- The 2023 Corvette C8 Z06 ($128,000 in Canada, $106,000 in the US) is undoubtedly loud, brash, and ripping fast. But the Dodge Demon ($109,995 original msrp in Canada, $84,995 in the US) has been tearing up drag strips and revving at traffic lights since 2018. So what happens when you pit these two American monsters against one another at Willow Springs Raceway in California? The Demon has a significant power and torque advantage, but the C8 Z06 has multiple weight advantages. One being that it is simply lighter, but the other is where the weight of the engine resides - over the rear wheels. This makes it easier for the Corvette to find traction off a launch and hopefully help it avoid pesky wheel spin.

The Demon could've been 6 car lengths behind the Z06 in the roll race and I still wouldn't care - I love that both exist.

I followed the Challenger since it was an idea and a concept car ( it took a while for it to go from concept to production ) and was very DETERMINED to buy one when they were released .
The real car met expectations of the concept car design wise , but when it was released I was CRUSHED . It was a fat pig on re used architecture that only looked great and was not special in any other way that I wanted and that people were expecting .
I wanted something that looked like the 60s that drove more like a sports car / euro car that would turn and stop PLUS was over powered like a big block Cuda . A car that made people shut their mouths about how bad American cars were .
I didn't care if it wasn't completely as good but I wanted it ( this was inferred over the MANY YEARS the Challenger was teased and being designed and prototyped for production ) to be UNDENIABLE the way the new Z06 is undeniable even if it's not the greatest or the C8 in general in the way it met or exceeded expectations .
When the Challenger was released it was SOO DISAPOINTING when it was tested and reviewed and it was found out that it didn't do anything special performance wise and was actually shitty as a performance car because It was completely under funded and used a heavy old Mercedes chassis . It wasn't even particularly fast in a straightline with its " New Hemi " power plant .
It was completely underwhelming and did nothing to kill the American muscle cars suck for driving and aren't even as fast as their reputation idea because they are big fat cars that prefer spinning tires then going fast .
I was heart broken and the car stayed the same even though they added power . The Demon is a joke car with more power then it can use and more videos of lesser cars with better designs and ability to get traction beating them in the ONE thing they should do well at which is drag racing. The Mythical #s with a stupid key and skinny fronts is mostly a marketing ploy and in the real world they are silly cars that sit and spin while driving around looking for gas stations .
I could care less if they exist and I was a HUGE FAN and so excited when they announced they were green lighting the project and were gonna keep the 60s design language but have a car that got rid of muscle car stereotypes except for the one of being powerful and yet they didn't because the car was fat and didn't have big contact patch and sucked in other ways so it didn't compete as a driver's car either . Wasn't a beast as a muscle car nor as a sporty car or anything beyond a cool neo retro design on leftover parts .
They look great but create zero want for me which shocked me after waiting and wanting for years like a kid on Christmas for my wish list only to find an itchy sweater and a turd . Most dissapoihting car ever for me .

I'm glad you had the privelege to imagine owning one at all; being able to buy a brand new car is a bit of a dream. If you ever had enough money to contemplate such a purchase, you should probably take some time to look at how insignificant your "struggle" with Dodge is when most people can't afford any new car, let alone something "fun."

Crazy part is the C8 isn’t designed to be a drag car, it’s a superior road course car, that’s just so good it’s hard to beat it in a drag race as well lol. Both are amazing examples of engineering, but that C8 redefines everything. Damn near 700 horses and naturally aspirated, from a small block. And it is a beast on the track, as well.

That ZO6 is amazing. Even won in a 1/4 mile roll race against a 840hp Demon. Weight reduction is the most important mod you can do. It shows here with the cars having a 850lb weight difference.

Really impressive for the ZO6 that’s a naturally aspirated engine. No induction at all and puts out 670 horsepower, absolutely insane production from GM. Imagine slapping a surpercharger on it like the demon.
I think the ZR1 may have twin turbochargers… which would make it even more insane.

