AN IRISH BLESSING
May the road rise to meet you,

may the stars illuminate your nights.
May the flowers bloom along your path,
your house stand firm against the storm.

When I came to this country fifty one years ago, the only job that I could get was to file papers in ABC order. After working at that company for 1 1/2 years, I left to go to college, and the Irish girl that who worked along side me gave me the words to this song on a beautifully decorated parchment paper, rolled up and tied with a bow. That Irish blessing that Pat Meehan gave me has followed me all these many years. The parchment scroll with it has been lost with the passage of time, but her kindness and blessings are still with me. We parted ways never to meet again, but we do meet in my memory every time I hear this beautiful Irish blessing.
