and disconnects in cyro
I'd like to have a WB for companion ..
I’ve not played for a while but was wondering if they updated the homes limit on companions? When I left the scribe system was done and my Daggerfall Keep was at its max for them.
The ability to craft and upgrade companion gear would be great. Also head pieces why would that not be a thing.
Absolutely agree with the companion gear. Ive been saying this forever🤦♂️
Tanlorin just doesn't strike me as a dragonknight.
For random high-end materials, you have unlockable gizmos to convert them into useful things, and for gear, you have a huge commitment in form of legendary gear, which can be swapped to any item stat at will
I think they should use the companions instead of the 3 heros in cinematics. Or both
From the title of this video, I did not expect the entire thing to be about companions. Yes the system for companions is a little stale, but I wouldn’t even put it in the top three reasons why ESO is failing.
