Barry has a good point. He is scared that he'll miss out on everything, due to what he experienced when Nora first visited from the future. He wants to know his kids and be there for them. However, Iris is right, too. What's the point of having a future if it's already laid out, instead of doing everything you can out of your own mind, to make the best out of it. Gotta love the morality they put in this last season

@@SnowChild-wh7go Yeah, I was talking about the "first" Nora in Season 5. In her time line, Barry vanished during Crisis on Infinite Earths, therefore not being in her life. It's different with the other Nora and Bart, but Barry seems so obsessed in making sure than nothing really goes wrong and the future remains "as it should be".

Honestly but is he really living if he is living by a checklist of a version of himself that made those choices. Barry took away Iris choice to live in the moment and especially with how quickly the timeline could change Barry was wrong to do this knowing too much of one of future is dangerous and for me this is where Barry points fades it also doesn't help that Iris was just stuck in time hell with time sickness
@@theoutsiderjess4869 Barry was also using that checklist to force his boss to let him get a promotion. Barry did use the book as an excuse and Captain Kramer went like I don't know what the hell the book you wrote have anything to do with it. So not only was Barry trying to force Iris to go by the book, he even attempted to use that to his own boss. At the end, when Barry went according to free will, it is like erasing his record of arguing with his boss.
Well,both are right. Barry wants to keep track of everything,due to what happened with Iris & the negative forces…. On the other hand, Iris just wants to go with the flow & not know every single detail of what’ll happen in the future,I mean I’d be worried 🤷🏽♀️. Both make a good arguement.
Yeah though previous arguments have sounded like iris just complaining to barry for being nice this argument definitely an argument instead of berating barry

@Bridget Williams. There is more at play here in Iris's mind than just going with the flow. Iris doesn't want her life to be determined by a book. She wants to be in control of how it will turn out, and not be made to make decisions that she does not wish or end up regretting just so that the future turns out how it is supposed to. Yes there is risk, but by not using the book, it is hers to control (as much as humanly possible).
You want safety over freedom and living. It's not a new subject and American experiment has been this idea of freedom over safety and it looks like soon the experiment will end

They could compromise by using the book as a guide and letting the rest, which couldn’t possibly all be documented, be their choice.

What makes this scene hit hard is that we can understand the others perspective. One hand, Barry's been through so much, losing Iris, and the things with Nora. But on the other hand, Iris doesn't want her future planned right in front of her and wants to make it herself. Great scene
Barry want's to do things by the book, quite literally! This whole notion of living a predetermined existence, really would lose any wonder or excitement about the future. That is why I'm kind of siding with Iris, about her abjection toward Barry's plan.

I understand where you are coming from but 1: that’s basically all relationships in a nutshell 2: this show was garbage so it just seemed like iris was arguing with Barry for no reason but this actually seems and feels like a struggle instead of just minutes to add to the episode

I remember when thawne said Barry becomes obsessed with the future, which means that it might be possible that barry will go to the future where thawne is and that will be moment he steals "everything" from him.
That book should be up in flames running at that speed.

If that was the case don't you think the VFX team would have at least added the aura effect around him to indicate it. Plus during that scene, Barry was running around the city non-stop till it was night-time with the book on his hand.

On a comic sheet it's understandable not to use it on every panel, it will totally color clash with the background and distort everything but this is on screen. The tech us there. We've come along way interms of film production. It shouldn't be a problem.

I love this episode, because Barry's future book was something similar to what I tried to do. I had a note book and wrote down a list of mistakes that I had made in my past, when I made them, how I made them, and what I can do to avoid them. I did that because I wanted to believe that I could go back in time and give it to my younger self so all of my mistakes can be avoided, then I would have a better past than I had before.
I am on Iris side on this one, she has a few good points saying that she dosen’t want to rush anything and, just live in the moment, i think i can relate to this episode a lot because of my future not written or told yet, i don’t know what’s gonna happen and Iris i think wants to make her own future and hers only and that is totally under stable. see i always thought planning and people making decision for me is’t the way that i want to spend my life or my future, i want to make my own future and no one can make the choices for me. I want live by my own rules and no else, so i get where iris is coming from.
Barry is just forcing her and planning their future but he never asked what she wanted in return and that’s a very good point.

I've been watching this show since 2014 ... Still everything feels relevant except Cecile & Allegra ... Both of them are outplaced characters shoved into with main characters being thrusted into seem important which they are not ... Their presence in important scenes just casually outweighs the necessity of that scene and destroys everything good about it .. I mean I don't have anything against those two actresses but I just don't know if they actually suit in with the team as important members ... I mean what connection does Cecile has with Barry that she can direct him onwards ??? I just watch this show because of the love for its first 3 seasons and respecting the OG 4 characters .... Nothing else .. just my thoughts

@@gabrielacosta9470 Well, now the Executives know that people are twice as critical with minority actresses, they are now funding twice as much for their storylines and VFX. I noticed this with Starfire and Blackfire in S3. They did the most with their VFX's while Teagan Croft's Raven and Beast were not their best.

He could just agree to not talk about it. And let Iris think she is choosing. We all have seen what happens they try to change things.
We've also seen what happens when Barry secretly tries to control/change his and Iris's future against her will (lying about why he was proposing, waiting until Iris's left the room so that he could drag and dump Nora back in 2049, an action that literally led right to her death). Very glad it never even crossed his mind to hide this time notebook from her. It shows he's FINALLY learning from his past mistakes

That is what Barry was supposed to do around his boss Captain Kramer. I mean Barry even brought up the book. Captain Kramer only responds like I have no idea what you are talking about. Not only did Barry attempt to force his wife to go by the book, he even used that book in an attempt to force his boss to let him get a promotion. Barry said to Captain Kramer he is supposed to get a promotion based on the book. So Barry also was not even supposed to talk about what his book say to both his wife Iris and his boss Captain Kramer. So yes, Barry can make the plan and not talk about it.
0:40 what moment? You're living in a time loop, the moment literally means nothing because nothing will change, grow, and move forward. "Living in the moment" is enjoying the each moment as they come and not worrying about the past or future because only the now can be changed. Barry may or may not be wrong, I don't think he is, but at least he wants to move forward and build a future for them. But Iris wants to stay in her little safe space bubble, that's not living in the moment, that's not even running away (because at least you're still going somewhere when you run away), she's HIDING

OMG, it's 2024 next year. They made it a plot that he disappears in 2024 in Season 1 because that's when shows would end... on their 10th season. Except we had Covid so S9 due to delay.

Everything about that behavior of his obsession made him eventually realize he must change and not go by the book. I mean when he told his boss about the book, his boss went like I have no idea what you are talking about. When Barry was obsessed with the book, he even acted entitled for the promotion around his boss. That book, not only effected the way how he behaves around his wife. It also effected the way he went to work.

There is one thing I don't understand. In season 1 Barry almost burned up his clothing while running. Now he's almost 10 times faster and he's clothing is fine?

in the 9 years that hes been the flash im pretty sure all his clothes are power proof
the book on the other hand idk. An argument can be made that he is in such control of his powers that all the miniscule things that come with being the flash are dealt by his subconscious.
