Makes sense sine trees are legitimate big investments. They take decades to fully grow, make areas have cleaner oxygen, increase property value, & can be a person’s main source of income (fruit/paper/logging farms).

This law definitely helps the world. It takes decades to grow trees and the destruction of the hardwork would definitely demotivate people who want to grow them. That is twice as bad to the environment.

What did the ‘store manager’ think the end game was going to be? That corporate would just let registers for an entire store be down for an hour to accommodate her ego and lunch? No, you’re definitely going to be fired.

Not to mention I'm fairly confident what that manager was doing was CRAZY illegal! She was ALONE...in the server room...a room where all the store's most sensitive information and company/customer data is stored. She's lucky she only got fired for that. O.O

That our world would be so much more advanced if we had given women a chance. Never saw any of the lasses carry a 50kg bags of concrete on their backs, up and down improvised ladders, for 4 hours straight, both because they couldn't and they wouldn't.

@Dracolegacy, et al, the OP that was in the story was not suing for the damage to the trees per se, rather, he was simply getting the utility company to pay for damaging his fence, but the company said no, so he went for the jugular because the company was being unnecessarily mean to him when he was trying to be nice and civil to them initially. The point is that it is not about the lawsuit and the money, but, rather, it is about the principle of owning up to what you do in your life, taking personal accountability, and taking personal responsibility for your actions in your life.

I used to work summers for a carpenter when I was a teen and in my early 20's. Whenever I had to go to the local hardware store, there were two people that were worth asking for help: the store manager who had been there for decades and a lady that looked to be in her 30's and would ask for clarification if I used terminology she hadn't heard before. Excluding the manager, the only thing the male employees were good for was helping me load materials in my boss's truck. The other guys there had no clue to life what half the things you would ask for were and smile like jackasses and say it didn't exist. I remember going in one day for some materials and one of the guys was saying to an elderly couple that garden windows must not exist because he had never heard of them. I only remember this because a couple weeks later, my boss asked me to work half a weekend day to help him install a garden window in their kitchen.

Tbh it works both ways, it seems people assign genders to professions thinking they’re womanly or manly jobs so they expect to have that specific gender there & when they don’t they become super sexist, it’s beyond stupid, men & women can do any jobs, there’s no such things as womanly & manly jobs yet people are stuck in the past & still think that way. I wish the world would stop being such a hurtful hating place. When I went to culinary school years ago my professor on my first day said _”women, look around you, notice there’s more men here, this is a man’s job, be ready to be disrespected, harassed, told you can’t do your job as well as a man, etc. if you don’t have tough skin I suggest you leave now”_ & then he started the class, it blew me away, I had always dealt with that stuff because even before going to culinary school I worked in only kitchens however I was shocked a male professor so bluntly put it out there & in a smug manor nonetheless. I always found it funny when I a woman was told kitchen jobs are for men because you always hear “women belong in the kitchen” so if that’s the case than why is it considered a “man’s job”… again it’s all beyond stupid.

I'd get shocked looks and comments from delivery drivers from the brewery asking is I wanted to get one of the "lads" to check off and take the delivery (I'm talking several cases each of beer, cider, soft drinks and boxes of post mix syrup, aswell as several 22 and 11 gallon barrels of draught beer and cider) I'd always say no I'm good the boys are cleaning the bar, I'll sort this stock out. But it was the women managers from other departments, I worked a holiday resort, that just couldn't understand that I would be doing all the heavy lifting and the boys would be doing the cleaning.

It's a pretty male dominated field so I think women who work in such field must be especially interested and knowledgable to work at a place you'd usually expect a man. I had a similar experiance as the lady who worked at a Hardware store, except I worked at EB Games.
See, when I worked there, I not only was a gamer myself, I was dating a mega gamer and had left another gamer for said giga gamer (first guy was abusive, I wasn't just looking for a nerdier dude lol.)
So this man walks into the store and tells me he wants to talk to a male employee about the game MAG.
At the time it was my now fiance of nearly 12 years' favourite game. He had not only played the crap out of it, he platinumed the thing. I was more into RPGs and puzzle games, but I had watched him play it nearly the entire time. I was about to tell the customer my knowledge base, but he interrupted me to reiterate that he wanted to speak to a man. So I pointed out my male co-worker who didn't play many games at all.
The store was small so no mater where you were if you paid attention you would be in earshot. The other worker was tuning out everything to concentrate on putting cases away, so he had clearly not heard pur conversation, but I was listening to theirs.
The man asked him, and he got excited and said "ooh! let me get you Paranoiaprincess, she's the most knowledgeable gamer here!" I chuckled and the man came back to the counter, looking sheepish.
I explained what I knew about MAG.and how I knew it and the infor I gave him hyped him up a lot for the game. I didn't know it yet, but he didn't even have a PS3! So I went on, after our discussion, to sell him a PS3 and about 5 games. He said that all future visits would only be with me from then on, and he stuck to that. He wouldn't even come into the store if I wasn't working. 😂
Just goes to show, things like hardware, electronics, sports, and gaming are *NOT* gendered!

