@Ash Williams Mistarefusion mentions during the end credits that there'll only be 2 EP for the cell arc. Listen to the ending signoff all the way through.
You ignored the elephant in the room with the driver's incense thing: 1. Toriyama drew a picture of Chi-chi driving a car with Goku and Chi-chi in wedding clothes. 2. Chi-chi was clearly seen driving a car to Kame House in the Saiyan arc. 3. In the Garlic Jr. saga, the Son family was shown to have an airplane in their garage Simply, Chi-chi should already have a car AND be able to drive it, so this whole thing makes no sense. There's an inconsistency with cars as well, Japan is a right-hand-drive country where driver's seats are typically on the right side of cars, but Toriyama always draws cars as left-hand-drive. In the driver's license episode, the cars are right-hand-drive.
I don't think it's appropriate or fair in most cases to count title page images as part of the story. Were that the case, Goku could drive literally anything since so many of them are Goku on vehicles, not to mention all of the other outlandish and incompatible things title pages present. Outside of that, yes, you are correct that Chichi has been shown to be able to drive, and, as I point out later in the episode, Toriyama's version of their house has a car parked outside. That said, since we had only seen Chichi drive prior to this, I think there is a degree of fairness in her wanting Goku to learn that skill. Yes, it is a bit of an oddity that she is shown to have to walk home from grocery shopping. That the conflict is predicated on that is certainly an inconsistency. But given everything else I had (and still have to) talk about, it just didn't feel worth it to me to get deeper into it than I already was.
If I’m allowed to comment if think people see this as the best filler episode because their view of dragon ball is mainly fighting, so they find this bizarre and interesting but for fans of toriyama’s other works this is kind of his style ?
@@MistareFusion you know I appreciate the respond you give to viewers. To people that ahve good points in general. If I ever get financially stable I got u on patron
I guess, considering how happy Super is to destroy Goku's house, it is sorta odd that they didn't do similar for Z and just explain the multiple designs away as "Oh, Goku destroyed the last one".
I feel like the very nature of Capsule very conveniently explains the house inconsistencies in a complete manner, and it is stunning that a channel so demonstrably knowledgeable about the source material didn't point this out.
Well, that's the thing. If I'm only using that demonstrable knowledge of the source material, that's the reason why I wouldn't point that out. Perhaps it's my own fault for saying "Capsule-style house" or whatever I said here rather than simply "dome-shaped" because, while I was only describing the shape, the former implies some form of Capsule functionality. There is no reason to assume any of these can revert to Capsules, no evidence at all. As such, while it's certainly possible within the world, asserting so would not be using demonstrable knowledge but pure speculation. We see rounded architecture all over the Dragon World in buildings we never see reduced to particles (including the Capsule Corporation headquarters itself), while we see houses not at all in that architectural style that do have Capsule functionality. There is no connection between the style of house and its ability to become a Capsule.
What makes the Driving episode even funnier is since I was able to get my driver’s licence on the first try. It’s hilarious seeing Goku and Piccolo perform that badly on their first try since they are new at driving. XD
I struggled a lot as well kinda' like Goku and Piccolo for my driver's licence on the first try...it took me four times to eventually get it ! Also, the country where I come from clearly isn't one of the easiest to get it to begin with IMO, so there's that too TBH :/
@@798jeremy Dude relax, I only meant it as a joke. Pluss I spent 2 to 3 years practicing Driving before finally taking my driving test, and failed once during my written test. So It was only because I spent that much time practicing that I got it on the first go. Pluss I known other people that didn’t succeed on their first try. So don’t take it personal okay?
I'm surprised you didn't mention the scene where Vegeta goes Super Saiyan for the first time. Whereas Toriyama made it so that the transformation happened completely off-screen, in the anime, we actually get to see a flashback to when that happened. They easily could've gotten the cheap route and just make Vegeta go Super Saiyan when fighting Turles or some new lame filler villain, but instead, his transformation is quite unlike anything we've seen from other Saiyans: he doesn't transform because he gets furious at an enemy, he transforms because he gets furious at HIMSELF for his own perceived weakness and inability to keep up with Kakarotto. I've always thought this was really fantastic and profound, this really helps emphasize who Vegeta is as a character and also showcase that his crippling insecurity combined with his stern self-discipline might actually aid him instead of harming him when put to productive use. Absolutely one of my favorite anime additions
Are you referring to me not mentioning the specific motivation? Because I do talk about the anime adding visuals of that. I didn't mention the motivation because the motivation is straight from the dialogue in the manga. All the anime does is add a visualization of it.
