Antonia Romaker, first let me say that you are an outstanding teacher. I am very impressed with what you do. May I add a bit of color to the idioms that you described? 1. Get back on the horse: you fall off the horse and now you are scared to ride the horse again. To conquer your fear you are told to get back on the horse. This phrase implies that you conquer your fear by doing what frightens you. 2. Let the cat out of the bag. You reveal a secret. 3. To push someone's buttons implies that a person deliberately annoys another person. Some other idioms: He works like a dog,(he works very hard). He eats like a pig. His goose was cooked( he created his own failure), He toots his own horn ( he boasts). He is pigheaded or bullheaded-(he is very stubborn and won't listen to anyone). He get's my goat ( he annoys me), She eats like a bird (she eats very little).
Well, if you are adding to your library add: He or She is running around like a chicken with it's head cut off! This phrase means the person is coming or going with out purpose or thinking about what they are doing. When killing and cleaning a chicken, if you hold it by the feed, cut its head off and drop it, it will run (for a short period of time) and with no head it cannot be thinking about what it is doing since it has no head.