The last ones are too real. I worked in a hardware store throughout my 20s and had so many weird sexist encounters.
Nothing usually so blatant as outright asking for a man, but my favorite was always to see (or hear if it's on the phone) a customer go through an internal realization when they clearly WANT to ask for a man but also know doing so would be outright sexist.
So you're just waiting there with your retail smile while they try to unpack their biases and decide if they're going to a) straight up ask for a man b) formulate a less blatant way like asking for someone specific, or c) just let a girl help them with their lumber purchase.
Special shout out to the lady who thought "no offense but you don't LOOK like you work at customer service", the guy who incredulously wanted to know if my boyfriend was okay with me repairing our roof leak, and a special f-you to all those who condescendingly patted me on the shoulder if I didn't know the answer to something.

On the first story, yeah, I think that the utility that was in question was Pacific Gas and Electric Company and those scumbags have gotten sued a lot over the years for refusing to pay for damages that were related to wildfires. I am convinced that the first story was simply one of the lawsuits that was filed against them and those individual lawsuits that they had gotten usually end up being big class action lawsuits...and I thought that Comcast, EA, and Nintendo were horrible companies!

it would take many years to sell $1,000,000 worth of avocados, but if somebody wanted to replant new trees, how long would it take for the new trees to be ready to bear fruit? a decade if you're lucky. If one were to look at it, a million dollars actually could be considered reasonable here.

The first time I ever experienced sexism was when I was trying to get a job at GameStop at my local store where I grew up. I would recommend games as a customer that I had played. One time when I did that she pulled me aside saying I was belittling her suggestion because I backed her up because I was a man. I had applied and shown knowledge but never got an interview. When I moved cities I got an interview right away from a male store manager and landed the job immediately. When I went home to visit my old store she was shocked when I provided her an employee ID for my discount. I told her my store and we made way more money than her store and I personally did better than she did in sales and subs. I was only trying to help some one enjoy my favorite hobby not belittle any one's credit.

I work in aviation as an engineer.
We had a client whose airplane we managed and he was from one of the Arabic countries (i think Saudi Arabia... i am saying i think, because when he speaks he just mumbles so you have to ask 4 or 5 times him to repeat what he said and thorugh a phone its even worse...)
so at some point a girl joined our company. she had almost as much experience as me (tlaking about a few months difference) but it was in a slightly different area so i was "training" her on our exact part of the job and our best practices standards as well.
few months later (she was already quite acustomed to our ways) that guy's plane was transfered from me to her because i took up an entire project.
I called the guy up, i told him i am being reassigned, my calleague X is taking over. you can ask her whatever ou need, if there is a need for some historical knowledge i can always help and i actually sit in a desk right next to her so she can always turn to me. you are in good hands. He said ok and that was that.
Next day i receive an email adressed to me about the plane. It is a historical question about the plane so i think ok, i spend 2 hours looking into the rexords and manuals etc and i come up with our engineering judgement on the matter and add in the email "my colleague X agrees and confirms this". (i want to prop her up)
4 days later the same thing repeats. again it is historical so i again spend 4-5 hours and respond back.
next week a new email again, but that is regarding a new topic that has nothing with me. my colleague is happy i am responding because both of us are overwhelmed so she doesnt have to spend hours on that aircraft... but at the same time she gets annoyed for being ingored (neither of us is getting payed anything extra for working on another aircraft, so i am not stealling anything from her).
she asks me to tell him to stop asking me. I am leaving for my project the next day either way to the other side of the word so i do it.
next day i land after 16 hours of flying approximately and while waiting for immigration to clear me and my visa I get a call from that guy... i tell him the smae spiel my colleague, blabla, she can blabla, i am not in the office anymore blabla he apologises and we hang up.
another week and i get a microsoft teams invitation to a meeting with him for just 6 minutes ahead. i join in and he starts with questions that i know he has asked her already in emails.
now two points -1i have worked on that guy's plane for over 2 years so i know it well enough and 2- i am the guy to go for this type of plane in my company. X has worked with this type of plane for just about 3-4 months and always under me, BUT that guy doesnt know that.
I have my project i need to focuse on and at that point i have started to realise he doesnt want to work with her because she is female.
so he asks me about 8 questions at least 6 of which i remember reading on emails
So i tell him please wait a minute. I send an invitation to her to join our meeting. (btw it is work hours for both of them, but it is about 10:30 p, for me at my new project's location...)
she joins, he is surprised. i tell him she has the plane records in front of her and a few weeks have past that i havent touched that plane so she can help us on your questions. she doesnt really understand whats going on, but i am writting to her on the side to explain.
so he asks firsti question TO ME, i start and explain what needs to be done and then i turn to her and ask "X do you confirm or do you have something to add". i have written to her on the side what she needs to add and confirm.
we go through all the questions like that with her confirming my repsonses and adding things.
after that he has not come back to me for anything for over a month, even though in at least couple of emails she said that she needs to ask me because i am the lead type engineer for that type of aircraft.