@@MistareFusion Oh no, you replied to a comment that I left before finishing the video and now my hastiness is up there for all to see! But yes, you did mention that after all, and I think the dialogue from the manga carries much more weight with the visuals present. But now I remember something that you didn't actually mention when talking about the Kame House parts: during the island fights, Roshi reminisces about the good old days when he was the world's greatest martial artist, only for Oolong to snap him out of it by reminding him that it was long ago and doesn't matter anymore. I always thought this was kind of punching down, because it was clear Toriyama wasn't going to bring Roshi back into relevancy any time soon at that point, so anime rubbing it in everyone's face feels somewhat sad.
@@MistareFusion Ah MistareFusion, speaking of the Cell arc version of the Cha-La Head-Cha-La opening, did you know that some screenshots from that version (like Vegeta turning into a Super Saiyan, Super Saiyan Trunks, and the final group shot with Goku turning into Super Saiyan) were used in Dragon Ball Z's original Rock the Dragon English dub opening from the first two dub seasons, even though I find that Funimation would use footage from that version of Japanese opening early into the English dub early because during the Saiyan and early Freeza arc episodes that were dubbed from 1996 to 1998, Goku and Vegeta would definitely not be Super Saiyans by that point and Trunks didn't show up until the beginning of the Cell arc and yet those Cell arc opening clips were used in initial English dub opening. Don't you find that weird?
@@superstitch5618 Yep, that's the opening I was referring to. And, yes, it was always weird... but at the time kind of exciting. English DB fandom was always a piecemeal experience, a constant barrage of being inundated with things you didn't understand and wouldn't be exposed to for years to come.
Not gonna lie I always assumed the Vegeta training episode wasn't filler. It feels like an essential piece. The driving episode feels like filler even without reading the Manga. I think that might be why it's not as highly regarded in the community because people don't see it as filler or just don't know. Unlike the driving episode which everyone knows is filler.
yeah like, I didn't know the ending part of the frieza arc actually showing Porunga grant the wishes and having vegeta go to space were anime-only until pretty recently. Now that I do, I appreciate those parts way more
Just wanted to say. I'm really happy seeing you cover the anime version of this arc, grownup up. This was my favorite arc when I first seen Dragon Ball's anime first before the manga. I honestly thought I would have to wait until you finished the manga version of the Buu arc. Seeing switch here, made me excited! So, thank you for this and all future videos of this arc and later Buu arc videos.
In Brazil, when DBZ was aired in Cartoon Network, the opening used was the Androids' one. I only learned there were other openings when I became an adult and coincidentaly met it on TH-cam. So, yeah: on the first episode i was already spoiled there would be a Super Sayan até some point.
Yep, while the American opening was largely made of footage from the show (and movies) themselves, the title shot was the cast group from the third variant. Also, when FUNimation first started putting out bilingual DVDs, the early ones only used the third variant, even if it was from earlier in the series. It was quite annoying.
I had always assumed the change in houses in the anime was Chi Chi wanting a redesign and Goku redesigned it during the 3 years between Freeza and the Androids.
I’m so glad someone else noticed how big Goku looked during the driving episode. He looked like a 6’5” bodybuilder. Either that or the instructor was a literal dwarf
It also canonized the Garlic Jr. saga (to an extent) for anime watchers, which then makes the Dead Zone movie, as well as all the movies featuring Icarus canon to the series.
After a long ass day at school, this was just the thing I needed. Love your videos man! Seriously watching these inconsistencies be discussed was fun as hell.
Nice episode! I guess I'll have to wait for you to talk about the production next, which is honestly my favourite part about this every time Can't wait to hear about studio cockpit and that random studio that did one episode in the middle of the goku Vs cell battle that looked absolutely horrible and then never appeared EVER again
I see the new video posted and think “cool I’ve always wanted a nice analysis of this part of the anime”, MF then proceeds to go into a nice tangent about the Son house, that’s why I love this channel.
Getting old is preferring someone who talks about houses designs over multiplicating made up numbers and if those numbers make sense when comparing to another made up numbers
Now that I think about it I'm surprised you didn't mention it at the last DBD TV, but another thing I really enjoyed about the anime is that they added the touch of Piccolo ordering Vegeta to stop when attacking Gohan. While I'm not entirely sure it was intentional, the change not only made Piccolo's power-up feel less wasted as he was the person virtually in charge of protecting the Earth, but also made Vegeta not conquering the planet make more sense.