The Zora, I believe, will be everything in the ZR1 as well as a Twin Turbo System.

I’d gladly take either of those cars but if I had to pick one, I think I’d still pick the demon, it may have a hard time putting the power down and I doubt it would be any good in the turns but for an everyday driver that u can still have fun in, I just think the overall driving experience would be more pleasurable. Like they said in the video, it’s an 800 hp couch, comfy and fun.
I would take the Z06 all day long Dodgers quality sucks especially with a supercharger and the Dodge has known electrical issues with all their vehicles.
@@richardcerritelli9657 every car from every manufacture has its own list of issues, some are quality issues and some are issues that arise from poor maintenance and beating the hell out of a car. A lot of people don’t understand that there is a break in period for new cars especially high powered cars, during the break in ur not supposed to go over a certain rpm, or do any hard accelerations. That combined with a turbo or supercharger and a lack of knowledge on how to maintain them can lead to very premature failures and issues. And as far as electrical issues, that’s been a major issue for every manufacturer since 96 when they made obd2 a requirement and started adding more and more computer controlled systems and luxuries, back in the early 90s and everything older than that, there were little or no computer systems, driving was an experience, u could feel everything the car did and they were much easier to work on with a lot less electronic crap to fail. Manufacturers are also building cars to fail at specific mileage and timeframe to make more money, it’s called planned obsolescence.

Not really, Demon in that mode instead of the 1000hp mode is only about 100-110rwhp more than the C8z06 but it weighs around 550lbs more.

Thomas, I am a Demon guy and one of the complainers in your past Demon challenges. This one was as fair as it could be. Most all of the demon capability was used (especially 840HP) and the best car won. But I would still pick my Demon for the reasons you displayed on the run. It's just comical to drive and it always puts a grin on my face. Throttle House is the best.

Like Thomas said, the Dodge is running old tech. But I'd still take the Demon over the Vette. The new Chevy is growing on me only because of its performance but the look hasn't yet. If I were an Italian supercar automaker, I'd sue Chevrolet... 🤣🤣

I love both cars. Both designed for completely different purposes but still impressive even with all the downforce of the vette!
They Demon takes so much skill and time to launch correctly. People usually launch in 2nd gear and set the launch RPM to 1500, and it hooks well.
@rift33srt95 the Demon Launch control allows you to set Launch RPM and gear so far different then the Hellcat. Which has a worthless Launch control unless on a great prepped track.
@rift33srt95 the Demon has the same setup as the Dragpak just less powerful and weight is up due to street legal requirements.
Epic !!! You got to appreciate what Dodge and Chevrolet have built and is sold to the public!!! Both Demon and Z06 are truly amazing in performance and style. These two cars have really raised the bar for American built cars.

@Aaron Collins they said the vetted hooked pretty well. 0-60 in prefect conditions both cars are pretty well matched but in the 1/4 the demon would take it. It's all about the launch.

Not sure why you'd think that when the Demon has 840hp. That's 170hp more than the Z06. With traction not being as much of a factor I thought the Demon was going to easily pull away. Corvettes punching way above their weight class as usual.

The horsepower is what brought it back. That's all it had over the Z06 and it wasn't enough.
I'm a Chevy guy all day but I'm still amazed that the Demon didn't walk the Z06 in the roll race, especially since the Z06 is described by those who own it to "fall on its face on the top end". Well done GM!! I cant wait for the ZR1...it's going to be the KING of American cars for sure.

True! I'm a GM guy too (I like the CT5V-Blackwing). They put all of their eggs in 1/4 mile up to mid-range but not top end. The Z06 should have walked away just like it did from the start. But I did love how it walked away from jump street!