It is really frustrating that big companies get away with so much because the average person can't afford a lawyer, or doesn't understand the process of finding a good one. The only reason they take these hard stances when they are clearly in the wrong is because they know that, in the majority of cases, they won't get sued

I've occasionally had to ask for help from a woman in a traditionally male role. My most extreme reaction has been a few eyeblinks and a small hesitation while I mentally berated my instinctive sexism before asking my question, but I'm still pleased to see that women don't have to limit themselves to "traditional" roles. More often, I manage to just blink once and then start asking my (sometimes quite technical) questions. I've had one or two women smile at that, I assume because I'm not being sexist.
Most of the time, they've been able to answer my questions.

Not truly related to the paint story but adjacent to it. I worked at small hardware store that had a paint department. For years we had trouble with people returning gallons of paint that was exactly what they asked for even when we tried to match colors as best we could. The problem was that husbands would make the trip to the hardware store with a paint sample that we would match as best we could. However this was small town, and the last hardware store had a different paint supplier than we did and so we couldn't just sell them the same color as it would be slightly different due to how the paint looked different between brands. But we would always give then options to find the best fit. They would make a decision, buy the paint and then their spouse would send them back as it wasn't the option that they would have chosen. This continued until we initiated a policy that husbands weren't allowed to buy paint without the wife's approval. I know that this sounds kind of sexist, but this cut down on returns by 75% immediately.

That last story is way too relatable for me. I’m almost 35 but I definitely still have a baby face and get mistaken for way younger, which as a woman usually means people are less likely to take you seriously, especially in a typically male dominated occupation. I worked at a hardware store making keys and re-keying locks. I was the best at the time and could run two old manual key machines at a time and every key always worked without fail. It’s not that hard really, but for some reason men and women thought I was incapable maybe because of my looks or my gender, I’ll never know. But every time they insisted on a man to make their keys 7/10 times they’d come back to have them remade because they didn’t work. And I was always more than happy to remake them correctly. Also that extra trip pissed them off, so that gave me have a little sadistic pleasure to see them realize their stupidity and see their frustration lol

You'd think that the store manager would care a LITTLE bit more about the fact that nobody can check out (thus costing the store who-knows-how-much money), than her lunch.
Like, "Oh, if I delay my lunch for 15 minutes, we'll keep selling and making money, but if I demand that the IT guy wait for me to finish my entire lunch break, then ALL the customers in the store will walk out angry, and go elsewhere for their product, because they can't check out? Too bad! NOTHING gets between me and my lunch!"
The IT guy didn't even say, "You can't have your lunch break now." He said, "You'll have to delay the lunch break, OR take it somewhere else." I'm sure she could eat elsewhere, just once. GEEZ.
    No wonder she got fired.

I want to feel bad for the store manager, but I can’t. Her job is to see that the store runs smoothly and maintains profitability. For her convenience she was willing to shut down the registers for an hour, without even shutting down the store. The damage she would have done to current and future sales is probably somewhere in the “horrifying” section, all for an ego trip. The district manager made the right call.

The day when anyone working in retail can just flat-out deny Karens their services for harassment over sexist remark couldn't come any sooner than when any other Karen walks into any store and tries to boss the employees around. Nothing as forceful as trying to have them trespassed, just stop responding to what they say and don't even acknowledge their presence. And if they decide to go physical, they should get hosed down with the hot sauce, which I think any store manager/owner should provide to all their employees by default. Any retail chain that doesn't implement any such policy should be boycotted.

First ask her what her annual salary was, guess would be she would not say, then tell her what my salary was and the fact I make this because MY DEPARTMENT is on the corporate level and keeps the stories running. The second way I would have handled this was to say really? You want to talk to my boss? That is not a very good idea, then make that call.

