    Utterly and ratherly well explained! You sir, are a professor of all things Nilesy and a credit to all that moves and grooves.
    Many and merciful thanks for taking the time and effort to sprinkle your gifts so freely amongst us all.
    Thus inspired, I must away now and try to squeeze my morbidly ample frame back into the well-worn funktrunks of my youth. My children will be horrified at the sights and sounds that will now bloom forth. So it's all to the universal good - little bastards.

    I am a LIFELONG Chic fan. Bernard Edwards is my reason for picking up the bass guitar. So naturally, whenever I play rhythm guitar, Nile is my benchmark. About 8 1/2 years ago, I put up a video demonstrating the bass part to this song, which has thousands of views and hundreds of comments.
    That being said, I am BLOWN AWAY by this video. Your feel and your ears are spot on. I love how you break each section down and also how you make mention of the fact that the "gigging tips" video varies from what Nile actually played on the recordings. There aren't a lot of people who've been able to convey his style. Kudos to you good sir !!

      Chris Gambaro-Vega Cheers Chris. Glad you enjoyed the video. I will check out your bass lessons as I like to dabble with a bit of bass.

    Thanks Dave. This piece is NOT easy. Making smooth transitions from one complex barre chord shape to another is very demanding: economy of movement, shaping fingers in the air and mentally.😢😒. Took me ages of practice to get it super smooth. You have shown masterful smooth chord transitions. I’m still not there yet. Thanks for all the tips👍👏 Very grateful.

    Great lesson! By far the best I've seen on this tune! :)
    One thing I do differently though is in the verse I play EbMaj / BbMaj / CMin (root on A string) then slide up to the FMin7 at the 8th fret (root on the A string). Cm is the relative minor of the Eb so it sounds very similar really, but I think the Cm fits better against the bassline to my ear, and the slide up to the Fm7 is more pronounced.

      Thanks. There are certainly a few approaches you could take with this tune :)

    I just had to come back to this. You are living proof that musical excellence and authenticity is not bound by race. I'm gonna take a guess and confidently say that you're not a Black man. However, being a life long Chic fan, I have searched for video of people doing covers and tutorials of their songs, both on bass and guitar. Sadly, I'm often disappointed. You have gotten his style down to PERFECTION. Chord voicings as well as his feel. I don't know if this came to you quickly or if it's something that you had to break down and ingest slowly. But regardless of the process, the end result is perfect.

      Chris Gambaro-Vega Thanks Chris, much appreciated. I can remember the technique coming fairly early on. It was the time, tone and groove that is ongoing for me.

    Very nice that you included how nile rodgers plays, and what is actually on the record. So now those dumb nerds can stop commenting to "watch nile rodger's gigging tips" to see how he actually plays.

    • @DavePriceGuitarist
      @DavePriceGuitarist  8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      +kenny grump Thanks Kenny. Yes I learnt my lesson after I posted up Good Times a few years ago. I put the chords used on the original recording and got lots of comments telling me I was wrong because they had seen the nile rodger's gigging tips video.

    Was first wondering how you created the backing track (which nails the bass frighteningly close), but in retrospect realised I had heard it before.. did you indeed use the karaoke backing track at th-cam.com/video/zP4G_gFn93U/w-d-xo.html&t=3m16s ?

      SIN MILITANT Don't press down heavy on the chords when you want to do it, just use chord hand to mute the strings.
