  • I compare the Langmuir Systems CrossFire XR vs Pro side by side in my shop (Edit with some more cuts added at 17:30). Since the CrossFire Pro was going to be in my shop for the next few weeks, I decided to put it back together next to the XR to show exactly what the differences were between the two tables. Bottom line...both are a great choice for any shop.

These tragic events instantly left families without a Father or Mother and many times without their primary income source. While the US Military has resources to help families carry on, more needs to be done. This is where organizations like Folds of Honor step up. Thanks for the review and comparison. We got the Pro using your link a few years ago and it has been a great machine. Our shop isn't big enough for an XR, but if we build a bigger shop or an extension, I may consider upgrading to an XR. Can't beat the price!

    Thank you for addressing our questions about the precision of the new machine. I hope that you can get it just as good as the Crossfire Pro.... that cut didn't have an issue. Maybe it's the plasma torch issue? I would love to see if you figure that out as we are planning to use the XR for more precise parts.

    Great video, can you start, and finish the cut slightly on the outside and then finish on the outside? That way your starting pierce is slightly away from your running line. With the cut numbers and letters, start the pierce in the center of the litter if they are the scrap section. L:ooks like a decent machine.

    David thank you for sharing this comparison. In the XR machine can you determine the finish on the Y Gantry and the X round tube ? It looks like the guiding rollers on the Y gantry are starting to wear through the black finish. the bearing arrangement on Y gantry does not look as robust as the pro ? The video didn't show the Y guide bearings that closely. Thanks Ken

      I will check that out, but I am fairly certain that it has to do with the lead in and lead out considering it is in the location where the cut starts. The nicks are really pretty small. I normally weld right past them without any issues.

  • @greener121

    I just about pulled the trigger on the 1st batch of the Pro and currently are running the XR. I would say that your lead-in and out is the problem in your setup for this demo. Sheet Cam allows that mod pretty easily as well as lets you enter the cut on a radius at 90 deg, or at a lower angle like 45 deg.. I cut a lot of 16 and 18 ga. metal art and I think that the Pro would excel with the thinner ga. material. I have had a backside dross issue (still trying to find the right settings) and one area that the Pro would definitely beat the XR in is cut speed. My Thermal Dynamics cutter states that the feed of 300ipm or greater at 45 or 60A, and my XR is kind of sketchy above about 250ipm.
    Great demo and very helpful. I'd love to see the Pro running at 300-400ipm, hint hint...

    I don't have much exp with plasma tables, but I have seen similar issues with lead in on CNC milling machines. Is it possible to use a circular lead in at one point, cut past that point, and use a circular lead out? I would also think that your lead out could be faster than your cutting speed. That might eliminate any over cut. Not 100% on those solutions, but its worth a shot. I actually plan to purchase either a pro or xr soon.

    For a non-high-def plasma, those cuts are amazing. I seen worse and I have seen better on machines that are excess of $92k by esab. A plasma will always a small lead in mark, even going into waterjet and laser on thick materials you will have the same. Great job and thanks again.

    Your lead in and lead outs look pretty good to me, but the machine I use is self built on a budget so it's of lesser quality as a whole. Sheetcam has a feature called overcut, which has it keep cutting a bit past what would normally be the end of the cut, effectively running over the very start of the profile a second time, I found this gave me less of point that sticks out.
    I also have the gcode set up to switch the torch off a few mm after it crosses where it did the lead in, but before it does the lead out. I've heard this can help sort of feather out the nick you see. Can't say for sure how well this works, my machine is a bit inconsistent, but I read that it helps when doing research on improving cut quality.
    The best method to reduce these nicks though is to strategically place your lead ins. Sheetcam lets you click where you want it to start each cut, not sure about fusion 360. I find sharp (external) corners are the best place, or halfway along the radius in a corner. If you place it on a sharp corner you wont really see any sign of a lead in.

    • @ntdracing
      @ntdracing  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Would love to see your DIY table. I have SheetCam. Just have not committed the time to learn it yet. Fusion 360 is my first…tough to let go.

    • @H34...
      @H34... 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ntdracing The machine is nothing special, box section for rails and skate bearings to make the carriages roll. The current version has carriages cut out from 6mm plate and folded with a hammer, cut out on the previous version which was made from bolted together flat bar and square tube.
      Both axis are belt driven, which isn't the best choice for a machine that's just a bit under 2mx3m, but the boss wanted it built on a budget so the likes of rack and pinion or long screws were not an option. The Y axis is also only driven on one side, unlike on your machines, again for budget reasons.
      I added a cable system to adjust and hold the gantry somewhat square. The undriven side seems to have about 1mm or so of slop because of this, so if you push it with your hand one way, and then the other it wont return to exactly the same spot both times. This bothers me, but not the boss, so there probably wont be the time/money to fix it any time soon.
      Does the job for what we need though, mainly cutting out big square or round table bases or small mounting plates, it's usually accurate to + - 0.5mm of nominal somehow despite the 1mm of apparent slop at the undriven end. Considering we're working with tape measures even + - 1mm which seems to be the worst case scenario for our machine is good enough for what we do.

    • @ntdracing
      @ntdracing  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The CrossFire Pro and the XR tables only require 115V to run the table. The torch is another consideration. I use the RW45 which needs 230 and my compressor also uses 230. I think you could make it work with 115. You would want to look at the Langmuir Systems torch compatibility table and see which ones will work with 115V...not sure if there are any. Check out the cost of setting up a 230 outlet. It might not be as much as you think. Good luck...

      @agentcovert 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The cut capacity is limited by the plasma cutting machine used which are rated in different amperages..also the air compressor size used with the plasma cutter plays a factor..example a Primeweld cut60 60amp plasma cutter can cut up to 7/8 inch plate with the correct air pressure being fed to it..very doubtful any home users have that type of need typically..
