I am that point where I want to create my own npc but not because I want my custom made boyfriend, but I want my in-game parents to appear in the game and visit my in game children. It feels weird have parents send you letters in the game and for you to not contact them back. The phone thing in the game feels like a miss opportunity to call your mom or dad.
The scheduling is the weirdest bugbear to deal with - you gotta download Tiled and a patch for it and then use another mod to unpack xnb files to then finally get coordinates for npc pathing for schedules. As well as the vanilla npcs' pathing per day per season. It's, um, interesting.
@@bleakautomaton4808 Yeah instead of making an NPC from the ground up, I took an already created npc mod named "John" and just changed the dialogue and backstory so that he is my in-game dad and was the one who was sending me letters and gave me money in my first year. Still, in my headcanon backstory, my parents and I had a huge fight over me quitting my job at Jojo and we hadn't spoken to each other in weeks before the beginning of the game. My in-game Dad, who is the NPC named John, was a little more sympathetic to my reason for wanting to quit Jojo but he hated that I chose to work on the same farm that his father used to own because he has his own personal hang-ups and baggage that centers around mostly with his relationship with my grandpa and with dealing a personal near-death experience he had a long time ago in Pelican Town that inspired him to become a Priest and move us to Zuzu city. I can sort of get around to diving into my backstory with the custom NPC John mod but I'm unable to change certain dialogue in the cutscenes with Doctor Harvey. However, I don't know what to do with my In-game Mom character because it would've required creating an npc from scratch. The closest thing I can do is take another NPC named Cameron from the Jasper mod and make her my in-game Mom but I rather just make a created NPC instead of dealing with editing the Jasper mod in order to do that. Not really fond of Jasper. I would also love to figure out how to make a cut scene of introducing my future spouse to my parents and have them just be present at the wedding. Hopefully, it's not as hard as looks.
@@TheNicMMc I'm really a beginner myself, I am having a blast with a mod tool called Miss Coriel's NPC creator. I'm no stranger to sprite work and how tedious it can be to make it look decent enough (I also used the same portrait creator site Seanie did in his stream as a base to work from, using photoshop's super-zooming and pencil tool to craft everything else). The NPC creator thankfully has a walking sprite template, but it still needs to be modified to make the character itself (doing the portrait first also does help with much of the color scheme). I can appreciate the story you are looking to create with the parent relationship and I wish you luck.

Not even 4 minutes in, and I'm already so invested in this story. I'd have had her be Marlon or Gil's granddaughter coming to take care of her aging grandparent, and a lifelong adventurer conflicted that she maybe wants to leave the Guild and do something else.
Ok but this mod unironically makes Lewis SUCH a better character. He’s so much better balanced and yeah he’s still a self centered narcissist but he’s also caring and looks out for someone OTHER then hisself and he learns that other things matter more then his reputation. I just genuinely want this mod to better balance him and make the game more enjoyable

But I'm looking for him to be a more fleshed out character with the adventurer's guild than a content patch shop keep (nothing wrong with those) (as crazy as it's gonna be to figure out the mod tools for making a custom shop menu/etc). There will be story, but no marriage because eh I don't really wanna lol.