Mistarefusion: omg I do not care about all the damn intricate details of power levels, it’s boring and it put me to sleep while researching it and it almost made me quit Also mistarefusion: I will spend hours of research on Goku’s house and how it was near goku’s original house in this shot and not this shot and then this time had not one but TWO SPHERES, there was a garage this time but not here….. 🤪😂😂
While it obviously wasn't intentional, one could explain away most of the house inconsistencies with Capsule Corp technology. It's entirely possible that the entire home is a modular setup, and they felt like rearranging or swapping out capsules from time to time.
Even if it makes no sense, the first nightmare with goku and 17/18 is horrifying and chilling enough that it makes up for the logic. I mean they come in, kill chi chi and gohan, and iirc trunks as well, while goku isn’t even able to do anything to stop them, even as his family is being killed in front of him. And then they hover over him, ready to kill him, and we’ll…I don’t think I need to explain why the concept of seeing someone about to kill you but having physically no way to stop it is horrifying. So yeah the emotions of the scene make up for the logic.
Funnily enough, the name “Mount Paozu” has become so ingrained into the Dragon Ball mythos that-unless I’m mistaken, since this is from the VIZ translation of that series-it was actually referenced in Toyotarou’s Dragon Ball Super during Goku’s battle with Jiren. “My heart’s as calm as the streams of Mount Paozu.”
That nightmare that Gohan has about Goku turning into Freeza always sticks to me more so in the legacy of goku 2 game. Much more memorable there than in the anime imo.
The house issue could be explained by just saying that Goku and Chichi transform sections of the house into capsules and bring out different parts from capsules whenever they want to make changes.
The driving episode is great, up until Piccolo and Goku have to save a bus full of people and struggle to save a bus full of people in a thunder storm.
12:07 ...maybe ChiChi kept having different ideas on where, what and how she wanted her home to be? I mean, if it's partially made of 'capsule' housing, then maybe those are easier to move around with Capsules than the traditional japanese constructions? Actually, that's probably why Toriyama initially did it (or because it's easier to draw), but yeah, there's a lot of miscommunication.
After getting a bit burned by the length of the Frieza fight, and my mother complaining about the violence in the cartoons I was watching during the mornings. (despite the fact that my mother also watched the news every morning that also included the 9/11 attacks that happened in 2001 a year later after she yelled at me during the Frieza arc I was trying to watch) It was the Goku and Piccolo driving episode that got me back into watching Dragon Ball Z again after a short boycott my mother forced me into. I was a teenager at the time, and my mother didn't want me to be a violent person, but thankfully I saw through the BS that the news media was trying to feed into her and rebelled by watching the anime on morning TV I wanted to watch again. Thus the Goku and Piccolo driving episode restored my interest into the Dragon Ball series and perfect timing for the Android and Cell arcs.
I think Goku's proportions were so off in that driving episode because that was coming off Goku's initial SS transformation where they made him so fucking buff because... Super Saiyan. I guess Seigasha wanted to be consistent with those proportions but outside of a dramatic fight like the one on Namek, it really doesn't work lol
wonder if the thing of this "driver license episode" be considered "best filler ever" have some influence of what people consider filler... back then, I didn't have idea about the need of those episodes to buy some time, so the mangá, could release more chapters, and they have more content to adapt... so, first time I heard the word "filler" in the anime context, I thought was specifically about those episodes where the characters engage in activits that have absolutely nothing to do with the main plot (like a side quest in video-games)... maybe the fillers with Vegeta are so well integrate with the story, and the development of his future relationship with Bulma, that some people didn't even seen as fillers initially just thought, because I didn't, XD ... only after I knew how fillers really works, I start to notice some things I didn't know were fillers, actually were
If anything I think a filler episode about Chi-Chi taking Goku and Gohan with her to a cooking class would've been a more fascinating filler episode than the driving one.
You know something? I actually like that idea of yours! Chi-Chi taking her boys to a cooking class probably Would have been a great filler ep! And what's more, Chi-Chi dragging Goku & Gohan with her would probably be funny there! Perhaps Chi-Chi's gripe on why she's dragging them to learn to cook should be: "We never spend time as a family and I'm getting sick of making meals for you!" I think at first, disasters would be abound but in the end, Goku & Gohan pass with flying colors and make a great meal yet things are pyrrhic as Chi-Chi is left to do all the dishes while Goku & Gohan sneak off to train! (Maybe Gohan uses his homework hastle as an excuse to get out of cleaning up!)
