Went to this as a 15 year old Leicestershire fan. One of the best days out I’ve ever had. Great memories, always remember the date,20th July. Went with my uncle who’s no longer with us, miss you unc 😢😢
Very fond memories of this day watching this at home with my Dad. Back in the days when Leicestershire could have international players and when you could watch cricket on the BBC without the loud music and crappy gimmicks
I remember as an 11 year old in Spring 1986 my Dad saying to me "I'm sorry, but that cricket commentator you really like won't be on telly this summer". I said "he can't have got the sack, he's brilliant". My Dad then told me the very sad news that Jim Laker had died. I was shocked as he always sounded like a younger man in great health, and was very saddened as his relaxed but still very interested descriptions of matches was a cornerstone of my childhood.
Great to see this again, thanks again for upload. I was doing my O-levels when it was played, fine memories of wonderful Ashes triumph with Gooch, Gower and Willey all getting runs here. Do you have any footage of Leics' Zimbabwean Brian Davison at all btw? Just cannot find any whatsoever on internet or anywhere else unfort...
I was at Lord’s many years ago and watched a skyer from Brian Davison fly beyond the long-on boundary, over my head and out of the ground-almost effortlessly. What strength he had in his arms. This Final features a super all-rounder who has now sadly passed-Paddy Clift.
tstsullivan bit unfair - he was a very decent county bowler, but was handicapped by not being able to hold the bat and being inconsistent when he played for England
It was like watching a county championship match for the 1st 30-40 overs of a 1day game back then. It wasn't until the last 15 overs of the innings that you'd see any real difference in run rate/shots played. The over rates in this match were good too - 15/16 overs per hour is far more than you see today.

When international players were available for their counties in a final, and there wasn't an ODI or T20I on on the same day.
Great to hear the dulcet tones of Jim Laker
Andrew Hardingham agreed. Loved Jim Laker
And the end of the 1985 season, very sadly, was the last time. A wonderful voice that is an important feature in the landscape of my childhood.
The voice of cricket when I were a lad. Jim Laker and Richie Benaud bring back carefree days watching cricket as a boy. Wonderful memories.
@@Ingens_ScherzHis last ever commentary is also on youtube - A Sunday league game between Essex and Yorkshire at Chelmsford September 1985.

I was there as an Essex fan - but Gower was sublime when he batted
I was gutted when I turned on teletext to be greeted with the headline: "Leic lord it at Lords" :-(
But they did deserve to win...just. ;-)
Ironically, this Essex boy born & bred now lives in Leicester!!

better commentator than you were a player, Aggers!!

Great commentator Jonathan
100 up in 31 overs. How did anyone stay awake. "These 2 are really pushing it along now, 50 off 79 balls" AB DeVilliers would be approaching 200

@@JP1234815 Until the end - when Gooch´s time-wasting was disgraceful.
They used to take the mickey out of poor old Peter West, though, didn't they?!
