I have an 87 Cabriolet, and have rebuilt the dash, heater controls and now have to pull the heather core to replace a blown heather hose at the firewall. It's a PITA
Have my dash tore apart and will not come out, I did mention dash might be attached to the knee bar, looks like that dash has been out before. How do you get to those screws
Great video. Just bought an 84 convertible rabbit, and the Odometer counts intermittently. Speedo/gas gauge/oil gauge all operational. Have you seen or heard of issues with the odometer sticking?
Great Job on the videos. I am also working on a Mk1 convertible/cabriolet. It is a 1980 but has had the dash from the later models. What are you doing with the hvac parts you will be removing? I may be in need of the ducting that runs from the heater box to the dash vents. I’m just outside Vancouver, BC
Thank you! I will most likely be removing everything. The side vents only blow fresh air, not heated or cooled. I'm debating wether I keep those or not, but being convertible I have all the fresh air I need haha. I'll keep you posted, I can send the ducts your way if I don't use them.
Thanks for the help! :) I'm working on a 1990 Cabriolet. Just checking in, what bulb replacements did you find for the center console? I can find the instrument cluster bulbs but having a real hard time finding the center console bulbs.
My pleasure! The VDO gauge lights are tricky. In stock form, the bulbs are soldered into the connector. MK1Autohaus sells connectors with replaceable bulbs, however they're out of stock currently. My plan was to get those and put small LED's in
Hey man. I appreciate the video. One question. I have the dash completely loose. It is getting stuck where the vents were. Feels really tight. Any clue what could be holding it?
The side vents are loose. It is the center vent area that is stuck. I removed those. It feels rock solid tight. I didn't see anything that would be keeping it from coming out.
@@peelingtime2518 It could possibly be the heat controls. They're two screws I believe that hold it to the dash. It could also be screws underneath the dash, right where above the kneebar. They can be abit of a pain to get to
I disconnected and blocked off the coolant lines going to the heater core, all the ac lines, compressor and condenser. Then I removed the heater core itself along with the entire assembly to direct air, it's a big black plastic box behind the center console and the stuff under the hood under the rain tray. I also removed the ducts going to the vents.
Hi from the UK. Great work on the videos. I just got a '92 cab as well, so I'll be following your progress.

Thanks for this! I am working on an 87’ cabriolet and the light is out at the oil pressure gauge. Thanks again!
Same here. It's wild, removing the dash to remove the kneebar to remove the center console to replace a light. I'm definitely refitting with LEDs.
Thanks for this! Working on an 82 ABA swapped Cabby and the wiring is jacked so I need to get the dash out.

Have you got a video on installing stereo? Picked up a mk1 jetta last month and I'm not sure what stereo I can put in.
Hey. By any chance do you have any of the AC/Heat part still im In AZ Ac is life. Thanks good luck on the build.
Very simple! Thanks man 😃
Thank you brother
Thanks from Italy

Sounds good!!
Hey man! It's been awhile, but I decided I don't need the ducts, if you still want them shoot me a message and we can work something out!

the soundtrack is brutal, good explanation though
I want to swap my mk1 dash with a 1999 cabrio dash.think this will be an easy one?
99 is MK3, different platform all together. I've seen it done, it's possible, I don't think it would be easy though
Hey man. I appreciate the video. One question. I have the dash completely loose. It is getting stuck where the vents were. Feels really tight. Any clue what could be holding it?
Hey! Do you have the vents out? Maybe the ducts are caught on the vents.

Hey man, how and what did you remove to ditch the hvac stuff?

So what’s up with the car now ?
