As a student of English literature at Cambridge, a recipient of Leavis, a performer, AND a profound admirer of Ms Margoyles, might I say that she charmingly appears not to realise her own worth? Dickens had an immeasurable effect in correcting the social injustices and the follies of his age. He wrote his characters with the ear of the actor that he'd at one time wished to become, and which he, in his public readings, delivered them. Ms Margoyles is that too-rare thing: a very good actor indeed, who has also the intelligence, the depth of knowledge of the human condition as explored in literature, AND the moral integrity so rarely allied with celebrity. Value her, as I sincerely hope that she values herself
I am so glad to see that someone else has something to say in praise of the wonderful MM, and such an informed and insightful comment.
Here is a woman after my own heart in so many ways though I cannot claim to be very like her, I do aspire to her honesty and kindness.
I am so pleased to see such a recent talk with her.

I relate very much to Miriam..being Jewish and with relatives that also came from Glasgow as jewish refugees..I agree with so many of her political and other views on swearing too !!! and her general love for profanity and generally cutting through somewhat petty social norms and mores.But I can't help but think that there is a shared history and culture that makes her seem very familiar to me.
I was never a believer myself having just been bought up going to synagogue and part of a jewish community but later in life various expereinces have lead me to believe that there is way more to this world then the material things we see around us and there are spiritual principles to live by that I think Jesus and many other religions or spiritual practices are alluding to.
Also loved the interviewer and yes it is amazing that someone from his humble background has become an Oxford scholar...good on him,we need more of them

at last someone who understands how cruel it is to deny Jezus his humanity. he was not god. he was a splendid bloke and I guess he would be appalled if he knew what people (Christians) did with his teachings

Did you know there were monks in France who would write you a bible totally to your liking? The stories were never meant to be taken literally but were a means to make spiritual principles digestible for the people.

Listen to Derek Prince who was a Cambridge graduate and studied hebrew Latin and Greek. He and many other Christian scholars are not fooled by a twobit bible. It goes with a personal relationship with God. But you have freewill. I believe. You don't.
