    Wow..that drive was fantastic. The Douro valley is spectacular and some architectural beauties waiting to be restored. Still, that early foggy sunrise in Minho is unbeatable and Alabaster fits right in❤

    I am 71 yrs old and this is the 1st time I've seen mecanical harvesting of olives. Very interesting and Portugal seems to be a beautiful country. Thankyou... I'm from SA.

    One of the things I like almost as much as the actual taste of olives is the history. It must be one of the oldest crops of humanity, wine, olives and grains. Thousands of years of finding the best ways of getting the best taste. It was a way of life for many generations in a few countries, absolutely amazing. You might notice I'm a little biased, Sicilian heritage.🤭😁❤️

    Peaceful time spent with other nice people. Very good photography. I took a few screen shot to make computer desktop pictures from. I use them for a week or so before moving onto something else of interest to study for natures beauty. 👍👍👍

    I grew up next to a Catholic Church. They rang their bells all of the time ( daily), you could tell what time it was. I did not attend that church because I'm Presbyterian. I always enjoy your videos, thank you. Watching from Panama City Florida, USA. 🇺🇸🦅 !

    Love and miss those foggy mornings from the North, gorgeous views of the Douro that I never seen before! wow that tractor with the shaker is awesome I bet my grandfather would of loved that!

    The old trees are so beautiful, they look the part. When I think of olives I also think of dates, figs, pomegranate, all the early staples that you found in most gardens. 👍

    The more I watch videos on the harvesting of Olives, the grading of olives and the producing of olive oil, the more appreciation I have for it. I love olives and also olive oil, so this is good to know. Thanks for sharing your knowledge of the olives.

    I am happy to see that your channel is growing. That was a beautiful drive along the Duro River (maybe it was another river), three hundred KM is a trip. I am assuming you did not use the toll highways...
    The olive harvest was epic, your friend has a cool set up with all the equipment. How many litres did you earn helping? Will you show us how the other olives were processed for your personal use?

    A little explaining would be a big help for those of us on UTube! What happen to the tent? The drainage ditch? How will the chicken box3s work? Woodworking skills are great but a little explanation helps me and I would assume others to engage with your project. The duck pond?your nostalgia is well documented and I’m pleased for you and I appreciate your desire and skills to duplicate…but please share in conversation as you did with grape harvest.     Olive oil in the uk has become horrendously expensive over the past few years. A bottle of cheap Aldi olive oil that was £1.20 is now £7.20. I used to use it all the time, now it is a luxury.

      A few bad harvests in Italy seemed to send the price up to unfortunately stay there. It’s my opinion that a lot of that price increase is from the retailers

      The old Roman road
      The caminho de Santiago (St. James way) goes through the village here. There’s a few stretches that date back a few centuries to Roman times

    I know we get crappy olive oil here in the states.
    It’s mixed with canola oil and comes in from many countries in the same bottle!
    What can you tell me about what brand(s) to buy here that is decent?

      What’s available to you may be primarily of Italian origin, as they are the biggest exporters.
      If you find some of Greek origin it may be a good option. From my own tasting experience, I believe that Greek Olive oils are less likely to be blended.

    Fresh olive oil is the best no way I’d buy it from a supermarket ever again because the quality is so low there

    What happens with the bitter ingredients of the fresh olives if you press them to oil? Because olive oil is not bitter.

      What’s left after extracting the oil is the flesh with the water plus the seed particles. The (água russa) red water is indeed very bitter. All of this goes to a composting tank and eventually back to the olive grove.

    Will you have to register your ducks & chickens as part of the EU policy ? In Britain it is causing a bit of a backlash from smallholdings and people who are keeping just a couple of hens for their eggs .

      Best to find some locally. It’s my opinion that Greek olive oils are less likely to be blended with seed oils. This purely from my tasting experience. Also they seem to like early harvested oils.

      In some Portuguese communities in the US you can get Portuguese olive oil. It's usually more expensive than Italian but it's 100% olive oil.

      He always leaves some food, mainly kibble in his bowl so he can have a snack in the morning, he also likes to lick the grill and look for any bits of fish that may have fallen in the fire.
