having swallows and other birds fly behind a tractor as you mow is a sign of good ecological stewardship of the land. Very nice!! For those who don't understand, there are plenty of insects hopping, jumping, flying etc out of the grass and birds are feasting on them. If one were to use pesticides, the field would be sterile without life and no bugs for the birds to feast. Its just another sign to tell if the farmer is practicing holistic management of the soil.
Putt putting along on my old Ford tractors is about the most relaxing part of my day, whether it is freezing or blazing hot. There is something inherently relaxing in the rhythm of the old workhorses continuing to do their job close to 80 years later.
And I like the sound of the H and the sickle bar mower! Got the Frank joke. OH Pete! Bread in captivity?! Oh my! Does that just smell wonderful? Rain and the newly mowed hay meadow? Enjoyed it as I do them all. Thanks Pete!
When you came off that field and geared up that tractor on the highway, the sound of the tractor going faster brought back sweet memories for me as that was the sound of coming home from bailing in the heat! Thanks!
Absolutely! I’m now 63 and the sound of the farmall going into the road gear was etched into my memory as a kid. That sound always takes me back. Same with the sickle mower.
@@donnebes9421 Yes, obviously etched into my head too. Hay bailing period is something I'll never forget. Straw bailing was much better as straw bails were very light. Ahh, the good old days. When I listen to "The Farmer Song" by McLaughlin it brings tears to my eyes. "Dusty old farmer, out working the fields, hanging down over the old tractor wheel....." You have a fine day wherever you are! (I'm in BC Canada)
Pete, you put so much skill, energy, and effort into everything you do. But you smile so much that I'm not sure that everyone who watches you would count this as "work", not in the way that many of us would use that word. :) Thanks for sharing your passion, positivity and good vibes in another great video!
My husband is 76 and retired and still works outside most of the day on our property. When asked how he works so hard he says " are you kidding ? I've never worked a day in my life! I'm playing out here in the dirt with my big boy toys!
Gotta love the image of a farmer taking shelter under a tree in the rain. something I have never had the experience of, having always had cabs or at least a roof on our tractors. Definitely had it tougher those old timers!
Hey Pete. Get yourself a Chestnut Tools Wrench extender. It's a handle that clips onto most wrenches and holds them in place with magnets. Much safer and comfortable to use than linking wrenches together. They are not too expensive and they will prevent your hands from getting hurt. I keep a couple of them around the farm so there's no excuse not to use them.
Watching this from the Island of Skye off the North West of Scotland. Admire your dedication to old school working methods and empathy with your livestock. The contrast in grass growth where you are and the appalling drought currently being experienced in the State of Wyoming for instance should be of grave to concern to all of us on this planet. Thanks for sharing your lives among your few acres.
🤣🤣🤣🤣 you're killing me, Pete! Side note... In my youth I worked at a country club on the grounds crew. We had a couple older gentlemen that worked with us mainly mowing the rough and fields bordering the golf course. They would use a sickle bar mower for the tall grass fields. Well one day old Pete, yes his name was Pete, had is most favorite hat in the while world blow off his head due to the wind and wosh right into the mower it went. He came back all upset and said" I ain't never running that thing again!" We almost died laughing.
Pete! We've waited long enough. Wanna see Henry driving that tractor. Plz & ty Man just love you. Happiest most gratified video ever. Hay in the barn, fresh meat in the freezer & new calves on grass. Truly a blessed man!
When you pulled out on the highway, shifted into road gear and eased out in the clutch… man that muffler sound took me back to driving my grandpa’s Farmall 140. I could see me with the cultivators and side dresser on it heading to the other farms to plow tobacco. Great memories for hard work and a sore neck. But I loved it.
Ya gotta love a Farmall H. One of the greatest tractors ever built in my opion....we have 2 on our farm...my great grandpa bought our oldest one brand new
my wife lovingly and jokingly tells her brother that I LOVE mowing. And she's right. since we've gotten our two acre "forever home" and we've had a REALLY wet spring and summer to this point, keeping the two acres mowed with an old Craftsman 42" mower requires at least weekly (if not more often) mowing. Wait ten days and it's a foot tall!! Love your vids and commentary. Keep em coming. Listening to you mow (and tell jokes) is the next best thing to being out there doing my own mowing!
Pete, great to see you mowing with sickle mower. It looks like a fine job and it's great to see the the old equipment in use. Back in the day we had a quick hitch sickle mower on the 560 IHC FARMALL,cut all the alfalfa hay for baling with the IHC 46t baler, memories of past years.
We have two swallow nests above the front door into our house and they are great at keeping salesmen from ringing the doorbell! Amazing little hungry birds. Another great video.
Good afternoon Pete, and I will bet that old H is so fuel efficient you don't have to refuel all day. And you don't have to make a payment at the new IH dealer. We have some local farmers that owe the John Deer dealer their whole crop and have to work a factory job to make up the difference. Take care and enjoy your lifestyle. Great video.
