AND YES PLEASE DO CHECK OUT MORISHITA'S RENDITION!!!!!! it's PHENOMENAL i was crying fffffffffff they're really doing God's work on the SQEX music channel. Literally the best decision Square has made in recent memory was starting that channel and getting all these top notch musicians to do these fresh new renditions of all their most beloved themes!
One of my all time favorites in VGM. I remember when I shared the song with my brother a some years back, he was awed by the beauty of the piece, and he learned the Zohar arrangement. I loved hearing him practice in the house at the time. I played through Chrono Trigger last year or 2, and arriving in the Kingdom of Zeal with this music going had my smiling ear to ear. It really is an incredible piece.
ahhhh that's such a special memory, hearing your brother practice the Zohar arrangement!!!! ❤️ sometimes I wonder if my family will feel the same about my practicing in the future hahaha it's more of an annoyance to them right now lmaoooo. Zeal is my favorite part of the game and just hearing this song was 99% the reason why, it's such a landmark moment!
Corridors of Time and Dancing Mad are my 2 favorite vgm songs. Dancing Mad is chaotic and full of craziness...and then there's this. Just an absolute emotional tour de force. I've used different variations of Corridors of Time as my ringtone for over a decade. Everybody in my life who has no clue what Chrono Trigger is knows this song because of me lol. Thank you Schala for covering this song. I always love hearing your takes on songs i love, because you always put your entirety into your music, and make it your own. Have you heard Verdegrand's take on the song? I think his is the first piano cover i ever heard of the song
OH MAN TWO ABSOLUTE BANGERS!!! And thanks for the reminder that I need to go back and redo Dancing Mad yeeeesh talk about LONG OVERDUE LOL!!! And YES Verdegrand's cover of Corridors is legendary!! He's the only one who adapted Mathew Valente's remix of Corridors for the ill-fated Chrono Resurrection project all those years ago, with the guitar, and it's fantastic! banger. EDIT: wanna add that your chops are really friggin good here. i have been playing guitar, self taught, for about 20 years, and i don't know my music terminology terribly well. but there's this thing you do that i really enjoy that guitar players also do, but i don't know the name of it. it's basically the opposite of attack i think (perhaps staccato? tried googling around for it). the way you abruptly end the high notes that ring the main melody in at around 0:18 in contrast to letting most of them ring out prior (and directly after) caught me off guard in a really good way. kinda like a hook in a good narrative. tl;dr good shit, love your work.
AH THANKS SO MUCH BUDDY!!!!!!! yeah that's a type of articulation called staccato, probably coupled with the half-pedaling so things don't get too muddy hahaha, or at least that was the intent 😂 I love love love guitarists with all my heart and am supremely jealous of you guys and what you can do, so that means a lot coming from you, thank you!
@@purpleschala Didn't get a notification for this for some reason, came back to listen to it again and saw your response. Cheers! Keep killin' it homie!! also yup, that's the language i needed. never realized there was a term for half-pedaling too, but of course there is. very cool.

Schala, you (among others) have inspired me to finally take up piano again. I have a book with a much simpler arrangement of this piece, and when I finally learned how to play it, I got super emotional, something about being able to play a song that's already loaded for me sometimes overwhelms me. I'm curious, does that still happen for you after so many years?
aww I'm so happy to hear that!!! Yes that still happens to me sometimes too! I hope you're enjoying your piano journey!!!! Chrono Trigger is a great place to pick it up again, I think I have the book you're talking about--well there's the original score book, then there's a thinner book with piano arrangements that are slightly more involved, but still intermediate/early advanced. I'm glad you're rediscovering your skills with that book!
I love your notation for this piece. I didn’t realize that Zohar had disappeared but yes he def is legendary. His ‘Shevat the wind is calling’ is also phenomenal as you well know and his ‘Secret of the Forest’ is one of the most difficult pieces Ive ever learned to play but I stuck with it and can still play it to this day (learned it 15 years ago) and it’s just so fun. If you watch his videos his fingers are insanely long and dexterous and I wonder if he had Marfan’s syndrome like Paganini. It is a huge shame that he is not still active - but you’re right his arrangements have been foundational in the world of VGM music. And of course no one is ever gonna begrudge you any rendition of Corridors of Time the pinnacle of the SNES OST library. Btw Schala have you ever come across that excellent arrangement of the Chrono Trigger Guardian Castle theme ? I had downloaded that video ages ago but it seems to have disappeared from TH-cam
AHHH!! thank you so much for this awesome piece of vgm piano history--I deeply appreciate preservation of our shared community so I'm so glad you downloaded it too, because I've never seen it before! Wish we knew who this person was! It's a very cool arrangement, and a tough one to adapt for piano because the drums and horns are so important ahaha but they did a great job! It feels very on the spot improvised with the variation form, and from the surroundings with the two pianos next to each other it's likely they were at a piano store or at a music school and decided to just sit down and record this. Like I said, really cool little piece of history and thank you for preserving and sharing it!!

