      You can deny the Earth is round but it doesn't change anything. Google Assistant has "routines" where you can create custom commands. Yes flexibility isn't 100% but nevertheless, you can customize commands OR put your faith in best AI assistant there is.

    Even though I'm not an Apple fan, I'm still very glad that someone is pursuing the local processing way without the cloud. End to end encryption and data security and privacy is very important for some people and it is respectable that Apple provides an alternative to Googles approach.

      Shortcuts is about stuff happening when you say something to Siri (when I say this do that), while IFTTT is more about stuff happening after an action (when this happens do that). Right?
      And yes shortcuts is probably based on workflow.

    Guys you have to stop with this "old Android phones don't get new features" bullcrap. The Google Assistant is updated via the Google app on All devices running 6.0 or higher. If you have a phone from 2014 that runs MM you ALREADY have Google Assistant's Routines which was now ripped off by Apple's Shortcuts. You don't need OS updates to get new Google Assistant features, unlike that poor and pathetic Siri. This is why Android is miles ahead. It's an open platform that gets updated via it's apps. Yes fragmentation is bad, but iOS users don't seem to understand the difference between their locked down OS and this open one.

  • @KawshikAhmed

    If 6% of Android devices is running latest version of Android that's mean still 120 million people is using latest OS version. (There are 2 Billion 'Active' Android devices). That is not a small number. You can still say it 'Millions and Million People'

      Thanks Dieter! I understand. It will be a giant battle I guess in the future - which is better, Andoird Apps on Chromebooks, IOS apps Macs or full Windows on the Snapdragon CPUs. That will be interesting. Maybe thats MS strategy - hey we dont have windows phones, but just call each device a windows device and everything runs everywhere.

    • @0mildoo
      @0mildoo 6 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      Windows running on ARM is too little too late and something they already did years ago that absolutely did not take (I would know, I bought one of their first gen ARM tablets). Microsoft is less and less relevant in the consumer space every day and as great as they’re doing in the enterprise market phones are still the most important computers around and no one is asking their phones to be more like the PC they have laying around somewhere collecting dust that they associate with work.

      KARTIK SHARMA and slow down our phone? I rather they stop update for old device. For me as long the phone had what I need, I don't need any other update. And only tech savvy probably care about this update thing. All my normal friends didn't care about that, some are hate it because they don't know what this update do, and here in my country data plan are expensive, they don't want to waste for something they didn't know.

    • @JackiePrime
      @JackiePrime 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Esther Takumi updates aren’t compulsory and they only slow down your phone if your battery is depleted. If you replace the battery the phone doesn’t slow down.

      first, the perfomance is somehow sooooo bad. My iPhone 6 (not really mine but i use it a lot) is iOS 9 and it's 'burning' so much (i mean it's HOT). second, as a normal user, we don't really need that much security. I'm ok with sharing all of my personal information with Google Assistant. The security on iOS is awesome, but many of iPhone users don't need that much. and the app store is so good, it's good enough that we still have decent games and apps to use in old iOS versions. iOS is good, but it does not as good for me and a lot of other people as Android

  • @vishal_apogeo

    I really appreciate how Apple focuses on user data privacy. Googles way is you give me all your data and let me run my algorithms on your data, learn from it and evolve and then also suggest stuff like shared albums etc. Apples approach, specially with on device machine learning and end to end encryption for shared albums is a more nuanced and professional way of going about things.
    Also, great job on the video, loved it! Being a traditional mkbhd follower, I have to admit I'm more excited now about new content from Dieter Bohn. Really good stuff being delivered consistently!

    • @karanr3ddy
      @karanr3ddy 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Karan Reddy, yes no doubt. But I'm not sure how many people are aware of as to what kind of data and how much of it is sent to Google cloud. And if they were made aware of it, would all of them still want to participate?

    • @JurkusMartynas
      @JurkusMartynas 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Vishal Singh, do you use Google? Because I do extensively. They're amazing at letting their users understand how they use our data in a very understandable manner and (as of today in Europe with GDPR) you can pretty much disable everything you don't want them to gather.

    • @vishal_apogeo
      @vishal_apogeo 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Martynas Jurkus agreed, and yes I'm an android user. And yes, today as of gdpr yes things have changed. But only for people who are aware of it. Here in India, the average Joe has no idea about it. But I'm sure if I ask him to visit takeout.google.com or myactivity.google.com he'd be shocked to see the level of info that Google collects on him including random audio clips. When I first saw all of that, I realized Google knew more about me than my closest relative. That was shocking and also, just the tip of the iceberg.

    I definitely wouldn't compare Slices to Shortcuts. Slices is basically just a first party implementation of IFTTT or Tasker; it's meant to give power to the users. Shortcuts expose meaningful actions to you at times that the Assistant deems helpful; it makes the Assistant more... assistant-y, and the users benefit from that extra capability that the assistant has. If you want programmable triggers on Android, I don't know why you haven't tried either of those 3rd party options yet.

