Super great video again ! Huge The Cure fan here, was super impressed with this new release...
I love that St. Vincent album. She brought back the edge that was missing from 2021's "Daddy's Home" and the instrumentation sounds really good on vinyl.
Would love a top 10 video of your favorite jazz albums, Scot! Not necessarily the most "proggy" jazz records but your favorite! I'm delving deeper into the world of jazz and would love some inspirations!
You should check out my nephew Benson Boone's album, "Fireworks And Rollerblades". It's got his big hit, 'Beautiful Things', but the real gems are most of the other songs. I know I am biased, but when I first heard the album I was struck by how layered it was, and how adventurous his approach to pop was. Also, Trevor Rabin's son, Ryan plays drums on my favorite track called 'There She Goes'.
@TheProgCorner Awesome, Scott. That means a lot! You know, nobody in our family, including him, knew he could sing. Then one day we get a call from his parents that he is the lead in a musical when he was a senior in high school. That was just 5 years ago. It's been astonishing to watch him evolve. I saw his last two tours and it ranks as one of the 5 best vocal performances I have ever seen. All from my little nephew I watched bouncing off the walls at our family get togethers. Yes, he's been doing flips forever! 😀
Hey Scott! Noticed the Klaatu album behind you. Their second album "Hope" is one of the most sophisticated prog albums of all time! The concept story was well crafted, the musicianship was top shelf and the compositions and melodies were inspired! A perfect album!
I understand how hard it is to keep up. I love music in general and remain eclectic. There's a lot that crosses over from yours to mine and there's a lot that doesn't but that's a beautiful thing. Certainly Nick Cave, St Vincent, The Cure, Judas Priest are way up on my love list for '24. I'll dispense with regurgitating your list and mention some worthy listens. Not a crazy list but all are recommended by yours truly. Take a seat and let's go. In random order: 01. Deep Purple-=1 02. Sean Lennon-Asterisms 03. Jesus & Mary Chain-Glasgow Eyes 04. Black Crowes-Happiness Bastards 05. Future Islands-People Who Aren't There 06. The Weeklings-Raspberry Park 07. Four Tet-Three 08. Sweet-Full Circle There, I think that's enough. Just a little something to tickle the eardrums. And was that the shout out to your dog that I was asking about?
When I'm not listening to Prog, I'm usually listening to metal, and your mention of Invincible Shield by Judas Priest is certainly one of the best non-prog albums of the year.

@@TheProgCorner When I think about it , I've listened to over 500 albums this year. It was hard to pick 100 prog and 100 jazz albums. I forgot to put a brilliant album Mundus Inversus by Federico Calcagno Octet on my lists , brilliant and highly recommend avant-garde, chamber jazz with prog influences.
I can only assume you haven’t heard Magdalena Bay’s prog pop concept album Imaginal Disk, doh! 😅A Masterpiece, unbelievably good, best album in decades
Seasons greetings Scot !!! Variety is the spice of life , some great releases this year , and Nick Cave just seems to get better and better. The Last Dinner Party... love this record. Catchy as hell. My pick however is The Cure. Wow , soo good. Cheers for now man. 😍🎵🎵🤘
Great to see Cloud Cult at the Top here, with their wonderful emotional symphonic folk. Their last album, Metamorphosis, was my top non-prog album of 2022, and this one is on top in my list this year as well. I was not aware of the divorce issue, but it is definitely a most moving, emotional, and inspiring album. They need more recognition. Hey Scot! Was wondering where you were. About to shoot you an email. Cool, better late than never! Sweet hat and shirt!! Some good stuff in 2024! 👍☮️👑🐍🙏😎
Where are we “ by Joshua Redman- Jazz, Warren Haynes “ Million Voices Whisper, Blues- and even though it’s decades old Miles Davis “ Bitches Brew “ still sounds amazing. Would recommend if someone wants to jam out and not familiar with Jazz check it out.
I love Prog, I love extreme metal, I love '80s post punk, I love '60s psychedelic, I love grunge I love deathcore, I love '70s classic rock, I love GBV and I love the new Sabrina Carpenter album. How the hell does this happen in one person?
I listen to very little newer non prog. I will hear some of it sometimes on the radio but I typically won't buy it unless it's a long established band with a new album. The Cure has a new album that is highly rated so I will put that on my list but probably not much else. Thanks for doing this show anyway though. It might make me curious so a big thumbs up from me.
@@TheProgCorner I like Elbow. I always thought of them as sort of a cross between PG era Genesis and Radiohead. I had no idea they had a new album out though.
The Make Weird Music YT channel turned me on to an artist recently named Brendan Byrnes, who does microtonal dream pop/rock, which basically consists of 27 notes per octave. It’s really cool exotic sounding stuff, but the songs are great and seem like they have an indie foundation. He put out 2 EPs this year called Transfigured Earth I and II. Really great and one of my favorites of the year.
Hey Panda by the High Llamas is a bit of a departure for them but still well worth a listen. Sisters Friends (featuring guest vocalist Rae Morris) about a homeless woman and her dog, is the best song Sean O'Hagan has written in years.