Such a beautiful arrangement and performance of a classic! Always love hearing your piano(sis).
MINH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 😍 😍 😍 😍 😍 😍
I'm actually adapting Valente's remix of Schala's Theme for my new version of Schala!! =) Thanks so much for listening and for all the encouraging words, I really enjoy your reading your comments!! OH! And I don't know if you play Another Eden, but there's an Octopath 2 crossover event for that now and I'm reinstalling the game and PRAYING they still have my save file unlike COTC lol!!!
@@purpleschala I've heard of Another Eden but only after CotC launched, so unfortunately never got to try it. And yeah, Verdegrand's take on the 2 remixes he chopped up and pulled out that masterpiece just melts me whenever I relisten
I will DEFINITELY keep my eyes out for Dancing Mad Schala content! I already can't wait lol 😁
I love you purpleschala, thanks for sharing your talent with us.
Thank you so much for listening!!!!! That really means so much!
Oh, such a nice gift coming back to this OST!
CT has the best ones! Corridors might be my favorite and it plays in my favorite part of the game. Such a perfect piece for the perfect game!
Thank you!!! It really felt so good to revisit this one after so many years, it's one of my favorite themes EVER and my favorite part of the game was Enhasa as well!!!!
@@purpleschala Enhasa has Schala and Magus. It has to be a great place! Hahaha
And any time you go back to a CT OST is a great time! You make great covers as always
Just pure perfection...
awww haha far from it, but I'm happy you like it!!! Thank you!!
❤❤❤ So beautiful!!! I love the tweaks you made to the arrangement. And looking forward to more sprinklings of Chrono here and there!
Animalisa that means SO much coming from you, as your version is one of my favorite versions of this, it's so powerful and expressive especially in the extended second half, and you bring so many new things to say. Truly memorable, i come back to it often. Thank you!!!!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️😭😭😭
This has always been one of my favorite pieces of video game music. It's always fun to read your writeups while listening to your performances, and this performance was especially beautiful. Thanks for revisiting this one Ruby!
AWWWW THANK YOU SO, SO MUCH SHEA that's so kind of you to say and means so much!!!!! ❤️ I'm the same way about this one, it'll always be one of my top 5 favorite vgm themes ever, and I'll never get tired of it!
even better than the last time you played it! I cannot add this to my chrono trigger playlist fast enough!
ah thank you so much!!!!!
@@purpleschala hey you are welcome so much!
an absolutely masterpiece played masterfully...thank you for doing such amazing stuff :)
thank you for listening always, and the kind words!!!!! it means so much!!! ❤️
Thank you "distant friend"
thank you always for listening and the kind words!!!! it means so much!
Wow that was so beautiful ❤👏👏
AHHH BRITANEY THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! ❤😍❤😍❤😍
Very fine performance. I love the arrangement, you manage to transcribe the different instruments of the original version onto a single piano. Even though the song is a classic video game cover, your version surprised me. Thanks for sharing!
thank you so much for listening and so glad you liked it!!!!! That means a lot!
OMG!!! YES! Time to listen to this about a thousand times. This is one of your best songs, and you have hundreds of hits. But this piece just hits differently. Maybe it's because you are purple schala and this is like the zeal theme?
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! Thank you Shirayasha, as always!!! the old version was soooo terrible omg I'm so glad I finally have a decent version, which I will probably hate in ten years and re-record it again XD though I'm working on a Schala's theme redo!!
@@purpleschala Nothing you do is ever terrible, but you are right on the self improvement. V.5 is going to be astronomically good
Easily one of my favorite songs, from one of my favorite soundtracks. I think I'll listen to you play this all day today
AHHH thank you!!!!! ❤️ same, def one of my all time faves from one of my all time fave games.!
Majestic, beautifully played with such ease
thank you so much!
so happy to see a rerecording of this!
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! me too!!! It's such a HUGE relief to finally try to do it better justice than I did the first time!!!
@@purpleschala I LOVED THE FIRST ONE TOO but the camera and sound quality upgrade is divine. Then again I sometimes feel nostalgic for 2000s-2010s audio quality strangely
Brings me to tears, this is absolutely incredible
AHH THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! ❤️❤️❤️
Amazing! Love the Chrono OSTs so much
THEY'RE SO GOOD!!!! both games and OSTs very near and dear to my heart
I love the punchiness of this cover! I'll never get tired of hearing this song performed
THANK YOU SO MUCH LORENZO!!!!!! The steel pan drum sound with the bongos and bass in the rhythm section always stood out to me in this theme so punchy and rhythmic was 100% the way to go for my interpretation hahaha. I'm glad that stood out to you!
Cheers! Keep killin' it homie!!
also yup, that's the language i needed. never realized there was a term for half-pedaling too, but of course there is. very cool.
Ruby, Ruby...
You glow 🌟
I love to see you so focused on execution.
Wow, what an AMAZING rendition! I need to check out this Morishita cover you mention as I am unfamiliar with it!
Btw, thank you for your video descriptions. I think I've said it before but I absolutely love the passion and personality you put into them! ❤
Time to check out episode 2 of the podcast!
awww thank you so much Masael!!!!! And yes PLEASE check out Morishita's version--the man NEVER misses! one of the greatest living pianists in the world, and we are blessed with his vgm renditions on piano, it's insane!! And thank you for reading my overly long captions hahaha, I worry about being too long winded so I appreciate your kind words!! Happy holidays!
yeah you sound amazing, and piano does too!!!! 🥰
THANKS SO MUCH GIRL!!!!!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ always means so much coming from you!! Piano is getting tuned this week, and not a moment sooner 😂 HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO YOU AND YOUR FAMILY!!!!!!
Just what I needed to reduce my blood pressure today, thank you
lol thank you so much for listening!! keep that blood pressure down, stress is a killer!!!
Beautiful cover to a wonderful piece, thank you!
thank you so much for listening!!!! So glad you liked it!
I meant to save this video for my watch later cuz i knew i wanted to hear it but i accidently clicked it and it really says something to say that i couldn't stop listening. Fantastic arrangement work, and i love the controlled expressiveness of your playing. You kept it tight but let loose at just the right points.
I'll definitely not mind watching and listening again when i intended to listen in!
Thank you for your work
AHAHAHA oh wow thank you so much!!!!! ❤️ that means a lot, this one has always been in a weird in between place with being overall rather chill but can quickly become uninteresting on solo piano if I'm not attentive to the phrasing lmao so I appreciate your saying that!! also I can't take credit for a lot of the arrangement work for this one, as it was mostly Zohar, only the end part is totally me since I didn't like their written ending lol. Thank you again for the kind words and for listening!!
As ever - you're an inspiration! Bravo!
THANK YOU SO MUCH PETER!!!!!!! ❤️❤️❤️ that means a lot!!!!
Amazing composition, amazing performance. I'm always astounded by a pianist who can pull off the gliss at the start of the song.
thank you so much!!!! that was DEFINITELY the hardest part and took so much slow practice to execute consistently 😭
This is so beautiful! I'm full of emotions because this was literally my childhood! No words can express how amazing this is! 🥺💜
AHHHHHH!!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH NIVRA!!!!! ❤ i hear ya, I WAS OBSESSED with this game and OST when I was young and it was the first game I introduced to my son and he ended up loving it too!!!!!! It holds a very special place in my heart!!!
Masterful. Instantly made my day better

