Tie-dye pattern : Noise! (Hot Water Irrigation Technique)

- Today I am demonstrating how to tie-dye a Noise pattern on a t-shirt using the H.W.I. (Hot Water Irrigation Technique) tie-dye method. This is a step by step tie-dye tutorial video where I cover the entire process beginning with the folding and pleat folding of the design on to the shirt. After that I scrunch the remaining material of the shirt and bind it using rubber bands.
Now that the shirt is all tied up it's time to apply the chosen fiber reactive procion dye powder colors directly on top of the shirt, and then a thin layer of soda ash on top of the dye powders to help the dye react with the fabric of the shirt. Next it's time to move on over to the sink to apply the hot water. For proper hot water application I first use a spray bottle for a light mist to help saturate the dye without it blowing all over, and after that I use my garden pump sprayer that has been filled with water that has been heated to 175 degrees for proper saturation.
For the final steps I let the shirt sit 10-15 minutes, give it a good rinse, and jump right on into the reveal our new tie-dye Noise pattern t-shirt. I hope you enjoy and as always...Happy Tie Dyeing!
***Before working with procion dyes or any kind of fiber reactive dye please make sure to pay special attention to all labels including directions, warnings, and first aid instructions***. I highly recommend gloves, eye protection, and a respirator or dust mask per these instructions.

Riah, when you flipped that tee over to reveal that starburst of colour, I literally exclaimed "Oh my God!", loudly enough to wake my cat. This is amazing! It's one of the most intricately folded designs I've seen you do. And once again, love your colour choices.

I have so many questions. How did you come to this way of doing it? Do you use special powdered dye?
How do you work out the designs on how to fold, tie and dye to achieve the design you want? How many tries does it take to get it right? Are you an artist in other mediums?

Wow thank you! I found different ways to tie dye by joining some groups on Facebook. Most of the designs are trial and error so sometimes they look great on the first try and sometimes there’s a second or third try ☺️ I do have a drawing and a painting channel but I haven’t posted on those in a while

It really depends on how thick it is…some things you can just do the top and it’s saturated really well and sometimes you may have to turn it over and put dye on the areas that’s need it but you can easily tell ☺️❤️

Hi Riah. I have a question for you. Your HWI bottle has a nozzle that I can't seem to find anywhere. The one linked on your videos to Amazon comes with a standard nozzle. Did you order the nozzle separately? Thank you and we love your work. :D:D:D

So you just let it cure for 15 minutes and then you rinse and wash...thats it and it holds the color?
Yes! The hot water fast tracks the batching process and the soda ash helps keep the color in there as well ☺️💚

Is the powdered dye mixed with soda ash when you apply it or no?
At the time of this video I wasn’t mixing. This was just dye but I do mix dye and soda ash now. I do 1/4 cup soda ash with 2 teaspoons of dye and mix well ☺️❤️
