  • Plate Carriers and Belts are a hot topic among civilians, especially how to set them up. The past year of Average Joes Across America has really taught me a lot and given me insight where my gear has been lacking for myself. I want to give insight into my setup and lessons I learned along the way that will hopefully help you when making decision about your own gear.

Depends on environment but I would mostly say Ranger green and earthly colors like brown are best everywhere. As someone in the SouthEast, US M81 is my favorite drip to run personally.

Great video! I appreciate the fact that you focused on the logic behind the configuration and less of the brands being used. Since a lot of us get caught up with getting "the right brands" without really thinking about what are they really for or will they work well for me. Great job and Merry Christmas to you and your family 😊

Hey brother for all your set up, I dig what your putting down. I always tell my guys on my teams down range. Set it up the way you want and as-long as it’s efficient and meets all my requirements then its good to go, shooters choice. People are gonna always find something to nit pick about. I have been working in the Middle East for about 19 years straight and over 50 deployments. Shooters choice as long as it functions and you can do your job. Good video brother

I usually use od green. In my area, multicam tropic works very well and lets me blend right in with my surroundings. Camouflage should be based in your area. Old school woodland camo still works very well and od green and fde works very well with it.

I have two setups. I keep a VERY minimalist haley strategic flatpack with a D3CRM and medical dangler. This also includes a pdw and other basic stuff to get home where I have more kit. I keep that with me as a way to get home to my better gear and nothing else.
The next kit I have is a odg full plate carrier and chest rig, rifle, belt, helmet, etc. That's more home defense for civil unrest and potential bug out gear.
I don't really believe in camo for civil unrest or whatever standard civilian situation you would come across. If I need to disappear into the woods, you'd be far better off with a full body set of real tree camo setup for your environment than say multicam or whatever.

Great video Jim! I ran the spiritus LV119 for a while but with it being so thin, the shoulder pads aren't as padded and with the weigh of the carrier it would cause some strain on my shoulders. I upgraded to the London Bridge shoulder pads and they are amazing! Night and day difference and they fit the spiritus perfectly. Just a pro tip ;) Keep up the good work man!

    Clothing: Very situational.
Cool Factor: I will never stop wanting to LARP around in M81 Woodland.

A good base color like ranger green or coyote brown (My go to) is perfect. You can spray paint it and make your own patterns while having a blank canvas instead of trying to fight the preexisting camo. ATACs is also a really good camo, easier on the eyes and breaks up patterns really well.

For urban/suburban environment I like LBT’s Mas Grey and for rural areas in my AO, I’m set up with Multicam. I do like Ranger Green and it’s similar to Mas Grey. Just what I think is good for my location. When I was on active duty years ago I was issued M81 Woodland which of course is awesome.

  • @rtek777
    @rtek777 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

All depends on the area you plan to use your gear in. Also depends if you want to look military in an urban/suburban environment or want to stand out in a rural setting. Take pictures of the areas you plan or expect to use your gear at then go over all the images and see what color shows up the most. My area, dark to light greens are most common, so Ranger green works best and in the suburbs it looks least military than multicam. When I go hunting, the gear I take is all multicam worn on my hunter's camo clothing. My night time gear for neighborhood and home defense is all black multicam.

Running your gear is very important! Even simple stuff such as understanding how far you can properly identify a person with your flash light and then also identify clearly if they have weapon. I did this tonight with some help and we all learned a lot! Another great and easy thing is to take 2 sheets of paper put letters on them and place them on opposite sides of your biggest room in your residence. Can you identify those letters? How easy? Simple thing like this are things that we should be aware of the limitations/advantages/disadvantages of all of our gear! Can you lay down on your stomach with your conceal carry holster? Do you know what to do to draw from that position?

    • @TheJBerg
      @TheJBerg 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

Concealed draw from prone. That's actually a good one (with an empty firearm) to practice now that you mention it. Real world, you might seek cover initially to reset the assailant's initial advantage.

I agree that Ranger green is probably the all around best gear color. Dark enough while also looking clean and professional. Living where I do I enjoy woodland or M81 camo. But that’s just for my flex😂 I have a nice chest rig in woodland but currently looking at getting a slick style carrier in ranger green.

So many vids of setups ...(awesome honest video by the way) but so many don't include one thing i believe as essential on any plate carrier, chest rig or belt. Its a simple paint can opener! Ever have a jam when it counts...two bucks can save your life. Faster than any mult-tool or knife I ever used. ..wrapped and attached by paracord and a couple of elastics..jammed casing out in seconds. Thanks for the excellent video!

I switch between multicam, m81 woodland, and once in a blue moon flecktarn. My coyote brown gear goes well with all of them but I supposed ranger green would as well. My environment tends to lean towards desert and forest more than lush green rainforest so that's why I chose coyote brown gear.

