I have an extremely hard time believing that absolutely no one in a town built in the middle of Fenway Park remembers what baseball was actually like. Doubly so when you consider there were ghouls who lived there once, some of whom had to have been alive pre-War, and also Nick. He may not have been alive back then himself, but he has the memories of a man who was. My best guess is that Moe set up shop after McDonough booted all the ghouls out and that Nick doesn't say anything about it because so many are still so suspicious of him, so he just stays out of it completely to avoid trouble. Still feels like a stretch to me...
I just assumed either he knows the reality and just makes it all up for wow factor, or most people know and know one bothers to correct him either because they do not care or he ignores them

Which means his primary customer base is probably tourists and travelers, and others who would be more likely to need a weapon in the near future. And since those people don't live in the middle of an old baseball field, they would be significantly less likely to know anything about baseball and its history. So then, like William said, he makes up this hyper-violent version for the wow factor to move more merchandise. His reactions when you bring all the stuff to him still make me think he might actually believe the things he says, but hey--maybe he's just that good of a salesman! Gotta keep the ruse a-goin'.
In regards to the kamikaze dolphins in the Unstoppable comic; the US Navy actually researched training dolphins to carry explosives to sink enemy ships. So this comic is not only lore friendly, but is a real world Easter egg...

The US also trains them to do rescue missions and detect mines. Sea lions were trained in the same ways too. When the soviets heard about the us navy training sea animals they couldn't let something like that go unchecked so were quick to start their own program soon after. So yeah, totally commie-kazi dolphins. lol
Additionally they are trained by the US military to rescue lost naval swimmers or to locate underwater mines. The U.S. Navy trains dolphins and sea lions under the U.S Navy Marine Mammal Program, which is based in San Diego, California. They have about 75 or so I believe. The Soviets had a similar program though apparently closed it in late 90s and sold their dolphins to Iran, including ones apparently trained to kill and lay underwater mines and allegedly ones trained for kamikaze runs to search and destroy submarines. Sometimes truth is way, WAY more scary than fiction!
Tom Sienkowski, I too paused to come comment about the real world military use of dolphins and other marine life and saw this. Haha. The allied forces also used birds with explosives and dogs trained to put mines under tanks but both the dogs and birds literally backfired when, because the forces had used their own tanks to train them, the animals went for the allied tanks/vehicles and not the enemies.
You missed the part about how Moe Cronin's name is itself a reference to a real-life person...the baseball player, Joe Cronin. Whose jersey can actually be found in Diamond City.
You can just imagine the Bethesda guys searching the net for obscure signatures to put on the ball, they just KNEW someone would try to find em and try to get the idea behind putting them on the ball =)

It's possible that he knows the true history of baseball but he knows people would understand it so he just made something up they might understand easily or it could be a drop business or he might not really know what baseball is is just putting together what he knows from life experiences

A damn shame there were not more of these little moments in Fallout 4. Nate/Nora are essentially time travelers from an era that all 'modern culture' emulates to be. The fact that is so rarely brought up is a shame. It is hysterical hearing about the misconceptions of the old world when we know and can either play along or set the record straight. It is actually one of the disappointing parts of Fallout 4; just the fact that "I am Pre-War" isn't something that came up that often. Hell, Nate is a soldier who fought the Chinese and had his entire world ended by Chinese-Russian nuclear fire. Not 200 years ago but like 2 months ago to him. And when he meets the Yangtze captain, he just kinda goes "oh that's interesting" rather than "you murdered my entire world!" That's classic storytelling of having one moment mean little (now) to one person but mean everything to the other. Interesting chance for a statement of justice (what punishment does the captain deserve for something everyone was complicit in AFTER 200 years? What retribution does Nate/Nora deserve?). Still, Moe's misconception about baseball is great and I wish there were more moments like that in the series.
I found this awesome pipe rifle on a legendary enemy. It has the wounding effect, so each shot does 25 points of bleed damage. You can make the rifle automatic, and the bleed points stack. You can also make the clip size very large. The more you shoot an enemy, the faster the bleed damage is applied. This thing is an absolute beast at killing everything, but especially mirelurks, as the bleed damage is not reduced by the shell. So if you come across this or another similar weapon, just know that it is indeed useful.

I did this quest twice with each of my characters. Collected all items went back to Moe, and some time after, when I went to Westing Estate, all 3 was there again. And you can't drop them (quest items). So I collected all 3, get to Diamond City, and yes, quest was there again. But that's it. Only twice.
Sorry guys. I'm a bit of a Fallout 4 noob. I notice Oxhorn's Power Armor HUD is kind of transparent, giving you more view of the screen, where my hud is not transparent and makes me feel a bit claustrophobic. Is there a setting in the game to change this, or is this a mod?

I don't think the signature items were supposed to mean anything. Most likely whoever did the art assets for them just googled a bunch of signatures and grabbed one they liked.

