    Are they like a huge Raid Array 🤔
    RAID (redundant array of independent disks) is a way of storing the same data in different places on multiple hard disks or solid-state drives (SSDs) to protect data in the case of a drive failure. There are different RAID levels, however, and not all have the goal of providing redundancy.

    Amazing how secure these datacentres are, yes they have backup electricity, however their weakness is the fibre optic where it needs to go into the network via the ducts you were walking over. if the fibre goes down it won't matter what backups they have as data will not flow in or out. they do sometimes have redundant routes but still vunerable as they need to be fed from the public infrastructure. datastorage for video, images, streaming and data is massive however AI will be the largest demand soon!

    Data Center Map has a large cluster of 23 data centers in the Slough area, most near the Trading Estate, and notes 14 Liverpool as Virtus London 3 & 4 (7.3 MW and 24 MW respectively). Brochures with specs readily available on line. Possible Advanced Business Software manages and operates the data centre for Virtus. CyrusOne data centre across the street; Virtus has at least 3 data centre locations in Slough. The former structure was demolished early 2008 and the data centre constructed 2012 by Kier Construction, smaller unit extension added 2018.

    DC's are highly resilient and redundant. Losing one often means nothing at all, but the data is all there and needs to be highly protected from mostly data theft.

    I know exactly what's in there, having been in there a fair few times with my old place of work. It is VERY secure, and EXTREMELY loud inside. But as that dude said, if you're hosting in something of this calibre, you're also hosting primary/backup somewhere else in a different city location. DC's such as this one also have multiple power feeds and data feeds from different directions and types - they're extremely difficult to get offline. Why no solar? What would be the point, you could cover the whole roof, it wouldn't even make a dent in the power consumption.

    The security is all about keeping physical penetration to access data limited to authorized persons and not someone who might use access to plant some sort of data breech.
    So with the high security they can market how secure they keep your data.

    it boggles my mind that so few data centres use solar panels on their massive roofs. i mean, you have so much space and you can reduce your huge energy bill? the most cooling by the ACs is needed when its hot and the sun shines.

  • @rogerborg

    Ah, got it. I thought you seemed a bit tetchy there, but they came out all "Who are you? What are you doing?" through gritted teeth, and you can't be repeating the same thing over and over, especially while you're flying. I mean, it's a marginal ✔ because they didn't kick off, but they clearly still believe that there's something wrong with you looking at things that you can see.

    I would guess at the reason for no signage is there is really no reason to advertise to vehicles and pedestrians because that is not how they get customers. If you have an appointment with them then just look for football stadium sized building with the address on the placard!

    Datacentres use multiple server "farms". If one drops, no stress, the others pick up the slack. They're all load balanced and if the load balancer sees that one farm is down it'll drop it from the balancer (Not serve any traffic to it).

    • @rogerkangaroo6118

      What if the load balancer goes down?

    • @LKD70
      @LKD70 19 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@rogerkangaroo6118 you use redundant balancing. Basically multiple load balancers which pick up anything that isn't handled by the first.