I've never seen a herd of cattle all having grins on their faces before! Great use of the fields after the cutting. Thanks for taking the time to take us along, Pete.
Pete cannot truly explain how much I appreciate the effort that you devote to the good life am always looking forward to your next video. Happy birthday USA the farmers will always be here for you!
Gunny012 Like your videos it takes me back to my childhood growing up on the family farm you look at it as a joy To do even though it hard work at times I have been a machinist for 32 years now and go back to the farm mainly in the fall to help where I can with harvest it kinda make you feel complete or makes you appreciate what you have Thank you KG
Horse nettles! Thank you! I was wondering what that horrible stuff was growing out in my fields. Now I know. Watching the swallows swoop in was always one of my favorite parts of baling hay.
Talk about a trap down memory lane. When I was a kid my dad would have me take the old international 140 with the sickle bar and trim the pastures to keep the summer weeds from seeding. Being 12 and turned loose without adult supervision was the best thing ever. Sometimes I miss the farm and other times I dont.
I have to stop watching you do your thing on the farm. Well not really but you keep pushing my mind back 70 years when I was 10 years old driving the M on the sickle mower. What I wouldn't give right now to be back in that era again and living on the farm. Thanks so much for posting your great videos.
Hello Pete Hillary great video thanks your hard work. Finally I can get a hair cut next week I cant wait. Your cattle look great just awesome. We came across about 30 acres to bale small squares so will be busy next few days week or so providing the weather is good lol. Once again great entertainment thankyou. Have a good day.
I enjoy all your videos for having a great day my wife is having problems but I love your old equipment and the cows how they are so demanding and yell at you telling you to hurry up. Keep up the good work.
Pete thanks for the video which brought back memories of my grandfather using his orange tractor (I think it was an Allis) and the cycle bar mower. I was a city boy fascinated with his farm. Oh those memories
I enjoyed this one because it reminded me of our Farmall M, some 6 or more decades ago. I had forgotten that Farmall sound, the hydraulic rod control and what it looked like from the seat. Dad mostly drove that while I was on the "B" or the Oliver 77 (or was it 770?, long time ago, my teen years.
I have a tiny 2ft long sickle bar mower I got for my garden tractor. I need to make a 3 point adapter for it so it lines up with my motors belt pulley. Won’t be as effective as the 40in mower deck but I think it will be a lot more fun.
Swallows certainly are precision fliers. I watched a pair of them fly over the calm waters of my pond; They swooped in at 30mph, and dropped their bottom beak into the water, to make a line 15 foot long, whilst they caught some insects.
Yep Pete another great video. I"m 78 and past my time in the fields (used to be a Hay Dealer) so like watching someone else do all the work and actually enjoy doing it. spent my share of time on the IH line. That H purrs like a kitten, it hard to tell who is more content you or the tractor!. I love the drone shots too who's controlling it someone else or you? The drone shots five a really good perspective of what you are doing with each field. a lot of views might not know what you are up too, so one picture is worth a thousand words as the old saying goes. Thanks for dong them and can't wait for the update on the M.
Excellent video Pete :) yes Sickle Mower job lots fun for sure and great drone video too ! Also Happy July 4th 2021 Impendence Day to everyone and be safe too!
I always enjoy watching you work the classics, it was awesome to see how to start that tractor and see how the lift works. Great knowledge to gain. I do enjoy watching all your videos because they are all educational.
Clipping pastures sure make a lot of sense. Pete, you are a wonderful inspiration using sensible farming operations. You have a good looking 30 acre farm with wonderful animals.
That's a really nice tractor! I have a 48 8n and wish I had a Farmall. Problem is the older ones dont have 3 or hitches so you can only use the older attachments.
Love to see the shots when you're looking out across the front of the H!!! Reminds me of when I'd ride with Dad on our H back on our farm in Minnesota!!!👨🌾🙂👨🌾🙂👨🌾
I use and love to watch a sharp sickle bar mower. Pete , weather permitting, you could rake that and give your small square baler some exercise. You would be surprised how many bales you would get.
Frank&Stine, sounds like a law firm to me!! Nothing sounds better than the clatter of a sickle bar mower, would sound better if you had a John Deere B hooked to it!! Good job on clipping the pasture, you're right
i love watching you run the farmalls everytime, i didn't have a chance to run the cycle mower for the farmer years ago but helped with everything else for several years
I love your H , I know it may be louder but I would recommend a straight pipe ,theres nothing like the cackle of a 40s or 50s 4 cylinder farmall lol ,I mow with mine it has a 350 farmall engine, I tractor pulled with it 30 years ago lol
Pete, I always wondered about this when I would see a half-eaten, half-trampled field. It looked messy to me and I always wondered if farmers ever trimmed it down. This is very gratifying to know that my instincts were right. Another win! It satisfies those of us who like a good-looking field.
WHO ELSE LOVES THE SOUNDS OF A SICKLEBAR MOWWER??
Chkchkchckchkchckchkchkchk
💯
And the smell of freshly cut grass...
@@josephmoilliet8194 ya they should TO ME :)
I do and I love the sound, it's like using a set of hedge cutters

