Eddy Arnold had 57 top ten singles. 19 were number one. He sold 85 million records, 147 songs on the Billboard Country charts. In 1948 he had 5 successful songs on the charts at the same time. He was only second to George Jones in total record sales. Legend is kind of an understatement when it comes to Eddy Arnold. He had the Midas touch for many years.
"...He had the Midas touch for many years. " ...and he earned it!! He recognized a beautiful new talent in front of him and he helped her along. He was my grandfather's favorite singer. My dad got him a front row seat at a show in Reno, Nevada back in about 1975 or so, and Eddie Arnold stepped down off the stage to talk with my grandpa (he was about 85 then) and shook his hand. It was something that wasn't ever forgotten. Good Memories...
Yes sir Eddie Arnold Johnny Cash Hank & Hank Jr. Waylon Jennings Willy Nelson George Jones. Tammy Wynet Patsy Cline Loretta Lynn Dolly Parton were all Ledgons. LeAnn Rimes and Miley Cyrus Gretchen Wilson Reba McEntire and a few other ladies will also be in the Ledgondairy status circle here in just a few more years. I there are people out there that do not care much for Miley and I was one of them myself up until I heard her singing a cover for baby I'm in the mood for you.
When I heard Miley singing that song I had to sit up and listen to her sing. Even the people that doesn't care much about her but iffin they really listen to her sing some of the covers that she sings. Now if they are truly honest about it will have to admit that Miley Cyrus can sing and make any song sound down right amazing. She does an awesome job on singing the Pink Floys songs Comfortably numb and Wish you were here and then she does amazing singing AC/DCs Dirty Deeds. Not to mention her singing Blondies Heart of Glass and Joan Jetts I Love Rock And Roll and I Hate Myself For Loving You. Miley has one of them one in a million voices. Because that beautiful young lady can sing ANYTHING weather it be Counry Rock Pop or anything else that she may want to try. Miley has more raw talent than can be spoken of. I am now a great fan of hers. I would love to hear her team up with and sing the amazing Elton John and Tammy Wynet song. What a woman needs. As I said Miley Cyrus can sing ANYTHING that she sets her mind to sing. The NFL should absolutely sign Miley Cyrus up for a Superbowl halftime show.
I have a feeling that is quite unlikely. With the emergence of "bro country" and rappers doing "Country" albums, the genre is at its absolute lowest point in history. Nashville is pumping out the same bro country song over and over, which isn't even country. It's Pop & Hip Hop beats with pedal steels, acoustic guitars providing instrumentation that's normally associated with Country. And they make sure the lyrics cover all the most cliché narrative themes associated with Country Western music. Such as; feeling lonesome, feeling heartbroken, feeling hungover, or feeling both lonesome & heartbroken as your head throbs from the night before and a slow moving freight train blows its whistle in the distance. Tbh most of those topics are associated with classic Country from the 50s-70s, so most new singers aren't even familiar with the classic songs of the genre. These new Bro "Country" artists are obsessed with songs about driving on dirt roads, drinking cheap beer, and drinking cheap beer while you drive down a dirt road. Because they think that's all Blue Collar people with their free time. They wouldn't know because theyre all nepo babies who were born rich. But their audience should be offended. Nashville clearly thinks it's consumers are stupid. The only thing Country about Bro Country is the overdubbed pedal steels, rustic sounding instrumentation, and cliche lyrics. So it's literally only Country at the very surface level. And mostly it just stinks to listen to it. Sometimes you'll hear a new artist with a good voice, but I want to hear them sing country. Not pop or hip hop. There will certainly be a pushback against the current awful wave of mainstream country music. And return to traditional styles and sounds. With singers who have great voices back by bands who can actually play instruments. And no synthesizers, drum machines, Hip Hop beats, or four-on-the-floor Pop / EDM beats. I heard someone say once "if you can't two step to it then it ain't country" and I think that's a fair assessment. It's not 100% true in every case but it's a decent guage. It's supposed to sound like Country, not Hip Hop. If I wanted to listen Hip hop I'd put on some Nas or MF DOOM. Post Malone stinks as a rapper and he stinks even more ass a country singer. Just stick to what got u famous in the first place, you ain't talented enough to be hopping around genres like that, buddy. I mean the can't even rap let alone sing. He STINKS. Same goes for Beyonce and her lame new "country" album. Wearing a cowboy hat and having a pedal steel in your song don't equal Country.
I have Cattle Call on a CD in my car and I sing with Eddie everywhere I go! I love those old Western cowboy songs. I am 83 years old and singing in my car keeps my voice strong. Thank you for playing this song!
This is why I love roaming around on TH-cam. I get to come upon gems like this. I am not necessarily a western song fan, with some exceptions. But, this song is such a legend, and wonderfully performed.
Now that was nice music…not like today where the singers are screaming and the band music is still louder than they are….and you can understand the words they’re singing, the story of the song. Great music gone forever 🥲😡
@stonewall73 Agreed. I wish I had been part of that era. Unfortunately, I was born too late. I would, also, like to point out that I appreciate your perfect grammar and sentence structure. It is deplorable how low Academia has sunk. Good grammar has become a rarity. Shameful.
@@aldapellegrino6712 Thank you, Alda. My dad, who passed away last year, was a former English teacher, prolific writer, and grammar/vocabulary stickler, so it's rather hard-wired with me. Heck, I am the only person I know that still begins email paragraphs with the first word spaced to the right, lol. I, too, mourn the loss of proper writing skills. Much like yourself, I assume, I actually gain a sense of satisfaction (and dare I say, surprise) when I discover decently written and expressed ideas in a comments section such as this. Sad state of affairs, indeed. At any rate, have a great day. I'm glad you got to discover and enjoy the music of this era. I was a 23 year old working in a tire shop when I first heard this song. I was mesmerized, and immediately recognized that I was listening to something quite special.