I hear my female coworker talking and walk in to see her with a grizzled looking man. "FINALLY! a man that can help!" He exclaims. I look at my coworker and she just rolls her eyes and gives up. Turns out he wanted directions to the government building in town. "Let me look that..." my coworker slides over the map she had that had the location circled, the route drawn and the hours and phone number written already. 😑 i give this to him and he has the audacity to say, "this is why women shouldn't work!" Ugh. I told him to leave.

I want to put some numbers on the store manager story, at a supermarket a large middle class family can easily spend minimum £100+ ($130+) on a weekly shop that can go through the register in about 3-5 minutes. Lunchtime or mid afternoon is one of the busier parts of the day too. In a big store you can get 10-15 checkouts, not counting the cafe and self service. They asked tech guy to wait an hour. In that time they lose on the low end £1200 ($1500) in sales, Ignoring the casheer and tech guy's wages, any revinue lost from delivery problems this causes, issues with customer satisfaction and any other losses caused by delaying tech guy's next job. I'd estimate she was asking tech guy to be fired while he was saving the company easily £5000.

She is bombarded with comments about her weight, her methods, how she is doing a bad job, how she is wrong, how her Doctor is wrong, and some even giving outdated and Very Dangerous advice.
I remember a reddit story of a woman who was a first time mom and listened to her doctor when they say to avoid alcohol. Her mother chided her, saying her doctor didnt know anything. Then made the remark that she drank during her pregnancy and that OP turned out just fine. Then the OP remarks that she was born severely underweight, premature, and with many health issues. You could practically hear OP's eye rolling at her mother's comment. "Yeah mom. Sure. I turned out Just Fine."

That last one reminded me of a story from when I was in BCT during covid. TLDR at bottom
So about 3 months before the covid outbreak I decided to join the national guard to do something with my life having no idea of the shit storm that would hit 2020. After 3 months of RSP I finally fly down to fort sill Oklahoma where my initial processing takes about a week after getting my round of vaccinations, I had a negative reaction to getting all the vaccines in me at once and was of course put into military quarantine because back then sore throat headache and fever = Covid so i was part of the second group in fort sill history to be quarantined. Besides being trapped in a bay with only 3 other sick dudes and only having an hour of light exercise outside it wasn't that bad we were even told we were given some card and board games (2 weeks in and we got a tv) we didn't have our phones nor could we write to our families so to not cause panic over us being quarantined so for the first 2 weeks we were really just chilling as more people got put into quarantine. a female quarantined bay was directly under us and was a lot more Rowdy and such and had a few more problems than our bay did while beside a few bad apples in our bay we mostly got along all together a guy who was the son of a pastor was nicknamed Chaplin and would do some church services sometimes. anyways one day we do line up and were standing in formation the DS was told to be nice to us and not to yell at us since a lot of us were actually sick with something. we would do lineups separate from the females after giving us some news and asking what supplies we needed and this and that the DS gave us this gem. "Trainees we know that this isn't an issue in your bay but I am still required to tell you this." Looking at all of us he continued. "There has been an issue with trainees Cuddling in bunks and also Making racist remarks don't do this." this prompted a bit of chuckling amongst the quarantined after he finished being asked if we had any questions my smart as raised my hand. "Yeah trainee what is it." going into attention and in the most serious voice i could muster i asked "Does that mean no more racist cuddle parties Drill Sargent?" to which everyone started dying laughing It became an inside joke along with Chalky Milk.
TLDR During Quarantine in BCT girls made it so we couldn't have Racist Cuddle parties. Fort Sill 2020 Baby

Between the pain meds not working right because of another medication I was on and not being able to open my eyes properly (the topical cream I’ve been using has strong fumes that make my eyes water) the only distraction I’ve had is listening to these videos. Thanks for keeping me going!

The best paint desk person I've dealt with was a woman, who also just so happened to be going to the states best art program. You know those scanners at Sherwin-Williams that can match any color, even from a flower petal, well she didnt need one.

At this point you just need "Don't mess with the IT guy" merch
I can just see it now, a tasteful small R/ logo on the front of a hoodie with "Don't mess with the IT guy" on the back

I can actually understand the Karen in the paint story. Not that discrimination of any kind is right but I go to home depot and Lowes a lot and know some stores sell out of certain products faster than others and the site/app might not be up to date due to a variety of reasons (as should be common knowledge). Heck I've almost learned to pick out what the delivery dates are and what some of the codes they blare over the speakers are.