      Great customer service? Great until you suffer a issues caused by there design faults.
      You have the iPhone 4 antenna gate - hold the iPhone 4 a certain way and you 100% lost service, Apple fix was to sell you a case.
      Then you have the power button failure on the iPhone 4,4s,5 and 5s - apple didn't see this as a flaw until 6 months after the iPhone 5s release and then after that fixed it for free.
      Next you have the iPhone 6 bend gate/ touch disease issue. Apple before the launch of the iPhone 6/6plus knew the iPhone 6 had bending issue and up until the recent lawsuit Apple has been making customers pay $150 to fix bent/touch disease iPhones.
      Lastly we don't know the outcome yet but it was revealed the iPhone 6,6s, and 7 all have battery issues. So far apple has charged customers $30 instead of $80 to replace batteries. Once again Apple is hiding something. I say that because it happens with multiple iPhone models so you can't say it was a bad batch of batteries because each phone is released a year apart.
      I'm not saying iPhones are bad devices. Some people probably never suffered from a issues listed above and never will but it's the fact that Apple tries to tell there customers you caused this not us and not owing up to there mistakes that makes me feel totally different about there support.

      I used to be a diehard Android user. Back in the day an HTC guy, then eventually an LG guy. Over time though, as I watched the Android ecosystem become more and more fractured, and jaded by consistently being left with ancient security patches and false promises of updates to the latest version, I got fed up.
      Owned an iPad Mini 2 since early 2014, and that thing still gets regular updates to the latest versions of iOS and full security patches. Still just as snappy as when I bought it, even with the limited multitasking in larger modern apps due to only 1GB of RAM. Even 4 years later, if I have a problem or just need an issue checked out, I can just walk into a local Apple store and talk to somebody in person to help diagnose the issue.
      When I needed to pick a new device late last year, I decided I wanted to go back to a smaller formfactor device. Other requirements were for timely updates to the latest software, proven software support for at least 3 years and ideally 5, easily accessible support, and solid battery life. That left me with pretty much just the iPhone 8 and Pixel 2 within my budget range. Didn't really like the Pixel 2 all that much, so ended up with the iP8. So far, I'd have to say out of every phone I've ever owned, it's been my favourite.
      I would like to note that the rest of my computing devices consist of a constantly upgraded gaming PC, Google Pixelbook, mid-size Windows laptop, and a few Google Home units.

    • @RobCarter04
      @RobCarter04 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      "Apple fix was to sell you a case. "
      Every iPhone 4 owner was eligible for a free case, or a refund if they had previously purchased one.
      "it was revealed the iPhone 6,6s, and 7 all have battery issues"
      These are not production flaws or defects, the "issue" is something that all lithium-ion powered devices suffer from - battery degredation over long periods of usage. As the packs age, not only does capacity decrease (shorter battery life in general), but eventually they are unable to adequately provide the current needed by the device below a certain charge level. This leads to devices both restart loops when trying to perform a CPU-heavy task, and the device shutting down and requiring charging even though the battery meter still indicated adequate charge remaining.
      The solution to this issue is to throttle power consumption to avoid the high peaks that cause the battery voltage to drop below the minimum threshold. This causes performance slowdowns, but avoids the frustration of constant restarts when trying to perform a task. I'd rather have a slow phone that's still usable over a quick phone that is unable to perform the tasks I need once below a certain battery level due to restarts.
      If they had rolled out the throttling changes in the state they are today, everything would have been peachy. They should have made an announcement detailing the issues caused by worn out batteries, and how a toggleable throttling feature would avoid restarting issues on those devices. Pair that with encouragement for owners of those devices to bring them in for a discounted battery replacement program and you've got a winner.

    I don’t know why reviewers and many other people don’t understand the fact that when it comes to software ,the features present in it needs to be thought and made over a long period of time. All I want to say is that APPLE CANNOT COPY GOOGLE IN JUST ONE FREAKING MONTH. The grouped notifications, the optimisation for older devices, the screen-time feature were thought to be developed last year itself, and not just last month. The features maybe same as that of Android, but it doesn’t mean that Apple copied google.

      Coding these features is incredilby easy and quick to do if you know what to do. Which apple software engineers probaly do. And most of the time these companies know what they are doing before the general public does. They communicate with journalists and big app developers. Just because something makes a lot of money and is succesful doesn't mean it's hard to do. The first version of instagram could probaly be coded in 1 day by an experienced software engineer. The difficult part is coming up with the ideas and making them look attractive, not the coding.

      Wajahat Butt The Verge THEY DO FORCE IT (at least if you want play services and Android o out of the box on your phone). But some OEMs (*cough *cough Samsung *cough *cough) don't really use it that much. (Samsung S9 is still on 8.0.0 while 8.1.0 has been out for more than half an year).
      It seems to me like there is a large demographic that doesn't care about updates or, more likely, isn't aware they are an issue. Otherwise Xiaomi and Samsung wouldn't keep all those gimmicks in MiUI and TouchWiz. There can be a stock-like skin, with all the Google stuff replaced by Samsung stuff on the home screen, except the play store, which is still in the dock. The other Google stuff can be in a folder, somewhere .Since TouchWiz doesn't look like this, the demographic above is pretty big. This demographic also seems to care a lot about the sheer number of features, regardless of the overall user experience.
      Sorry for the caps. Also this reply might seem a bit harsh on Samsung and Xiaomi, and I really did not intend it to.
