8/10 www.theneedledr...
Y'all know this is just my opinion, right?
Strong 8 is basically a 9 and a 9 is basically a 10. Blonde is a 10/10 confirmed.
@Abrar Muhtasim Sajeed good idea. We’ll start a cult called that. Since you came up with the idea i’ll make sure to credit you. “The Ocean Family, founded by Abrar Muhtasim Sajeed”

only frank can call beyonce up to be a back up singer
This kinda doesnt make any sense. I believe beyoncé is one of the most overrated artist of this generation, she is just an amazing singer/performer but hasn't really ever been rated for her writing skills. Her backup vocals were beautiful and a verse from her wouldn't have been necessary imo
Agtwiz it was a joke
s e b a s You also took that from a comment on genius

Chris Martin...
2016 anthony: the lyrics on Nikes are too high pitched
2019 anthony: igor is 9/10
I don’t know if pitched vocals have grown on Anthony, or he appreciates Igor’s pitched vocals as more of Tyler assuming a different personality or version of himself. Whereas the use of pitched vocals on Nikes seems to just be a creative choice by Frank Ocean. That being said, I don’t think it’s a creative choice Anthony appreciates. He says in the review that the vocals don’t add to the narrative in his opinion. I think he makes a lot of good points about Nikes in juxtaposition with the remainder of the tracklist. TL;DR Igor’s pitched vocals add to the narrative; Nikes don’t serve an obvious purpose.
it was a joke but i appreciate the essay
why Sorry, but his take has received a lot of backlash since 2016 and Frank stans didn’t forget. I am one myself, and this particular comment actually prompted me to write a text post on r/FrankOcean as to why I think Fantano’s opinion is justified
Nikes's vocals are way more ridiculous than anything IGOR has, even when compared to GONE, GONE/THANK YOU
Grey Do you mean as far as pitch, or how well done they?
Almost 3 years later, and I still can’t get my head around the fact you put “Nikes” as the worst track
Melon is just jealous of Franks teeth game
He wasn’t a fan of the hi pitch voice.
As a casual listener, I didn't like Nikes too. But, when I listened to the album again and became a Frank fan and only then did I appreciate it

The chimpmunk voice man. First time i listened to this song i had to double check if it was a joke or nah

He made endless so that his contract obligations to def jam would end. Def jam owns endless, Frank owns Blonde. One of the reasons why Frank likes Blonde more
OG Rod well no. frank liked blond more in the first place which is probably why he released endless first..
asdfadfad "I got two versiiioons" is basically all it means.
asdfadfad no its exactly why endless was dropped. To fulfill his contract so he could get out of it
OG Rod Endless is still good. "Wither" and that Jazmine Suillivan track are beautiful along with "Rushes".
I know this is a year later but the video and album art was an endless staircase that was built in a room with a ceiling signifying that he had limitless opportunities as a musician but his label (metaphorically the ceiling) kept him from his creative freedom. I personally like Endless a LOT and still listen to it until this day.

Makes sense that it sounds like Radiohead cause Johnny Greenwood himself worked on it. Managed the strings section I belive.
You Know The Album Is Good When People Are Complaining That You Gave it a 8
Blonde is nothing more than a collection of mediocre songs with simplistic melodies and uninspired lyrics. I simply cannot understand how anyone could find such banal and derivative work to be worthy of praise.

PUNNY FANDA easily my favorite off of blond
Seigfried just gives you that feel everytime it transitions into the violin that just makes your entire mood change
landon merlo thank jonny greenwood of Radiohead for that
Chills when those strings come in
Yeah seriously. The guitar part makes it feel like there’s gonna be a hype beat or something, but then this huge wave of strings ebbs and flows. It’s my favorite track

Thinkin Bout You has got to be the most overrated Frank song. Pyramids is great though.
I'm shocked you only dedicated 10 seconds to talk about Nights - arguably the best song on the album.
Ikr!!!!
The transition between the two songs is cool because you think oh now it’s over then it goes into the electric guitar and the more relaxed section.

Your review is awesome. I didn't realize he'd given The Beatles acknowledgement, but in White Ferrari, there's a line where he sings "Spending each day of the year" to the same melody that The Beatles did to the same line from "Here, There, and Everywhere." Super subtle, but beautiful.

