How did you get it back out?
What if you take off the overflow plate and find out that the stuff that was supposed to be hooked to it had come off and likely fallen down into the pipe?
That bathtub overflow plate is certainly overdue for replacement. Lol

I cant get the assembly to come out so I can replace the plate. I'm about to pull the pin and let it drop. just cover it up. Don't use the lever anyway.
If you do that the tub stopper will block the drain.
