    More about Long War 2:
Long War 2 is a massive overhaul of critically acclaimed Firaxis' XCOM 2. Owing to the success of the Long War mod for XCOM: Enemy Unknown, Firaxis' parent company, 2K Games, commissioned the Long War team to create Long War 2. The mod was released on Steam Workshop and the Nexus on Jan. 19, 2017 and is free. It is aimed at giving players the feel of running a worldwide guerrilla war against ADVENT while offering them a greater variety of strategic and tactical experiences during an extended and challenging campaign.
More about War of the Chosen:
XCOM 2: War of the Chosen, is the expansion to the 2016 award-winning strategy game of the year.
XCOM 2: War of the Chosen adds extensive new content in the fight against ADVENT when additional resistance factions form in order to eliminate the alien threat on Earth. In response, a new enemy, known as the “Chosen,” emerges with one goal: recapture the Commander. In my current campaign I'm testing an overwatch/tank build.
Theory: when in contact, blue move (or Overdrive move) into a flanking position of one or more active enemies; enter overwatch; Combat Awareness provides 15 defence and 1 armor; Body Shield provides -20 aim (i.e. 20 defence) and -50 critical chance against the targeted enemy. If you have a Specialist you could Aid Protocol for another 20 defence. The spark is now quite hard to hit and flanking one or more enemies; the enemies run the overwatch (which they seem to do often in LWOTC) and Sentinal gives the Spark two shots. If only one shot is taken, Combat Awareness remains active. Cool Under Pressure make the overwatch shots reliable and allow them to crit. Bulwark and Damage Control provide additional armor, if the Spark does get hit through the high defence (65-85 depending on which enemy shoots at it).
I'm undecided about the last perk as I don't understand how Hunter Protocol interacts with Sentinal overwatch during overwatch traps. Hunter Protocol does nothing for the flanking/overwatch tactic against active enemies, so I might just go with Impact Fields for more damage reduction in dicey situations.
Results so far (I'm only up to Body Shield): the +1 armor activates when Combat Awareness is active, but F1 does not show me the +15 defence, hence I'm not sure if it's working. Enemies definitely run the flanking overwatch and the Spark hits reliably. If Combat Awareness is broken (not providing the 15 defence) I'll replace it with Formidable on other Sparks for even more armor.
The core idea of the build is: "Shoot me and miss (or do low damage), or run and get shot from a flank". This is all theory and I'm only playing on veteran, so we'll see how it goes.
Edit: the flanking overwatch only happens after the enemies are revealed, so the Spark may very well have already taken two overwatch shots via Sentinal during the overwatch trap. A Superior Autoloader may be a necessity to ensure that the Spark takes maximum shots (4) in every engagement (I use the mod that allows you to choose when to use the free reload).

I wish the punch was a bit stronger, but the satisfaction rating is off the charts

you can actually have a kinetic strike module if you use the proficiency class pack SPARK plugin. Sadly its not compatible with long war of the chosen

The main problem with the Spark overwatch build is that they will get shot out of overwatch frequently. After all, Sparks don't take cover and have only 30 base defense (which is not enough past the midgame). Taking sentinel instead of repair also eliminates your only source of in-mission healing (unless you hack a drone and it doesn't get killed), and not taking combat awareness (which I support) means that the Spark is more vulnerable in overwatch than they would otherwise be. Hunter Protocol is great, but it's a long wait to get to final rank. I think the overwatch build is only optimal if you're sticking with Sparks on timed guerrilla ops and the retaliations where it's a bunch of reinforcement drops. Taking Bombard + Repair + Damage Control + Impact Fields may work better for those who want a Spark on an HQ assault or a big supply raid. Plus, that allows you to use the Override + Bombard + Shred / Holo-Target Two Exposed Enemies combination, which can be an absolutely devastating turn opener.

7:40 Nova damages the Spark only if used again. For a single use, it's not damaging.

hunter protocol is borderline useless on the long missions (hq raid / late game troop columns) where almost everything is activated with snipers. for those missions i prefer tanky spark + aid protocol + sacrifice for the odd turn where you find yourself facing 2-8man pods). your build does work a LOT better on gops
