  • As a travel vlogger, I had the incredible opportunity to visit the Nizam Museum at Mukarram Mahal, also known as Purani Haveli, in Hyderabad. The museum is located in the old city of Hyderabad and is a testament to the opulence and grandeur of the Nizams of Hyderabad.
The museum houses a vast collection of artifacts, including the personal belongings of the Nizams and gifts that they received from various dignitaries and heads of state.
In 1936, Nizam Mir Osman Ali Khan celebrated the silver jubilee of his reign as the ruler of Hyderabad. To mark the occasion of his silver jubilee, the Nizam was showered with gifts and presents from all over the world. The gifts were a testament to the Nizam's popularity and the respect that he commanded among his subjects and peers. The display includes models of famous buildings made of silver, silver caskets, and other gifts made of silver and gold. The highlight of the exhibit is a gold tiffin box worth crores and a special painting made of crushed precious stones such as yellow sapphire, blue sapphire, emerald, ruby, and diamonds between two mirrors. The painting has a 3D effect, and the Nizam's eyes and shoes shift in the direction that the viewer moves.
Unfortunately, the Nizam Museum at Mukarram Mahal was in the news for a very different reason in 2018. One of the museum's most valuable artifacts, the gold tiffin box worth crores that was gifted to the seventh Nizam, Mir Osman Ali Khan, was stolen from the museum.
The theft occurred on September 3, 2018, and the police immediately launched an investigation into the matter. The theft was a significant blow to the museum, and the police worked tirelessly to recover the stolen artifact.
The theft of the gold tiffin box created a nationwide uproar, and the news was widely covered by the media. The artifact was a symbol of the Nizams' wealth and power and was an essential part of Hyderabad's history and heritage.
The police eventually managed to recover the gold tiffin box after a week-long search operation. The artifact was found hidden in the bushes near a vacant plot in Hyderabad's Banjara Hills area. The police managed to recover the artifact with the help of a CCTV footage that captured the thief leaving the museum with the box.
The recovery of the gold tiffin box was a significant relief for the museum authorities and the people of Hyderabad. The artifact was returned to the museum, and the authorities took additional security measures to prevent any such incidents in the future.
The theft of the gold tiffin box was a reminder of the importance of preserving our cultural heritage and the need to take adequate measures to protect it. The incident also highlighted the need for increased security measures at museums and other places of cultural significance.
Despite the unfortunate incident, the Nizam Museum at Mukarram Mahal continues to be a significant attraction for tourists and locals alike. The museum's collection is a testament to the opulence and grandeur of the Nizams of Hyderabad, and the exhibits provide a unique insight into their lives and culture.
Another fascinating exhibit is the manual lift used by the sixth Nizam, Mir Mehboob Ali Khan. The lift is a testament to the innovative engineering of the time and is a unique sight to see. The photographs of old Hyderabad in the city museum section provide a glimpse into the city's rich history and culture.
The museum also has replicas of Hyderabad's famous diamonds, Jacob, Hope, and Kohinoor. The replicas are a reminder of the immense wealth and power that the Nizams held during their reign.
The world's largest wardrobe that belonged to the sixth Nizam, Mehboob Ali Pasha, is also on display. The wardrobe is an opulent piece of furniture that is a testament to the lavish lifestyle of the Nizams.
One of the most intriguing exhibits at the museum is the Nizam's Museum at Mukarram Mahal. The exhibit showcases the personal belongings of the Nizams and is a unique insight into their lives. The exhibit includes their clothes, accessories, and even their furniture. The exhibit is a testament to the Nizams' love for luxury and extravagance.
The museum is a must-visit for anyone traveling to Hyderabad and is a unique experience that should not be missed.
