    Wish you could have shown more on weld technique, settings, up close view, etc..

    What material do I use to make the weld on hinge collars? Thanks

    Awsome video and information as always👍
    But please get your welder guy a respirator or supplied air hood. I know guys will say o the ventilation is good, but all it takes is a good cloud of that galvanized to the face😬😒

      Thanks Allen!
      You raise a good point. 👍🏻 Such a good point we're going to address it in an upcoming video. It's official company policy to wear a respirator when welding.

    Thanks again, awesome video… I have a request, could you do one on how to build graded Chain Link gates? Thanks guys

    Awesome video! What is the spacing for the horizontals so it doesn’t sit on the ground but matches the top rail? Is it 2” shorter than the height of the fence or more? Thank you!

    What kind of wire welding are you using??

    Really nice video very well explained , you could be Mike Rowe's brother . What size wire do y'all use 30-35 ? Nice jig table . That coping cutter is sweet I've got the old tubing notcher jobber dew thing it works for my piddling . But now that Father Time has come to town most of my stuff gathers dust Glad I found you all's channel. Y'all stay warm up there all the Florida folks are in short sleeve pants. You can put leather chaps on to weld I guess that would be funny. I will look forward for that video from your St. Augustine crew lol y'all have a good dang day.

      @@SWiFenceNow that was a LOL! 😂😅 (11 ga. &9 ga.) as answer for what size wire do y'all use?
      I thought he was asking what size Welding wire the Mig welder is using on the wire feed spool, .030" or .035" ? You are smart & funny too!
      Thanks for all the chain link fence building vids.! Very valuable knowledge!

    Is that pipe galvenized? If it is are you using anything special to weld it?

    Must be nice to have that notching machine. I have to use an old Rockford milling machine to do mine.

  • @jpredt5407
    @jpredt5407 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Great video. But my Friend what you call a cope is called Notch. The machine you have is called a pipe notcher. The definition of a notch is making a U or V shape to fit around the object making contact around the touching surfaces LOL. I've never hear it called cope is like dealing with stress LOL. You should do a Tour of Your guys shop and how you organize it looks like you guys have a good system.

      I don't know... 🤔 A google search seems to show coping and notching as meaning the same thing. 😁

    What if the bottom of your gate needs to be at an angle to keep the gap even at the bottom of the fence?

  • @cfauvel
    @cfauvel 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Fun videos...question. I have 2 gates and one is full on rusted and fallen apart. On the gate that is still good - from outside vertical to out vertical it is 74" would that be considered a standard 6foot/72" gate?....

    • @SWiFence
      @SWiFence  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sounds like you're a little over 6'. We do a standard 6', but you are closer to a true clear opening of 6' once you account for hinges and latch.

    I'm a bit concerned over the zinc fumes. It looks like you should have a bit better venting.

    • @SWiFence
      @SWiFence  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's a valid point, Roger. We'll address that in an upcoming video. It is official company policy to wear a respirator when welding galvanized pipe.

      @@SWiFence I worked at american fence in santee ca. For 15 years the epa came in and put meters on the shop welders and it was ok with the fumes I was looking for a list of the deductions for gates we had a list at american fence so 1 3/8 is like 6 1/4 1 5/8 is like 8 1/4 you don't have that chart do you

    • @rays9033
      @rays9033 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would still wear a respirator. I’m not sure how some EPA monitoring device located in the shop has to do with the fumes being directly inhaled by a person welding. The toxins would be highly concentrated inside and around the mask.

    • @user-wl6ge9gu9v
      @user-wl6ge9gu9v ปีที่แล้ว +2

      EPA cares about air emission pollution- OSHA is the agency giving a shit about what you suck into your lungs. Air sampling is my gig-If you’re welding you should have a good fan or a respirator. That’s the 2c version

  • @LosInmortalesGallos

    Can you build a reliable gate without soldering just using gate corners and clamps?

    • @SWiFence
      @SWiFence  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You don't *have* to weld. There are kits you can get. But this is definitely our method of choice. It's stronger and infinitely customizable since we build exactly what we need.

  • @jgren4048
    @jgren4048 ปีที่แล้ว

    I’d add another 1/2” for that type of latch just because I don’t like binding. Why don’t you? Is it because you haven’t set the posts yet and know that your space will be added then?

  • @coreymacdonald7638

    I want to install gate that will latch on post next to masonry column, but the footing is too far out from the column. What can I do with that? Bolt a post to the column? Use a standoff?

    • @SWiFence
      @SWiFence  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You could try a plated post drilled in to the footer, or perhaps flat-back hinges to the column.

    We were always taught to ground galvanized steel before welding, apparently produces a poisonous gas. Be careful 🤞