Because of some of the shenanigans she pulled when she was still a teenager and the way she treated her parents. She went to Hollywood and thought she was all that and basically kicked her parents out of her life.
My wife's grandfather was a long-time western songwriter named Ted Daffen who wrote ^BORN TO LOSE ^ which LeAnn recorded also . Grandpa Ted said she had the best female voice he had ever heard ! now I know why he said that about her ! This is PURE MAJIC !
I still remember riding my horse and pushing cattle through the field to the corral. It was a bright morning with the sun bursting over the Rockies, and I was singing this song to whoever in heaven who would listen. Sixty years later, I still feel the tune in my heart. Sigh.
Quite a few years ago my sister and I took our Mother to hear Eddy Arnold at the Lyric Theatre in Baltimore. Somewhere in the song he started the Oooo, Oooo's - he stopped singing and said - "You didn't think I could still do it , did you'? Quite the moment - I hope he liked our response - everyone was on their feet.
I'm so glad Eddie Arnold came out to perform this with LeAnn. I saw him perform years ago at the Indiana state fair in Indianapolis years ago and he is sia wonderful and talented performer. 🥰💕❤️
I've listened to this many times... just coming back for a replay. Had to comment on how simple and enjoyable music was back then. New music is still good but...now I'm heading to listen to Eddie sing make the world go away. I always sing this at karaoke lol. Peace from Michigan.
Unbelievable harmonics out of both of them. Heard Eddy Arnold original years ago he's absolutely still on pitch. Didn't know LeAnn Rimes could sing that good.
I saw LeAnn sing this song at a show in Chattanooga when she was 12 years old and being an Eddy Arnold fan from the '40s and '50s I knew she had it. She also did some Patsy Cline songs that doubly convinced me she was the real thing.
I saw her at the Tivoli Theater too. She was 14, Blue was riding high on the charts and One Way Ticket had just been released. After hearing Blue on the radio and watching the video, I had to go and see if she was for real. Bill Monroe had just passed away and she sang Blue Moon Of Kentucky. She sang the first verse in his style, then her band kicked and she sang the second verse like Elvis. But the crowd didn't seem to understand what she was doing. Then a little later, she sang I Will Always Love You - but not like Dolly. She sang it like Whitney Houston and that's when I knew she was the real deal. I bought an 8 X 10 photo in the lobby and had the Blue CD with me. After the show ended, she had to do interviews with a couple of radio stations. But we're told that if we wanted to meet her, just to hang around, because after she finished with the radio interviews she'd come back and meet with anybody who wanted to wait. It took close to 30 minutes for her to finish. But when she did, she met with everybody who waited around, was as nice and as friendly as she could be and signed autographs for all of us. Yes, I still have mine.
This deserves 9,999,999,999,999,999.99 likes Very good and you never hear music like this anymore. Yes I know Eddy was the original and LeAnn did a remake but putting the 2 together and making a duet. Fantastic job well done
How eerie and beautiful their voices are. This is a song unlike any other. I had forgotten what sensational high notes the young LeAnn could hit. ....Can she still hit them? They somehow manage, with their yodeling, to recreate the joy and solitude of cowboys in an almost infinite mountain wilderness. This yodeling has traveled very far from the Alps to the Rockies or Sierras.
I remember when Eddy first came out with that song. he sounded as good here as he did back then. God Bless and keep him and LeAnn's voice supreme. also ECF
Absolutely love this song! I use to hear this song when I was growing up in the 50s. Always loved Eddie Arnold. Thank you for posting this beautiful song.
I loved my grandfather so much but had a short time with him before he passed on. I am stunned to have come across this song which was our song at the time I was 4. I think he was the only person I truly loved because he made me feel so secure
Grew up listening to Eddie Arnold music playing on Dad's phonograph. Eddie was his favorite singer and my Dad often sang along to my Mom's delight. This was absolutely beautiful and a nice surprise to stumble across on YT. Thanks for posting and sharing.
I was 11 when Eddy recorded that song and I was big on the Westerns back then. I got to work horses and work cattle , take pack trips and this song just seemed to epitomize all that. I’ve love LeAnne ever since she came out with Crazy by Patsy Cline and the ONLY person I ever heard do it justice. She has a wonderful voice.
I first saw Ms Rimes in 95 singing on a flat bed trailer at the watermellon fest in Arcadia Fl. I believe she was 13 or 14. Knew for sure she was going to make it big. Thanks Leann for all the great music.
Touches the very depth of my soul with goose bumps, recalling the prairies of Wyoming/Montana upon which roam many thousands of black angus; where horses are not pets, but required for work.
WoW did that bring on the Tears 😭😂 Other than the Memories of First Hearing it on 8-Track tape or Lpr back in about 1969 or 70. Good to See Eddy Still Had that Bueatiful Voice & His Harmonic Range. May God Bless Them Both.
Just love watching and listening to Leann. What a great voice and she sings the great oldies songs so perfect like they should be. She is very versatile. Years from now she will have paid her dues and be remembered as one of the greats. What a classy wonderful lady...
Did you notice how unwilling Mr. Arnold is to sing on his own once he hears her voice with his song? That is high praise in and of itself coming from the original artist too! Damn, she sounds good!

