Next up we'll be having a look at the surrender in this province and interviewing a witness to that occasion.

I am visiting Dumaguete right now, and was happy to learn of the now fully paved road up to the Shrine. I reached it on motor scooter. Mr. Cata-al's museum is wonderful too. He's an incredible man!

The road that's paved isn't the one I did video on. That was the Japanese road. The one the 161st Combat Engineers made is still as rough as guts.

@@LesSharp yes I know, lol. I turned my scooter around and gave up on that road!

@@kevinsoundmixer there's another way going up to the shrine now. The road shown in the video isn't the official road.

@@hondafitter1075 correct, I drove up the newer, fully paved road. My rented motor couldn't go up the old WWII era road.

Thank you for your visit to the Shrine. Sadly it's not well maintained. 😓

It's better than nothing, and it's much better cared for than what's at Patag in Occidental.

Were you able to interview Lorenzo Cimafranca who was a Filipino Guerilla and the one who took the photo of the Japanese surrender in Zamboanguita?

I would love the opportunity. Not sure on how keen he is for that though, given his age.

@@LesSharp sadly he passed on a few years back. I was just wondering and hoping you had a chance to interview him. When they say that Dumaguete is the city of gentle people they are referring to fine folk like him. He used to tell me a lot of his war time stories including how he was the only Filipino that was at the surrender in Zamboanguita where he was attached to the 503rd as intelligence officer. The Japanese requested that they surrender only to an American force as they were worried about facing the Filipinos. Lorenzo who is of Chinese heritage did not look Filipino so the Americans allowed him to be at the surrender ceremony.