200% agree with needing to wear your own equipment for your own situation.
While I share the same weapons and belt... I do have 2 completely different torso set ups available.
Tasmanian mk2, without a front plate, to be light for longer travel scenarios.
Second is a PIG PC that does use plates for my scenario that is a more serious personal threat where armor is advantageous.
I've hiked with both and believe me, a chest rig and light backpack is so much easier than a PC... If your scenario doesn't weigh too much on direct threats consider being lighter for your own sake.

OD or Ranger Green adapts to most any environment, especially urban, and looks relatively inconspicuous in low light and from a distance under say a flannel cover shirt with blue jeans. Can be spray patterned if needed. Multicam or woodland is the best patterns, next to OD/Ranger green for general overall camo clothing. I keep an extra woodland pattern top for night ops and/or forested or jungle areas. But it all just depends on what your trying to pose as in the moment. If your hiding in the woods, then the obvious. If your trying to play the part of ordinary citizen, street clothes, gun tucked in your back pocket and a day pack or messenger bag is best.

Camo is based on two man factors. Color and silhouette. Any earth tone (green, brown, grey) will work well. Deer are difficult to pick up from their color. It’s usually the silhouette or body line that gives them up. That’s where patterned camo excells.

Just a US citizen here. I run a belt and a plate carrier. Recently made the honest decision to run my plate carrier totally slick. Realistically, as a civilian, I don't think I will need more ammunition than what is on my belt - I am trying to AVOID a gunfight not get in to one. Running slick will make me much more maneuverable (faster) and extend my endurance (less weight) which I think will be critical in an emergency situation where bullets are flying.

Ranger green is probably best suited for all around (rural and urban), if it was more readily available in more gear mas grey would be a good option as well. different camos can be better suited for different rural environments. I wish gear came in a darker brown instead of just the bright coyote, more like the dark brown in m81.

My philosophy on belts is that I should be able to fight with just the belt, if needed. Two rifle mags, two pistol mags (at least), medical, sidearm, knife, small GP pouch, dump pouch, done. That way I can put on just the belt, belt + carrier for real SHTF scenarios, or belt + chest rig for light recce work.

I've found that multicam works very well in my desert environment so I went with that. I got a thing for ranger green tho fsfs

I run all black load out, with easy to cover camo sheets…bright whites, tan, and green camos in three different small bags, light weight and all colors on one load out…

I like personally like FDE and Coyote Brown but also love OD and the Black Muti pattern.

I play in mostly desert areas. Coyote brown or tan are the way to go for me but ranger green is a close second.

With sunny NZ days and heavy green bush you just have to go with standard Vietnamese Tiger Stripe, it just works !

Depends on the area you will be in. Woodland camo is my favorite but ranger grn or OD grn would work as well. All those would be a sitting duck in the desert.

Once you delve into night vision you'll find that ranger green is the best for day and night.

Multicam and browns can be added as needed pretty simply with paints.

Here's a tactical tip for you the webbing I use when I was in was the 58 patton webbing two problems with it too me was it was heavy but comfortable the other it was in OG only so when you had it on over your DPMDs it stuck out like a soar thumb I was thinking about it one day and my new full size cam scale was on my bunk so I picked it up held it up and bingo it was wider than myself when held lose but it also stretched slightly it also reached below my knees so this is what I made I got three of them sewed two together with cam net cord like a poncho with bottom open neck and two arm holes I also made a slit across the front at belt level leaving acses to my belt buckle and both ammo pouches. We used to get what we called kip shelters they were a eight by five sheet of nylon covers with anti IR twelve holo ally pegs with holes drilled thew the top with six meters of para cord the idea was dig a L trench using the corded pegs form a zig zag over one end of the L trench cover with tarp then soil then top it of with sods of grass .anyway get the sheet cut an oblong large enough to cover the slot in the net and for the drop length from the top of the pouches to belt buckel higharound the slot lace in some green para cord dye it if you don't have the green put a locking toggle on it to tighten it up when the slot is over and around your mag pouches just enough to secure it but not to tight it bunches around the mags .with glue the nylon strip at the top over the slot make some holes in the nylon for zip ties from your third cam scale cut a pice long enough in depth to cover from your sternum to crotch sewe the top to the main body so it hangs down take zip ties and conect the cam scale to the nylon so when you slide your hand under to your ammo pouches the nylon lifts the cam scale away from you to open acses to the pouches done now the use and purpose when it covers your with your belt kit on a bush hat with scrimping on it hangs loosely and bourse up breaches up your hard outline when you look at someone with this on even with just the netting on and no vegetation you are hard to be seen the man behind you with no netting draws the eye immediately. After triles my unit adopted this and when we were sent to different world areas we googled the counter found out the vegetation and soil colouring and eather bought cam scalfs to match the area if we could not find a match we got the basic sand coloured one and tie dyed it to what we needed

Mann thank you for the intro. I had a guy I hired for security for a comedian and he wore his entire armory. It was definitely not needed.
