I never understand why in these situations there is no one in the coaching stuff who steps in: His game needs to take this next step of maturity: Even Jordan came into the league with his crazy athleticism and recklessness and got hurt. But eventually he bulked up, and played much more under control - but there needs to be someone there in the coaching staff to help Ja get there.

Their roster isn't the same, they don't have Steven Adams or Dillon Brooks, who were starters when they were good. Also we have no reason Ja will make any sort of leap, he is a blake griffin type archetype that peaks early because he's a guard that is an inefficient shooter whose game relies on his vertical which peaks early. Derrick Rose never threw himself at the rim lol. He like Tony Parker were 2 of the greatest PGs at finishing around contact smh. And when he did dunk 40% of the time if was on a defender it was a legit poster. Ja plays like Lebron James he just tries to finish over you or through you lol but he's not 6'9 260. Seriously Rose would use floaters, eurosteps, hop steps, spin layups and jackknifing his way to the rim. It's why his knees took so much punishment he was putting so much pressure on them from his herky jerky playstyle. Ja isn't nearly as good with body control as Rose or even a John Wall who was able spin dunk/layup could finish with either hand as well. Man I'm sorry to say this but these guys aren't that skilled they can shoot the 3 better but overall basketball skill and IQ is a skill noway in heck

Memphis is coming back with a 2000s team but it looks like it will work. Edey went up against Walker Kessler in the summer league and won that matchup. The size is very hard to stop and partnered with Ja in the pick and roll is a problem for teams with smaller bigs to stop. However this team needs to prove it can stay healthy.

    • @snarkmark2806

It doesn’t matter how big or dominant you are in the paint when three points is always more than two points. Do you think no teams tried to fight the 3 point tide by playing big? It doesn’t work. The a ha moment was when Houston’s Clint Capela, at the time an elite rim runner and shot blocker got played off the floor in the playoffs by GS. He got salary dumped a month or so later.
With the current rules, EVERY pick and roll is a switch, and Edey is going to get cooked on the perimeter.

The nba didn’t leave him behind it’s just the injury and the off the court stuff that made the nba take a step back from promoting him which I understand and agree it needed to happen. I’m from Memphis and a grizzlies die heart fan but Ja plays in the smallest market and city in the nba and his star is so massive that the grizzlies have gotten more national attention in the short time he’s been here compared to the 19 years of the team being in Memphis before he was drafted. Ja will take the league by storm next year because he’s a winning player

Grizz fan -- There is a good chance the grizz are a 50+ win team. back in the talk, back in the limelight.
but i get there is a chance that... this team isnt the same team we had 2 years ago.
Ja appears to be super focused heading into this year. I could see him jumping back int hat 8-10 best player in the league range.
Saying we are the same team as 2 years ago... isnt fair.
Coaching staff completely reworked outside of jenkins
Vince/GG(gg's injury is tough break) have become everything ZW+ whoever could dream of being.
JJJ became an offensive force last year.
Edey, if he works is a huge move and IS the long term answer, i dont get this angle from you.
    The biggest hurdles this year.
Yes end of game offense outside of ja making something happen.
    Health
    and coaching.
Jenkins is semi on the hotseat.
Their one real chance in the playoffs, against GSW.... ja was injured... but was unstoppable in that series.
they are a better team now.
They SHOULD be competing... and i think will. people forget how good this team is and how well its built.

Ja was not suspended long enough bc it was NOT his first time. I have no idea why ANYONE thinks he’s matured. The off court “stuff”
    INCLUDES HIS OWN FAMILY.
The only holdover from the GnG Grizzlies is JJ. Build around him, not Ja.
And he’s not a complete player.
JJ may not be, but only bc Memphis has tried and failed to build a team around JM.