Frank Black is the man... Bluefinger is one of my all time favorite albums so Ill check the new Pixies out (I see Frank around town from time to time, music stores, coffee shops and the indian restaurants and I was worried the new one would just suck). Agree with you on St. Vincent, I think her addiction to loops is holding her back... hire Steve Gadd and mature in the right way already (love her but its the 1st 2 albums not her cosplay of other artists like Bowie). GBV, right on there. I'm saving the cure for a late night listening session. Ill check out the others.
@@TheProgCorner Marry Me has at points a very cool King Crimson vibe. She was noted at 1 point hanging out on a Crimson message board in the early 2000's.
@@TheProgCorner I feel the production is still overshadowing the performance these days but this latest effort (which is actively campaigning for awards) is an improvement. She is capable of pulling off so much more.
I liked Dua Lipa’s “Radical Optimism” over “Tortured Poets”. It’s full of catchy songs without all of that self-indulgent insider mess that Taylor fell into with this album.
1. The Cure - Songs of A Lost World 2. Nick Cave - Wild God 3. Decemberists - As It Ever Was 4. October Project - Ghost of Childhood 5. Bill Callahan - Resuscitate 6. you know, truth be, I wasn't aware of the Craig and Connie's divorce per I'm not on the Patreon and haven't even seen them live for a few years. But now thinking about it and seeing promotional photos without Connie, I follow it. But it's the kind of thing I'm sure Craig and the band don't share that much at this point. But some of those videos seeing their kids and not Connie, it does make some sense. Alchemy Creek is quite good (I am a Force Field is a banger), although I haven't found myself going back to it as much as some of their others. But Love was kind of the same way, and then it grew on me quite a lot.
A lot of this stuff is progressive in the true sense of the word. Prog rock as become a style and most of it is anything but progressive, it's lost it's original true meaning. Richard Thompson especially is part of the original true prog period. The Cure have always been progressively minded. As Rick Wakeman said about Radiohead, 'I'm sorry lads but you're about as prog as it gets'. True progressive music changes as such the so called style of what is now called Prog Rock is anything but prog. I don't know what you would call it but Prog Rock should drop the Prog because it no longer is.
That's what I like most about you, your not a prog "snob", I, myself listen to a lot of alternative bands, but also prog, jazz, electro, world music, etc. why listening to only one genre of music, I compare that to eating the same thing over and over. Super great video again ! Huge The Cure fan here, was super impressed with this new release...
Fantastic!!!!
my favorite non-prog album was definitely Saviors by Green Day, best album they've done since American Idiot 20 years ago!
Love your picks. Really big fan of Nick Cave. Wild God is one of his best. Love the prog too. Great Channel
Such a great record!!!!
Good stuff, thanks for sharing Scot!
I love that St. Vincent album. She brought back the edge that was missing from 2021's "Daddy's Home" and the instrumentation sounds really good on vinyl.

Also, Trevor Rabin's son, Ryan plays drums on my favorite track called 'There She Goes'.

Hey Panda by the High Llamas is a bit of a departure for them but still well worth a listen. Sisters Friends (featuring guest vocalist Rae Morris) about a homeless woman and her dog, is the best song Sean O'Hagan has written in years.
High Llamas. Great record but I got it too late!!!!

I haven’t heard any album that you mentioned.
Nice!!!!
Yeah!!!! Those first two St Vincent albums are amazing.
I like her a lot too.

you know, truth be, I wasn't aware of the Craig and Connie's divorce per I'm not on the Patreon and haven't even seen them live for a few years.
It’s grown on me so much but, to be fair, I liked this one from the get-go!!!
Wild God by Nick Cave is the best release this year
Excellent album!!!
Couldn't get into it. Tried to listen several times.
You tried!!!!
True!!!
Yo Scot 👍🤟
What they do!!!!
The prog corner guy likes non prog! Ny whole existence is a lie!
Up is down!!!! Black is white!!!!
