My favorite line in this clip Van Gogh says “so little time left, so much more to paint”, it’s in reference to Kurosawa himself which still blows my mind to this day. (He was growing old by the time this movie was made and it’s his second to last). Such a masterpiece of a movie
That's indeed the existence of our journey (to elaborate more in general sense). We always wish somany things to accomplish. But end up getting frustrated on how little we have done! That's indeed the irony of all us. That life is short in just numbers. That we have not much time more to do all of them. I guess all we can do is to finish what we can do now (as many as you can done too). So yeah, it might not be "perfectly finish" but at least "finally well done". Just like what Benjamin Franklin said: "well done is better than well said".
Yes he was. He conceived that Vincent Van Gogh wanted to paint art that moved, and was filled with light. Now look at us, there are hundreds videos made of Vincent van Gogh's art that move!! Kurosawa saw into the future, and so did Vincent.
First of all, this is by far the best part of the film. It’s extraordinary in its power for such a short segment. But what’s most incredible is that Kurosawa was pretty much blind making his last few films and yet still managed to create something as brilliantly visual as this.
@@Remel9555 He does have a pretty recognizable way of talking. If one was familiar enough with his voice, just listening to him speak would probably be a dead giveaway :-)
So completely masterful!! What inspired casting, the only other Hollywood folk Kurosawa worked with was Richard Gere in Rhapsody in August. What a privilege!
Yes! Van Gogh speak English, one of the best details in this dream. That’s what a real dream like! So beautiful! (Van Gogh speak French is too beautiful to dream off)
Rude but honest? (Google says this means to be bored.) Perhaps another Kurosawa film with more/a different kind of action would suit you better, like Ran or Throne of Blood.
i can't add the subtitles but if you find the language difficult to follow, i could try to hammer out a short script if you and others would find it useful to better comprehend the language. It's not quite the same as having the right words appear at the right time though!

So true! And it still gives me goosebumps! ❤
And now Scorsese, who plays Van Gogh, is saying the same thing now
@@dalkbrolne full circle, how poetic
This scene is a MASTERPIECE and I say this objectively.
Kurosawa was way ahead of it's time.

Great scene, great movie, great director! I always get a kick out of seeing Martin Scorsese playing Van Gogh here 😁
Thanks for mentioning that, I had no idea.
wow is that Martin Scorsese??
@@georgeclooney1293 Yep, it sure is! Honestly, I think he's pretty decent as an actor. His part in Taxi Driver was good too.
I can’t believe I actually guessed right that that was Martin Scorsese!

This is incredibly beautiful, and very moving.
One of the most beautiful sequence of cinema history.
It’s so amazing he stays as Marty but is still 100% able to convey what Van Gogh was like.
How do you know what Van Gogh was like?
@@xyttra We don't. But we can faithfully convey how he looks like (still not his original look but close enough though).
@@men_del12 I'm talking about how he was as a person, not how he looks like, we can very easily deduce that from his auto portrait
@@xyttra Ah...I see. In that case we need to learn his lifetime journey as an artist.
"Why aren't you painting? To me, this scene is beyond belief"
the movie and the paintings, both masterpiece
And the music by Chopin. Too much beauty.
Prelude # 15 - D flat major
My dad got the print of the painting in his museum in Amsterdam and it still hangs above his bed 🙏🏽
Scorsese is underrated as an actor
THAT IS MARTIN SCORSESE???
@@maxpayne4315 The one and only!
And now Scorsese is actually running out of time.
I think this might be my favorite sequence in all of cinematic history. Thanks for posting.
So completely masterful!! What inspired casting, the only other Hollywood folk Kurosawa worked with was Richard Gere in Rhapsody in August. What a privilege!
And best of all, Richard Gere agreed to do it pro bono, saying "For Kurosawa, I'd work for free".
Chopin "Raindrop"
Behind every painting or picture, there is a story.
Mountain visible in the background at 3:42 (they can't have filmed this in Northern France)
I mean, LOOK AT THIS
Kurosawa, Van Gogh and Chopin...
Astoundingly simple, passionate, and deeply moving.
I can’t believe I actually guessed right that that was Martin Scorsese!
What genius isn't part lunatic?????

Photosensitive. ;)
fascinating video BuenasJuergas. I crushed the thumbs up on your video. Maintain up the high-quality work.
Quelle scène fabuleuse. Quel génie ! Merci Monsieur Kurosawa.
Beautiful! A MASTERPIECE!
❤❤❤ who is here after the Van Gogh exhibition? 😗
Thank you so much for uploading this. (typed through tears).
It's been 14 years since I first watch this movie when I was a kid. Man it's still one of the best
This is beautiful
This is very interesting. Inner vision is real.
Who's the pianist that performs Chopin?
Yes! Van Gogh speak English, one of the best details in this dream. That’s what a real dream like! So beautiful!

What a beautiful and gorgeous movie, truly a masterpiece
What is the name of the painting at 7:22 ?
Can't find a painting that looks exactly like it. Perhaps it is a composite, or it is some artistic liberty.
The secret number one: the Nunchi ! (V.Van Gogh) Best définition ever of "Nunchi".
Just like Stanely Kubrick's Barry Lyndon was a painting in motion so is this it takes talent to convey film as a painting in motion

tengo una tarea sobre esto xd
You’ll never know the simultaneous peace and thrill of being so fully present in nature until you do a plein air painting!
How did they do that? What the soft?
Certainement une des plus belle scène du cinéma de Kurosawa.
great visual treat.

My all time favorite movie about van gogh!! Thank you!

Una belleza sin igual.
Gracias.
A terrible makeup job on Van Gogh...could it possibly be deliberate? But, if so, why?
I bet it's because it's like he found him in one of his paintings as if painted himself.