Very beautiful💓 Thx for the positive emotions😊

Wow! That was fantastic. Thank you.
Thank you so much!!!!! So glad you liked it!
Wow amazing job! Love the implemented improvisation notes and chords.
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! I'm glad you liked it!!!
Such a difficult track to render correctly with one piano only, and you did it so perfectly ! I Absolutely love it 👏👏
ahh thank you so much, I appreciate that!!! kudos to Zohar for arranging it in a way for solo piano that encapsulates the essence of this theme! It is really tough to manage all the voices lmao but worth practicing to get it right!
@@purpleschala it do seems really difficult ! Good job 👍
Thank you for sharing!
thank you for listening!!!! it means so much!
Absolutely beautiful arrangement! Thank you so much for the upload. I have so many memories of this song where I left my SNES on just to hear the music. It's really soothing to the soul.
OMG SAME!! There were only three save slots and one of them I always kept at the part in the game when you reach Enhasa for the first time, just so I could listen to Corridors on loop for hours. Also one of the endings plays this theme at the very end with all these stars on the screen and I kept that on for hours as well hahahahaha. Thank you so much for listening and the kind words!! ❤️
Yes! 3 Years ago I commented on Lenna's Theme saying you should do some Chrono Trigger stuff and THIS SONG was the top one I was thinking of! Thanks a lot! Let's see if this'll work again. Song of Tundra from Tactic Ogre pretty please ;P?

YES! Zohar's arrangement of this one is legendary. Can't thank them enough for it!!!!
Brilliant work as always! I'll confess I'm not familiar with Zohar... I'll have to look into them!
thank you so much Stefan!!! haha yes in the very niche field of vgm piano history, they are/were a prominent figure lol
I love this song.

Beautiful
Thank you!
Great arrangement!!
Zohar did a fantastic job on this arrangement!! only a couple tweaks on my part hahaha
You're absolutely awesome! I would really like to hear you play Into the thick of it from Secret of Mana
OMGGGGGGGG I love SOM and the OST and that track is SO ICONIC and one of my faves, along with the one that plays at Gaia's Navel with the funky clarinet solo. I need to do some SOM at some point! Thanks so much for the kind words and listening!!!

@@purpleschala You are welcome! I love your piano work!
My heart is happy you have shared this with the world :)
THANK YOU!!!! i'm so happy you liked it!!!
💝
RIP Schala.
yeah time is speedin up...
I liked your old version but of course you've improved :D
hahaha thank you!!! always trying to be better
Actually I just found the video - thank god I downloaded it
I’ll email it to you
AHHH!! thank you so much for this awesome piece of vgm piano history--I deeply appreciate preservation of our shared community so I'm so glad you downloaded it too, because I've never seen it before!
@@purpleschala my pleasure - I'll try and work on it (I used to be able to play it quite well but dupuytren's and... you know... lack of practice lol. I wanna gtet it back and if I do I'll send you a video