This album is drugs. Like it straight up alters my mind when I listen to it and that "Nikes" intro track sets the stage for that with the over-long high pitched vocals. It feels like it throws my mind off balance to prepare me for the rest of the crazy sonic journey of the album. So goddamn good.
So we not gon talk about how Andre fucking bodied his 1 minute and 30 second song
bruh. he literally talks about it at 5:15
And at 12:30
it takes about 10 full listens with studio headphones / speakers to fully grasp all the intricacies in the production
You're so right. It's like a Beatles record, it takes so many listens to get your head around it.
Forcing yourself to like it...

I was joking, i have done this on countless albums where i have to listen to it about 3-5 times to full grasp it and just enjoy the production.
the layering in his vocals are very good, beatles inspired?

CJ Eastt I'm not the biggest fan of blond but to me channel orange is just as good as any of those
This album has been out for almost exactly 3 years, and has not lost its shine whatsoever. I daresay its bloomed and become a more refined record compared to other R&B albums released in recent years. Our boy, Franky Ocean, has shown that his talent is beyond solid and he is a name to be remembered into this generation's old age. He has etched his name in a beautiful and existential foundation of incredible music.

There are 2 different versions of Blond, the other being “Blonde”, the entire album has a theme of duality. The music video for Nikes is much different from the streamable song itself, for example. The songs about doing drugs and the songs about not doing drugs are an example of the duality, along with the idea of being young and the idea of being an adult, talking about being bipolar, and so many other little examples in and about the album. The fact that his hair is green and the title is “blond” shows that he uses blond as a feeling, rather than a color. The line “you cut your hair, but you used to live a blonded life” makes no sense, unless you take the meaning as a feeling, rather than a color. Blond almost seems to follow the theme of youth, like nostalgia ultra did. A lot of people seem to miss the duality idea, and as a result are confused by the album.

As someone who listens to a variety of genres and musicians of varying popularity, but without a doubt loves Elliott Smith more than any other artist (and that will likely never change), I was really touched when I heard the reference to 'Fond Farewell'. There's always this heartfelt feeling when someone references Elliott, like I'm assured that his legacy is living on and continually impacting the music scene.

I mainly listen to Indie and Lo-Fi, or ambient music ( like Sigur Ros, The XX or Eels etc ) and i loved this album, the simplicity of it and the demo-like feel to some songs and these little skits like Be Yourself and Facebook Story are like poetry to my ears, relaxing and soothing. I really loved Good Guy and Ivy. I do get that you wouldnt play this kind of a record at a party or something but i do not like the type you would play at events anyways.. When i listen to music i usually walk, or draw etc.
Maybe just you. I'd like to think an individual can cultivate a taste for emotionally and intellectually disparate art. Occasionally I enjoy mindless music - music that moves me more physically than mentally; sometimes I need to be challenged intellectually. It's not a "strokes for folks" issue. We should have receptors for all Great Art, whether cerebral or physical.
You just don't love music like we do, i listen to music for the feeling not the hype.
Fun Fact: In track white Ferrari “spending each day of the year” is from a song ‘Here, there and everywhere’ by Beatles on album Revolver. Which is why Beatles is on Blond feature list.
Nights is straight 🔥🔥🔥 bruh

Blond is the kind of album that defines a new era in music. Definitely a major influence on a lot of emerging artists.
This nigga said Nikes was his least favorite track...................... blocked
onlycec
I mean let's keep it 100. Nike is probably the worst song on this album fam, but that being said the songs are so damn good that Nike being the worse still means it is fuckin amazing.
Untold Legacy Nikes is amazing especially the last bit
Kedine Peart never said it wasn't i said it was the worst song on the album. Doesnt make it bad especially since the album is a masterpiece. It's like Michael Jackson thriller album like all the songs on there are great but For All Time is the worst song on the album Imo. I still fuckin love that song but it just doesn't stack up to the others
one of my favorite albums ever, when I'm 80 imma put this shit on for my grandkids
I’ll put this on and Minecraft volume alpha lol
