Gawd, I was there and that last over doesn't get any easier to watch 30 years on. Just remember as the last ball was being bowled, the whole of Lord's shouting 'Come on Derek..!' Thankfully Pringle prevailed (more by luck than judgement obvs...)
Anna Elizabeth Wade - Same here! It was the day before my 17th birthday! As an Essex CCC fanatic, I was an absolute mess during the final over, and couldn't believe that Randall had got Notts to that position! I surely thought Essex were done for...... Me and my dear Dad (RIP) went ballistic when Prichard held the catch. I couldn't believe what I'd just witnessed - what an amazing cricket match! :D
& me. i snook into the compton upper on the old benches as an excited mad about cricket 15 year old. still gutted derek couldn't hit it a foot higher to clear mid wicket. the coach back to nottm was silent.
I was there. Thought we'd blown it (as usual) in that final over. Had Randall not stepped away for the last time, Pringle would have been done for a huge legside wide and Notts would have won.
I was there as well my 2nd final after the 83 BH where Essex threw the game away v Middx. Almost did so again here. I'm actually on this footage when the camera zoomed in on the crowd! Fantastic game and fantastic day. I went up to Nottingham to Trent Bridge the following day as Essex were playing Notts again in the Sunday League. Gooch and Hardie put on loads again for the 1st wkt and Essex won that game as well!
I was there supporting Essex paid £20 to sit on the grass with Notts fans, great day will never forget that last over, made up for losing B&H final to Leics that season
One of the first 'celebrity' deaths which shocked me as a young boy. He was still relatively young (64) and only 2 weeks earlier had a radio interview where he was looking forward to the new season
We went on a cricket holiday in 1986 arranged by Chris Martin Jenkins and Jim Laker was one of the Cricket stars scheduled to be there along with Jim Swanton Tom Graveney and my hero Dennis Amiss. sadly Jim Laker died a few months before the trip so we never got to meet him.
dlamiss That's fanciful at best. To say Laker was a dour, sour curmudgeon is an understatement. Stop romanticizing a past that never was. Is English your second language or have you had a nip or two...??

@@mark.lawrence Sorry Mark! Was at the B&H two years before when Wayne Daniel bowled poor Neil Foster in the dark so know how it feels...
It was impossible for French to make that stumping because it hit Gooch's leg! They had bloody high standards for keepers in those days!
Thats my Uncle Brian :) Chuffed to see this.
my 1st ever game at lords ... crest fallen that randall couldn't get the last ball away ... i'll never forget the last over ... theatre ...
Great game and I'm a Glamorgan supporter.

sadly, it was Jim Laker's last commentary.