Getting with Vegeta is the best thing that happened to Bulma (at least as a concept). Personally, I couldn't stand her bitching and being mean to people who 9/10 times didn't deserve it. Vegeta, even at his tamest, is still an ass who deserves a bit of yelling and forces Bulma into the role of a grown-up. And it's done without making Vegeta look bad either. I would go as far as say that Bulma is the only character in Dragon Ball Super that I consider an unquestionable improvement over the original series. She's useful and intelligent but still entitled and bossy enough to be flawed and entertaining.
When I first started watching your videos it seemed to me that you didn't even like dragon ball and just loved to rip it to pieces but as I continued to watch I realized I was wrong and you do have love for the series. Your vast knowledge of this show is impressive

3. In the Garlic Jr. saga, the Son family was shown to have an airplane in their garage
Simply, Chi-chi should already have a car AND be able to drive it, so this whole thing makes no sense.
What always has bothered me is that Chi-Chi never tried to use Kintoun instead of a car or any other vehicle.
The anime implies that it's her father's car.
10:22 - NO, it's not the same! The mountain peaks are different! Heck the second mountain is moved more to the right in the Anime scene.
Clicked on the notification immediately - DBD/ DBDTV never disappoints!
Clearly the Son family house is just in the middle of transforming like its residents.
Yes I've been waiting for the Son family house discussion for years now
Gohans tutor: "LEARN LEARN LEARN LEARN LEARN!!!!"
Without a doubt, Dragonball Z Kai definitely did something right by erasing that Shu subplot.
The house is a capsule. The Son family are nomads lol.
I guess, considering how happy Super is to destroy Goku's house, it is sorta odd that they didn't do similar for Z and just explain the multiple designs away as "Oh, Goku destroyed the last one".
When he made Goten he destroyed it
I feel like the very nature of Capsule very conveniently explains the house inconsistencies in a complete manner, and it is stunning that a channel so demonstrably knowledgeable about the source material didn't point this out.
@@MistareFusion Now THAT's more like it! =]
What a wonderful amount of inconsistencies about Goku's house.
@@MistareFusion So basically, it's the early English dub's equivalent of foreshadowing for what's to come for the series in a way?
...Okay, but could we actually get a "top 10 filler episode/moments" at some point? I genuinely think it'd be interesting to hear your thoughts here.
must've been fun to dust off the cell arc opening again lol
I guess it wasn't practical to recreate the line of Cell forms, though...
Gohan’s nightmare where Goku becomes Frieza was turned into the first boss fight for Legacy of Goku 2 (for GBA)
- "The house slowly morphs...!" xD jajaja fun.
Yes, I think anime handled Vegeta better here too.
Now that I do, I appreciate those parts way more
Yes, if filler is relevant to the story, it won't feel like filler.
Huh, you really won't let Goku's magically changing house go, will you?
Just wanted to say. I'm really happy seeing you cover the anime version of this arc, grownup up. This was my favorite arc when I first seen Dragon Ball's anime first before the manga.
I honestly thought I would have to wait until you finished the manga version of the Buu arc. Seeing switch here, made me excited! So, thank you for this and all future videos of this arc and later Buu arc videos.
Next Video where did Piccolo Live before the Lookout. And Why you should be Obsessed with it.
What? He lived in Good Ol' Wasteland don't you know
In Brazil, when DBZ was aired in Cartoon Network, the opening used was the Androids' one. I only learned there were other openings when I became an adult and coincidentaly met it on TH-cam.
So, yeah: on the first episode i was already spoiled there would be a Super Sayan até some point.
Same thing for germany
Same for the English and Spanish (Latin American) versions which aired.
Yep, while the American opening was largely made of footage from the show (and movies) themselves, the title shot was the cast group from the third variant. Also, when FUNimation first started putting out bilingual DVDs, the early ones only used the third variant, even if it was from earlier in the series. It was quite annoying.
Ocean Dub
I had always assumed the change in houses in the anime was Chi Chi wanting a redesign and Goku redesigned it during the 3 years between Freeza and the Androids.
This is the only dragon ball videos that spends more time on dragon ball houses instead of the fighting
Thank you for including the Veggie Back-breaker in your beginning montage at 0:22
I’m so glad someone else noticed how big Goku looked during the driving episode. He looked like a 6’5” bodybuilder. Either that or the instructor was a literal dwarf
The ironic part of Maron's departure from the series was that it was around the same time that 18 kisses Krillin, starting that relationship.
It also canonized the Garlic Jr. saga (to an extent) for anime watchers, which then makes the Dead Zone movie, as well as all the movies featuring Icarus canon to the series.
Could that have been the real-life reason _why_ Maron was dropped from the show?
@@BagOfMagicFood I think that's a bit of a stretch, but anything is possible.