LeAnn Rimes has a superb voice! This duet with Eddy Arnold is absolutely superb!
Yes you right 100% ,
Indeed!
so nice to see Eddy Arnold joining with LeAnn Rimes with this Classic Song. Loved it!
LeAnn is right up there with Patsy Cline as the best set of pipes of any female country singer ever!
To this very day it is still so very magical to listen to these two gifted voices singing together.
Hello! How are you doing today! Please pardon me for intruding into your privacy but I just wanted to know if you're a fan!... Stay safe
You are so right
I know, huh??
He kept his voice a lot better than many singers his age.
Eddy's voice is liquid gold, and LeAnn mastered an absolute classic!
Eddy Arnold is a legend, and extra kudos to LeAnn Rimes for even attempting this song yet alone nailing it perfectly.
Hello how are you doing today…?😊
LeAnn has been yodeling since she was a little girl. She was taught by Texas Yodeling Queen Janet McBride.
big respect to LeAnn for respecting Eddy Arnold.
In my opinion, the most beautiful duet of any genera ever sung.

Why LeAnn only became a star and not a mega star is very puzzling to me. The best since Patsy Cline.
Because of some of the shenanigans she pulled when she was still a teenager and the way she treated her parents. She went to Hollywood and thought she was all that and basically kicked her parents out of her life.

