- Over the past two years, Minecraft has had a comeback ever since interest started to decline around 2013/2014. We can attribute part of the resurgence to the widely popular DreamSMP, but it’s more likely that because of the COVID pandemic, Minecraft was a fun and relaxing way for friends to play together during isolation. And even though if you play on PC, you could buy a Minecraft realm from Mojang themselves for $7.99, if you have an old PC lying around chances are it would make an awesome little server for you and your friends to host a simple Minecraft world!

You may have a better time using Ubuntu or some other form of Linux to host - MineOS (to my knowledge) is currently broken.
On the bright side, it's super easy to start a Vanilla server on Linux! And it can be a little difficult to install a forge server, but I just figured it out myself and it's not too bad either.

Thank you, I know is an old video but still was helpful, I was using Pterodactyl Panel and it was a huge pain because if the server for any reason reached its maximum allocated ram (when usually didn't but the panel lied), the server shut down automatically. This panel seems to not do that so far, I am happy with it.

Does MineOS update the Minecraft version by itself? I am going to set this up in my school (because I am one of the IT helpers) and I won’t have much access to it most of the time, so does it update by itself?

can i ask about when it comes to switching off and on the system. Are there scripts to automatically start the server upon pc start, as well as scripts to automatically save and close the server before shutdown?
can you access the mineos webui remotely? or is that a separate thing to set up
Quick question, on Ubuntu Server 20.04.3, running the install_mineos-node script gives a warning with nodejs saying that the version it will install is depreciated. So I was wondering how we upgrade that without messing with the installation? Do I just run `apt install nodejs` afterwards?

What if I want to build my own game server this way: There are lots of websites where you can rent your own server and make it possible other players all around the world to join to it. How to build the same system at home? all I know I have to install the original game to the server pc as well as configure it, need to have a stand-alone server program. Do I need anything else? Minecraft only ever uses one CPU core. Kinda sucks when u want more performance

There is no wget friendly link on the mineOS website anymore. At least, I can't find it.
No they removed it, so I followed the guide to the letter and it still fails to work. I'm out the MineOs door like a shot.

yes it gets replaced unless you have windows in a different hard drive, you need to switch the boot options depending on if you want windows or not

What if you wanna host 1) A minecraft Server, 2) A ragnarok Online Server, 3) a PSO server as well as a file server? Then should you just keep windows?

Out of curiosity, I've been curious about running a minecraft server on a virtual box machine. Would it be possible to do this ubuntu/mineos setup on a VM?
it would be but at that point its useless as all the other windows processes will still be running
Just run the server in the background, why complicate things with a vm?
it would work the exact same, as a vm acts like a normal computer. its useful to test some things or try it out before u do it on a real computer

hey so I'm not sure if you'd be able to help out but I want to leave this comment just in case you may have an answer. I've currently gotten everything setup on the ubuntu side of things however when it comes time to actually sign into the mineos webui through the https you tell us to, it just brings me to a dead page saying it can't be reached. I've added the https part as well as the 8443 at the end and no luck. any chance you'd know how to get through this?

That would probably be a huge bottleneck and your thumbdrive would reach its max write/read quickly

6th video on minecraft server set ups, and I can find any good videos, you either get 10 min videos that just speed through everything or 30 min videos with people who can’t explain anything.

Hey everyone definitely use the LTS version of Unbuntu.. the latest release will pose issues with starting the MineOS server.
- At least I had FATAL on server start and resolved itself after reinstalling LTS.
Also finally after futzing around I got comfortable enough the the command lines approach to swap over to Puffer Panel V2.
So far have spun up a Paper, Forge and Spigot Server on my old i7 980X rig with a bunch of mods on forge (cuz thats what they like).
But will play around with the paper instance but with 24GB ram (yes its a odd config .. has 6 ddr slots on this mobo). Its plenty for our family for a private server and will eventually open up ports if they want to invite friends :)
So thanks on reigniting my old DOS personality and reminding me how fun it is! Liked and Subbed!

I used MineOS inside a jail before, its 10x buggier than just running native

when i try to run the supervisorctl command, it says access denied. Any idea how i can fix that? @Top Spec
you need be a superuser. everytime you see a warning like this, use put "sudo" (without the "") before the command

don't use windows 8
just use cmd its the same command, ssh name@ip

Used the windows terminal to remote into the Linux server to give me a Linux terminal. Hope it helps

Somebody could DDoS your server so keep that in mind, but all you need to do in that case is reset your router by putting a pin at the back of it and pressing it for 10 seconds
this might be a really dumb question but if the server IP is the same as the IP your computer has... doesn't that mean people can find your exact location with the numbers of the server IP?

@Polaris.03 is it for a 1.18 server? I’m having a problem with that version of craft as well, I’ve ran a 1.16 and 1.17 server in the past. You have to install some sort of java update for 1.18 to work :/

You should download Ubuntu Server and then install mine-os as a package as I showed in the video. The video and links in the description will show you how to do that.