@@jaybee27D The Icarus part eh... not really it would be the same as saying that every movie that features Piccolo is canon cause he's in the anime.
@@MsDarkz123 well I suppose you're right, not every movie featuring Icarus. But at least the movie that introduced him, Tree of Might.
This is the first dragon ball arc I watched on DVD it was on the bad orange bricks but I still enjoyed it
Oh Cell saga opening music, how I've missed you
I love you Mistarefusion!!!
Excited for donkey Kong dissection as well
After a long ass day at school, this was just the thing I needed. Love your videos man! Seriously watching these inconsistencies be discussed was fun as hell.
OOOuuuf that Unmei no Hi with the DBD Cell Saga intro gave me chills. I'm happy to have followed you through the years. :)
Nice episode!
I guess I'll have to wait for you to talk about the production next, which is honestly my favourite part about this every time
Can't wait to hear about studio cockpit and that random studio that did one episode in the middle of the goku Vs cell battle that looked absolutely horrible and then never appeared EVER again
I see the new video posted and think “cool I’ve always wanted a nice analysis of this part of the anime”, MF then proceeds to go into a nice tangent about the Son house, that’s why I love this channel.
Never cared about minor inconsistencies like this. Always waved them away as too minor to care about.
I have been waiting so long for you to do the TV Cell Saga!
But this was definitely worth the wait,
Can't wait for the next part!
It finally happen i watch a Video of Someone Analyzing Goku House. And Surprisingly i wasn't Bored
New Dragon Ball Dissection that I get to watch first thing while I drink my coffee? Today's gonna be a good one!
Mistarefusion: omg I do not care about all the damn intricate details of power levels, it’s boring and it put me to sleep while researching it and it almost made me quit
Also mistarefusion: I will spend hours of research on Goku’s house and how it was near goku’s original house in this shot and not this shot and then this time had not one but TWO SPHERES, there was a garage this time but not here….. 🤪😂😂
While it obviously wasn't intentional, one could explain away most of the house inconsistencies with Capsule Corp technology. It's entirely possible that the entire home is a modular setup, and they felt like rearranging or swapping out capsules from time to time.
2:35 Please make a top ten anime filler episodes list!
I see you with the subtle not so subtle Diss on vegeta in the preview images
Funnily enough, the name “Mount Paozu” has become so ingrained into the Dragon Ball mythos that-unless I’m mistaken, since this is from the VIZ translation of that series-it was actually referenced in Toyotarou’s Dragon Ball Super during Goku’s battle with Jiren.
“My heart’s as calm as the streams of Mount Paozu.”
That nightmare that Gohan has about Goku turning into Freeza always sticks to me more so in the legacy of goku 2 game. Much more memorable there than in the anime imo.
holy shit seeing this intro again is sorta nostaglic
I know it isn’t canon, but I love how the abridged series elaborated how Trunks was conceived.
Maybe Sayians are dream psychics .
As always, I love your insights into the show.
Also, I am LOVING Donkey Kong Dissection XD
Thank you! I myself am very much looking forward to the next Donkey Kong Dissection.
(despite the fact that my mother also watched the news every morning that also included the 9/11 attacks that happened in 2001 a year later after she yelled at me during the Frieza arc I was trying to watch)
It was the Goku and Piccolo driving episode that got me back into watching Dragon Ball Z again after a short boycott my mother forced me into.
The SSJ transformation didn't make Goku buff. It doesn't increase body mass. He was already shown to be bulky when he arrived to Namek.
wonder if the thing of this "driver license episode" be considered "best filler ever" have some influence of what people consider filler...
back then, I didn't have idea about the need of those episodes to buy some time, so the mangá, could release more chapters, and they have more content to adapt...
so, first time I heard the word "filler" in the anime context, I thought was specifically about those episodes where the characters engage in activits that have absolutely nothing to do with the main plot (like a side quest in video-games)...
maybe the fillers with Vegeta are so well integrate with the story, and the development of his future relationship with Bulma, that some people didn't even seen as fillers initially
just thought, because I didn't, XD ... only after I knew how fillers really works, I start to notice some things I didn't know were fillers, actually were

Let's make that top 10!
The Son family doing anything together would've been a massive W tbh

So... You dropped the ball? Dropped... the... ball?
20:39 y'know I must admit I never thought i'd see the day that you'd cite Super as a source of info without making any snide remarks lol
When I first started watching your videos it seemed to me that you didn't even like dragon ball and just loved to rip it to pieces but as I continued to watch I realized I was wrong and you do have love for the series. Your vast knowledge of this show is impressive
