What’s the status of AutoSave option, when you open the document. You can find that at the top bar on word. Make sure all mandatory metadata is filled otherwise AutoSave will be disabled.
Status of the auto save shows as turn off when open from the browser. When I turn on it just give the option to save in to the one drive. The content type document deployed from admin center

Using 'Edit in grid view', I can able to write information in Client Company column for EmployeeContract template...