The takeaway from this video is that we all gotta say thank you to any writers that put thought into the structure and pacing of mundane dialogue that goes into games with social systems. The modders also because they really pull some hat tricks, but I already do that every single day.
As someone who also made a Custom NPC mod as my first ever mod for Stardew... I know that it's a ton of work. I had never made any kind of mod before, so I was basically cobbling together something that broke when 1.5 released. My mod had only been up for a few months, but I spent *months* working on it. I need to update it so that it can be used with the 1.5 update... that came out a few years ago at this point... progress has been slow. The biggest point of contention: where to put the NPC's house. I used (with permission) a separate mod that added the Summit to the game to place the NPC's house there, but now that the Summit is actually *in* the game, all Summit mods are basically pointless and thus, my mod needs an update. Plus I need to update heart events, dialogue, double-check to see if the issue where the NPC wouldn't return to their house from the beach is still an issue... it's a lot of work to make a mod. And I'm working on a second NPC mod. And potentially 2 other NPC mods- though those are more 'ideas' at this point. Congrats on making a custom NPC Seanie! Custom NPCs require a ton of moving parts. There's a reason mine took 5 months to make. Someone I know bet I could finish it before the end of 2019. My custom NPC released early 2020, because I was unable to finish it in 2019 for multiple reasons. EDIT: there is a custom NPC maker on Nexusmods that was created while I was making my custom NPC mod. But I found it a bit confusing to use, so I just had to use another Custom NPC as sort of a 'guideline' for how to make stuff work, what to do, etc. And I saw one Custom NPC used my mod as a 'guideline', despite the fact mine was horribly cobbled together. Literally hours after I released it, someone said 'hey, I hope you don't mind but I changed the sprites, here's what I made' and their sprites were *way better* than the horrible ones I made. Literally edited Abigail, and you could tell it was edited Abigail. EDIT 2: I've watched the whole video and laugh so hard I started coughing. My ribs hurt. I love Chrissy.
Binge-watching Stardew content creators convinced me to start my own modded save and GOD I'd love to make a mod too, but my coding knowledge goes as far as Python and HTML and that's it lmao

@@lilliefluffWho knows how long it'll take me. This will be an optional npc trader who will be open on Wednesdays in the forest (because not open on wednesday, really pierre?). But I'm looking for him to be a more fleshed out character with the adventurer's guild than a content patch shop keep (nothing wrong with those) (as crazy as it's gonna be to figure out the mod tools for making a custom shop menu/etc). There will be story, but no marriage because eh I don't really wanna lol.

The takeaway from this video is that we all gotta say thank you to any writers that put thought into the structure and pacing of mundane dialogue that goes into games with social systems.
The modders also because they really pull some hat tricks, but I already do that every single day.
As someone who also made a Custom NPC mod as my first ever mod for Stardew... I know that it's a ton of work. I had never made any kind of mod before, so I was basically cobbling together something that broke when 1.5 released. My mod had only been up for a few months, but I spent *months* working on it. I need to update it so that it can be used with the 1.5 update... that came out a few years ago at this point... progress has been slow. The biggest point of contention: where to put the NPC's house. I used (with permission) a separate mod that added the Summit to the game to place the NPC's house there, but now that the Summit is actually *in* the game, all Summit mods are basically pointless and thus, my mod needs an update. Plus I need to update heart events, dialogue, double-check to see if the issue where the NPC wouldn't return to their house from the beach is still an issue... it's a lot of work to make a mod. And I'm working on a second NPC mod. And potentially 2 other NPC mods- though those are more 'ideas' at this point.
Congrats on making a custom NPC Seanie! Custom NPCs require a ton of moving parts. There's a reason mine took 5 months to make. Someone I know bet I could finish it before the end of 2019. My custom NPC released early 2020, because I was unable to finish it in 2019 for multiple reasons.
EDIT: there is a custom NPC maker on Nexusmods that was created while I was making my custom NPC mod. But I found it a bit confusing to use, so I just had to use another Custom NPC as sort of a 'guideline' for how to make stuff work, what to do, etc. And I saw one Custom NPC used my mod as a 'guideline', despite the fact mine was horribly cobbled together. Literally hours after I released it, someone said 'hey, I hope you don't mind but I changed the sprites, here's what I made' and their sprites were *way better* than the horrible ones I made. Literally edited Abigail, and you could tell it was edited Abigail.
EDIT 2: I've watched the whole video and laugh so hard I started coughing. My ribs hurt. I love Chrissy.

Binge-watching Stardew content creators convinced me to start my own modded save and GOD I'd love to make a mod too, but my coding knowledge goes as far as Python and HTML and that's it lmao
