However, I present to you the Toll Road Only / Toll Booth Only Challenge! We are making a city with no houses, no population, no industry! And still making a profit?? Trust me: Don't do that. Tea is made from the oils in the leaves diffusing into the hot water with steeping. Tea left for that long is going to oxidize and the flavour and value to your health is going to heavily suffer because of it; only buy half a year's supply at most, and just go for a second shopping trip then. You can even split it up into spring/summer and fall/winter teas, if you wanted. @@Kaiimei

This is nowhere near peak toll. You could've created a Mr. Bones's Wild Ride made entirely out of toll booths.
I thought the same thing and experimented with this earlier tonight, and it looks like the game *does* in fact start to rapidly decrease highway traffic once the number of toll booths per route gets above ten or so, making for rapidly diminishing returns. It is quite likely the setup in the video is fairly close to the peak income one can generate with this method.
@@falleithani5411 Cims in vehicle have a travel timer and if they hit it or calculate that every route is above said timer they will despawn or not spawn at all and just teleport. With Traffic Manager: President Edition you can turn off this "feature".
Cims on foot dont have a travel timer they have a wait timer apparently.
This is terrifyingly accurat to where I live! I am literally trapt between automatic tollbots to get to work and home, or if I want to go to a store or visit friends.
Drop a few tornadoes and you could call this the Oklahoma simulator.
Because I live there and several turnpikes operate like this. No warning. No way to turn around (concrete divider to keep you from off roading it into the other lane). Pay to get in, drive past the town of Bridge Creek or to get to interstate 44 on highway 9, pay to get back out.
What I am saying is THIS IS A REAL THING. And apparently not just there, because Oklahoma Governors legally get a small percentage of taxes from toll roads they installed during their term per year... even after they leave office.

Oklahoma used to be full of Dixiecrats. Socially right, economically left. 2 to 1 democrat. Most of them jumped to the Oklahoma Republican party starting with the "Reagan Democrat" movement in the 80s and it has been noticably more tax happy and less free market since.

Actually you just use custom roads to create lanes with no exit and make a circle around your town with a single toll booth. The amount of cars eventually hits critical mass.

I don't play cities skylines so I don't know if this would work. Can you make a roundabout(with tolls obviously), destroy all the roads going in to the roundabout and get infinite money that way? Or would the cars just disappear after a while?
in vanilla they would despawn but if you used a mod like Traffic Manager you can toggle despawning

I could see this working in the real world if marketed correctly as an abomination of capitalism and getting people to go there just to experience how absolutely ripped off you can get. Some kind of "free" modern art exhibition where the action of paying at every booth is part of the piece.

It exist. In my area the government spent millions on building carpool lanes that were free. Few years later sold them off to be toll roads. Now you need to have a subscription pass to use those roads... So basically taxpayers paid to build it, private company charges people to use it.

Isnt the most efficent way just deleting all but 1 outgoing exits to the map, keeping all inputs, and making a super long zigzag road network connecting all inputs on the map to a 1 way road tollbooth going to the one exit?