Love it watching an listening to the sounds of tractor an mower an also the action an the end results of a good day’s accomplishment
Best part was watching the calves frolic behind during the closing ❤️❤️❤️
And I like the sound of the H and the sickle bar mower!

The camera work is freakin amazing Pete !!!aside from all the great farm work u do
Watching pastures being clipped contends with watching snow drifts being removed from greenhouses as oddly mesmerising 😍

Hay in the barn, fresh meat in the freezer & new calves on grass. Truly a blessed man!
And two good jokes to boot!
It's amazing how good an old hunk of iron like a Farmall H sounds!!
When you pulled out on the highway, shifted into road gear and eased out in the clutch… man that muffler sound took me back to driving my grandpa’s Farmall 140. Oh my these videos bring back so many precious memories. Thank you Pete.
Got to love a narrow front. Only time I would take a wide over a narrow is if it has a loader on it. Also got to love the sound of a sickle

at the end of video the calves were running and playing. really another great vid. reason 6 is it's relaxing to run the tractor.
New sub here. You got me with the mention of swallows. I find them entertaining when mowing hay. Great content
I love the front mount camera you can see the mower and and you controlling that tractor like a old time pro
Came because of the H rebuild.
Stayed because of the entertaining farming content!

Nice video! Felt like we were hanging out on the farm, and you only ran us over a few times! Looking forward to small farm Subaru video
In Iowa we call your swather a dividing board, mine was made of wood, on end of the mower
Love watching you cut the grass. It's a learning experience

Great video Pete. I love using the sickle bar on my H as well. The sound of it is just so soothing

Nice jokes. I could watch that mower all day. The grass Zamboni, on that nice flat field.
Love that road gear of the H's!
Hey Pete, keep up the fine content, reminds me of my youth 😆
You'll pass 500k subs soon enough!
Boy do I like that Sicklebar that’s a great idea for cutting the pasture for the boys
I love your tractor it looks like the same tractor what my dad used to have I wish I had one

Always enjoy your videos Pete. Informative, serious when you have to be, but always just the right amount of humor !! :) :)
Thanks for the wholesome content. New subscriber here. My family farmed with Farmall tractors. Nice to see you using them 😊
I love that sound 6:03
Another great 👍 interesting video, thanks 🙏 so much Pete.
Proper fences and sheep rotation and a little rotary pasture topping up but guess the sheep could not take the NYS winters?
Takes me back to when I was a kid riding my grandpa's ford 8n mowing ditches . . . good times.
That camera editing is a wonderful thing you hook that mower up in like 2 seconds it always took me 2 hours it seems like to hookup those type mowers.
Mike Mullins, not to mention cutting a field in 15 minutes!
Hi Pete. Definitely enjoyed the video, I got the Frankenstein joke before you explained it.
A little rain will only help the sickle-bar mow more smoothly and quietly. No prob.....so long as you're just clipping and not making hay.
