Shortvalleyhiker could you explain us step by step the process to import the image and work it on gimp? im not sure which file type is 16-bit. is it a Targa file? mine appears green and black when exported, so i havent been able to finish the tutorial. Thanks again for teaching us this. Usually photoshop tutorials for mapmaking are long and cumbersome, but your method is by far the quickest and provides a far more realistic maps than the majority of alternatives. Congrats!
Did you ever end up figuring out what to do with the Wilbur image? I'm not too sure what to do after the erosion cycles in Wilbur and saving as a 16-bit targa file makes it green and unusable like you mentioned.
@@spaincrack4934 I did manage to find something that worked kinda. It probably isn't the correct method that Shortvalleyhiker intended but my workaround is to change the texture of the Wilbur image to Grayscale Relative Elevation Shader, could also maybe use Grayscale Bump Shade, and then save the Wilbur image as a bump map (I can't recall which of the two .bmp formats but either should probably be fine). Doing this should allow it to be imported into GIMP. Hope this helps!
i havent been able to replicate the results of this tutorial :/ How do you make it so the image you import into Gimp from Wilbur is black and white? mine is color only. Can you explain us more step by step the Gimp part? it would be great if you could explain those steps more thoroughfully. thnx!
'Use some brushes' _pulls out a brush that's literally a heightmap and does not exist in photoshop_ Seriously, man, do you have a link to that? 😂I can't find any good mountain brushes...
Impressive workflow! If you wouldn't mind, a step-by-step one with Wilbur and Gimp would be very helpful!
Did you figure out how to make it using gimp only?
Great tutorial! I'd love a more detailed overview where you talk through illustrator/photoshop since I have no experience in either of those programs.
Sure thing! I'll get to it :)
Thanks a lot for the Tutorial! im gonna redraw my map and try Wilbur and its erotion cycles, first time i hear about it.
Glad you liked it!
Very cool, thank you for creating!

May be beneficial to update the link in the description to your g-drive since the current link has a corrupt file. thanks for the tutorial!
Great tutorial mate, instant sub! Can't getthe brushes working in latest Gimp though, keep getting an "Unable to decode abr format version 7." error.

I'll release an updated version where I have a short video focusing on only the Wilbur part. Hopefully it will help!
Wow! Outstanding... where can I learn more? Insta-sub!
Thank you! There are forums on reddit and elsewhere, plenty of tutorials by among others @Artifexian - Just a quick search and you'll find plenty :)
how to save in Wilbur its not working
Are you saving it as a grayscale image without any metadata?
@@shortvalleyhiker nah bro I did find a way to fix it