They would run under the German tank (and occasionaly their own!) and explode.
I say the first signature is Ben Ruta. The last letter is possible a capital "A" instead of a "h". He played for the Yankees which is probably one of first teams Bethesda looked up for names. The 1st name on the glove is possible Louis (also named lou) Brock. He writes his name similar and closely to the same style as the glove one. He in the baseball hall of fame and a left fielder. Edit: I'll keep editing this when I find more info
I've recently noticed a cool trick when collecting Mirelurk eggs. You know how when you approach a nest, 1-3 of the eggs shake right. If you have a small pistol you can shoot the eggs that shake, then loot the rest undisturbed.
Moe is a real fun character. Enjoyed your investigation into the signatures! I look forward to hearing your thoughts on more characters in Diamond City, especially Travis and the Bobrov brothers--they're probably my own favorite Diamond City side quest.
I know this came out a while ago. But I wanted to point out that in the world in one of the town's you can find a time capsul room with a 2076 world championship bat in which you can give to moe, who gives you 200 caps or you can pass a speech check to increase the ammount.
This was entertaining in quite a different way than most of your videos lol. I get the impression that Bethesda when making the graphic for the signed baseball and glove probably just went online to find a bunch of random signatures to apply to it to keep it detailed but probably just took the first dozen they found images for. I'm imagining if you really got a baseball signed by people it would be a really weird story lol.

It's pretty clear that Bethesda used a Google Image search for "signature" then checked the various filter choices. I found one from the ball without touching the filters in just a couple moments. The ball was probably the first model to be textured for the quest and by the time it came to the mitt the artist was tired of looking for fancy ones and used the most incomprehensible he could find(It's what I would do lol.).
Given how popular this series is, I'll let you all in on a Bethesda secret. We weren't expecting anyone to actually look into the texture and just went googling vaguely English signatures and slapped them on the textures.
I think the reason the signatures on the baseball are so much clearer and more legible than the ones on the catcher's mit is due to the fact that the baseball is so much lighter. Since black ink shows up so much clearer on off-white than it does on leather brown, the artists have to put more work into making it look visually authentic for the half second players will see it before putting it in their inventory, while it's harder for us to read black text on a dark surface. You see that a lot in art. And the reason the signatures on the baseball aren't related to the sport is probably because they had to work quickly on the texture. The baseball quest is such a minor part of the game that they probably didn't want to dedicate a lot of time to, and time is a resource in game development. Hence the use of readily available, easy to find signatures instead of authentic baseball signatures.
The players who threw the ball called "pitchers" Threw baseball grenades when they pulled a "fast one" And the other people called "batters" Would try and hit the ball either out of the park, into the stadium, or tried to hit it as far out as possible and the other players would try and get the ball before it exploded and tried to throw it back at there team or the pitcher.
Everytime I start a new playthrough no matter what method I'm trying to play, I have to get the Rockville Slugger from Moe. It's a great reference to the city Bethesda/Zenimax resides in, especially for me, since I live in the town over from Rockville.
What an amazing time we live in. It's astounding to me that anyone with an internet connection can extract signatures from a game's texture file, process it through a few algorithms, and track down the original images that the were used within a just a few hours of research. This is something that barely 20 years ago would have probably taken a whole team of forensic handwriting analyzers weeks or months to do.

I've recently noticed a cool trick when collecting Mirelurk eggs. You know how when you approach a nest, 1-3 of the eggs shake right. If you have a small pistol you can shoot the eggs that shake, then loot the rest undisturbed.

This was entertaining in quite a different way than most of your videos lol. I get the impression that Bethesda when making the graphic for the signed baseball and glove probably just went online to find a bunch of random signatures to apply to it to keep it detailed but probably just took the first dozen they found images for. I'm imagining if you really got a baseball signed by people it would be a really weird story lol.

The catcher's mitt and ball are the same texture from the Youth League in Jamaica Plain ;)
Cool I gave them to Moe but still kinda wanted them on a shelf in the prydwen.
It's pretty clear that Bethesda used a Google Image search for "signature" then checked the various filter choices. I found one from the ball without touching the filters in just a couple moments. The ball was probably the first model to be textured for the quest and by the time it came to the mitt the artist was tired of looking for fancy ones and used the most incomprehensible he could find(It's what I would do lol.).

Given how popular this series is, I'll let you all in on a Bethesda secret. We weren't expecting anyone to actually look into the texture and just went googling vaguely English signatures and slapped them on the textures.

I think the reason the signatures on the baseball are so much clearer and more legible than the ones on the catcher's mit is due to the fact that the baseball is so much lighter. Since black ink shows up so much clearer on off-white than it does on leather brown, the artists have to put more work into making it look visually authentic for the half second players will see it before putting it in their inventory, while it's harder for us to read black text on a dark surface. You see that a lot in art.
And the reason the signatures on the baseball aren't related to the sport is probably because they had to work quickly on the texture. The baseball quest is such a minor part of the game that they probably didn't want to dedicate a lot of time to, and time is a resource in game development. Hence the use of readily available, easy to find signatures instead of authentic baseball signatures.
You can find these before ever meeting Moe. That's why I looked for a video on it. Obviously a one time thing but thought I'd share that.

Everytime I start a new playthrough no matter what method I'm trying to play, I have to get the Rockville Slugger from Moe. It's a great reference to the city Bethesda/Zenimax resides in, especially for me, since I live in the town over from Rockville.

What an amazing time we live in. It's astounding to me that anyone with an internet connection can extract signatures from a game's texture file, process it through a few algorithms, and track down the original images that the were used within a just a few hours of research. This is something that barely 20 years ago would have probably taken a whole team of forensic handwriting analyzers weeks or months to do.