I love watching these drag races but one of the most important part as far as I'm concerned is how fast did the cars go. That's like 70% of the information I would like to know. I know you can look it up and find out how fast their suppose to go but how fast did it go in the race

Maybe the Demon wasn’t faster but the smile on Thomas’s face while losing and the smile on James face looking at that big beast staying right with him on the roll race shows what the SRT platform is all about.
You may not be the fastest on public road from light to light but you’re probably having more fun due to the raw power and adrenaline flowing through the car into you.

Not really , they have a ton of comfort stuff , AC ( that gets diverted but still no track car runs AC ) . If it were a track car it would have more lightweight features , it's definitely meant to be a street car that happens to have hard to hit #s on a prepped surface but bragging rights to first car that does a wheelie and some other records .PLENTY of people who own them never make it to a drag strip or go once and put 15k or more miles a year using it as transportation / fun street car . My understanding is, anybody's grandmother can drive the car very easily and wouldn't know how much power it has without mashing it and that it's a comfy car and good for family because back seats . I guess there is a rear seat delete . But it's just a Challenger which is/ was already an old Mercedes when they released the first challengers and has been updated a bit , most notably adding HP and NAMES but still an old heavy Mercedes at heart

The vette is literally a brand new car, new chassis and new motor. The challenger on the other hand is running on the same chassis since 2008 😅
@@davsquaredo79demon was 2018 model year, c8 corvette was 2020 model year. A 2 year difference between the two is frankly embarrassing for dodge
I would like to see a 2022 or 2023 comparison from Dodge like their new electric SRT or a red eye and then do it again with the new computers and all that stuff

Apples to oranges comparison tbh. Both are automotive engineering marvels and designed to accel at different things. I own a 22 Challenger hellcat and absolutely love it, but I also deeply appreciate the C8 transformation to mid engine super car and think it was long overdue! What's being lost in these comments between the "my big brother can beat up your big brother" crowd is the fact that they are both historic examples of American ingenuity! We're watching automobile history unfold here, and most of you don't even know it! Look past your bias between brands and appreciate both of these brilliantly engineered automobiles! Your grandchildren will ask you about them someday!

Z06 is amazing, ZR1 will be unreal and the Zora will be godly
Yeah so far word on the street is the ZR1 will have a very conservative 950 horsepower and with full bolt-on mods plus race gas tune and straight piped exhaust with methane injection and an ice tank God knows how much power it might make we could see 1500 horsepower out of full bolt on ZR-1's, and the Zora will have the ZR-1's power plus an extra 350 or so horsepower from very high quality electric batteries for the front wheels.... so just try to imagine a Zora with full bolt-on mods, a straight piped exhaust, methane injection, an Ice tank in the trunk, and a dedicated race gas tune, with upgraded and strengthened transmission, because the Zora should have, word is about 1250 horsepower or more Factory bone stock..... so we're definitely going to see tuners boosting these to close to 2,000 horsepower with all-wheel drive, so it's going to get nasty out there, and just imagine when someone has a bored stroked stroker kit for the zr1 and Zora, which will take it even farther..
Zr1 could dethrone the sledgehammer corvette of the 80s and build the fastest vette ever to match its exotic nature. GM has the platform to go after hypercars now

@@jostrander71 I understand I'm just stating what I've heard from people who've either worked at Chevrolet corporate or at Chevy dealerships they're saying the actual horsepower is going to be 950 unless they just lie about it so that's what I've heard so far and also heard that's just on the standard 91 octane s***** pump gas not even 93 or 98 octane so God knows what the aftermarket tuners are going to do even with just full bolt on month and then remember you have to add at least a few hundred horsepower on top of that plus all-wheel drive to equal what the Zora's going to be able to accomplish which is just mind blowing not even including aftermarket modifications

The C8 really is insane. Almost half the tq numbers bout only 800lbs difference, plus the added drag from the aero. It’s really something else.

You are absolutely right! Besides I care more about being a legend rather than winning a quarter mile race which only lasts for 11 seconds, but being a legend lasts forever. That's a true Corvette name

Don’t forget about the Z07 package has all that downforce. If it was a base Z06 it might have did better in the roll race