What a wonderful memory! Memories brighten my life now since many things have changed. But I still have my memories which brighten my days!!
I was also herding cattle in my youth. I'm 67 now but the memories are so sweet. My favorite horses still live in my memory.
Pure music, a blend of Swiss yodeling, Irish mountain music , cowboy, and blues. Timeless, and never fails to make me smile.
LeAnn actually asked Eddie Arnold to come out of Retirement to Perform It with Her; and He was Happy To Oblige.
What a great thing fro her to do

Thats just beautiful ❤
That was such a pleasure to hear .

The greatest singer ever
In women country singers
My mother used to sing this to me when I was a kid. She had a great voice. Too bad these songs will be lost as the cowboy tradition slowly disappears.
My dad always listened to Eddy Arnold. I am a Le Ann Rimes fan.
What a perfect song for me.

Eddy Arnold was HUGE back in the day. He always had song or two on the radio. LeAnn is great as well.

I first saw Ms Rimes in 95 singing on a flat bed trailer at the watermellon fest in Arcadia Fl. I believe she was 13 or 14. Knew for sure she was going to make it big. Thanks Leann for all the great music.
Love listening to them do this. Love his music. She's so talented. She reminds me a little bit of my favorite singer Patsy Cline.
I LOVE this song & they sounded so beautiful together.

She brought chills to my spine. What a voice!
I love this video of LeAnn & Eddy doing Cattle Call. Good job!!!
My kids and I LOVE this song and I’m so excited to find a version with LeAnn Rimes!
Hello how are you doing today….?😊
Love Eddie Arnold since I was a teenager ❤
Touches the very depth of my soul with goose bumps, recalling the prairies of Wyoming/Montana upon which roam many thousands of black angus; where horses are not pets, but required for work.
WoW did that bring on the Tears 😭😂 Other than the Memories of First Hearing it on 8-Track tape or Lpr back in about 1969 or 70. Good to See Eddy Still Had that Bueatiful Voice & His Harmonic Range. May God Bless Them Both.
What a great classic song, so well sung by these two!
I've been in love with her since "Blue" came out 🥰
Nothing like a touch of cowboy to give a western song some flavor!
Just love watching and listening to Leann. What a great voice and she sings the great oldies songs so perfect like they should be. She is very versatile. Years from now she will have paid her dues and be remembered as one of the greats. What a classy wonderful lady...
My Oh My what a wonderful surprise, I can remember this song and the to singers from "Way back" Oh such happy memories
Wonderful,Wonderful,it don’t get more western than that!What a great pair!Love them both,God Bless them!
Absolutely beautiful!⚜️
He was amazing and she did him proud! Thank you both!!!
So beautiful !
It dosen't get any better than this. Two of the best ever
An absolute western masterpiece by these two legendary performers.
I like the fact that the video is in Black and White. Makes it feel timeless.
Wow stupid me I didn’t even notice.
Did you notice how unwilling Mr. Arnold is to sing on his own once he hears her voice with his song? That is high praise in and of itself coming from the original artist too! Damn, she sounds good!
He certainly made it famous but is a very old song - from the 1930s I think. Two great voices!
