I bought an Affinity 5 string a number of years back and it's become my main instrument... And then the bastards release this unit... instant preorder! The Affinity series is really really good y'all!
I’m really glad Fender decided to go with an affordable 6 string bass, hopefully they are able to get enough feedback on it and consider developing a higher-quality one in the future!
It's not impossible but it's very counterproductive, it's like flying a plane before you can even drive a car. Practically speaking you're only getting 5-12 extra notes with a 5 or 6 and in return you have to deal with those 2 strings all the time whether or not you're using them, also the neck is a lot wider.
I jumped to 6 string on my 2nd bass. It’s for beginners. And I wish this was available when I started 31 years ago. But, I own one now, and it’s awesome…
I bought the 5 string version of this bass. I must admit, Squire / Fender has hit a home run with this line of Affinity Series basses, especially for the price.
@@EmpireMusicPgh Victor Bailey and Steve Bailey are two different players and they have both had signature basses from Fender. Victor had a 4 and 5 string Jazz Bass in the Signature series from 2001-2011. Steve had his 6 string from 2009-2011.
This is an absolute steal for anyone looking for an inexpensive intro to six string bassesl! I can’t think of another sixer under $1,000. I checked out the 5-string version at my dealer. It had a touch of fret sprout, but nothing I couldn’t fix with an hour or less of labour. The pickups are a bit harsh, but it gives it a nice approximation of an active Jazz, and offers good definition on the B string. Just roll the tone back, and it sounds very much like a more expensive Fender.
I tried one recently. Quite comfortable. It's not bad for the price. With the money you save, take it to a good tech to dress the fret ends and give it a good set up. I was tempted to get one just because I've always wanted a Steve Bailey Fender 6-string but they are hard to find now. But I have three sixers already and I'm not keen on buying products of the PRC.
I just picked one of these up the other day--this bass is not a joke. From a distance I think you might actually think it's a 5-string Jazz. Great fret finishing and feel. The tones are completely usable and the C string isn't as thin sounding as you might think. I picked it up and immediately started playing drop-2 chords; they sound great. It doesn't have 24 frets, but on the other hand that would make it look a little too modern--it flies under the radar by looking a little vintage and and that's worth something for a 6.
Wife got me this for a Christmas gift. Can’t wait to open it and start modding it out! Already ordered a drop-in preamp and found some pickups that I believe will fit! I’m going to have fun with this project!
Ok you can always do a drop-in preamp for jazz basses. J- Retro, John East, Ken Smith, Sadowsky to name a few. Also just google 6 string Jazz Bass pickups and go from there. FYI for pickup purposes, the string spacing is 17mm. Good luck to you.
Love making chords, and this big buddy made by Squier smiles me everytime i listening that low B in every review/demo on the web. Man, that JazzBass is gold in the price six string bass deparment. Thank you for share this Anthony.💪🏾 Saludos 🇻🇪
This is awesome. I got a six string ibanez gio a couple years ago. Been play a four for over 20 years but I've been enjoying the six and I love the way this sounds.
To get a dubby P bass like sound out of a J bass, turn the tone and bridge volume all the way down, then back the neck volume off 5-10%. You'll hear the change in tone.
Only 329 was exactly what I thought. I ordered one right after I heard about it. I just gotta know for myself and if it is good. Cheap entry into 6 string bass grooves.
I’ve never been a fan of Fenders B string, I would go with Lakland Jazz their 35” scale their B string is massive! Great review! Great price, great first 6er bass
I always prefer a 35 for a B... but Fenders have a come A LONG way w/ the voicing of the B Strings. I have a Modulus and an Elrick w/ 35's... they're also killer! (None of which are $329.. lol) Thanks for watching -Anthony
I, like you, like the Jazz Bass for its all open tone. BUT my second use for a JB is the neck pickup soloed. I really liked the neck pickup tone on this bass, at least the way you play it. A little dimming of the tone may deal with that excessive snap you don't like.
I agree, that helps for sure. This basses neck pickup soloed, was just a bit underwhelming in general... but at that price, who cares lol! Thanks for watching - Anthony
I bought the 5 string version for $270. After a setup it plays great. I am interested in the maple fretboard version of this bass...only because I don't have one in my arsenal
It's a bass that, if it sells well, could pave the way for a Fender six-string made in the USA or made in Mexico. It would be interesting if Fender finally created a six-string PJ with 22 frets and a 12" radius. An instrument like this could give Yamaha's excellent BBP35 a run for its money, which with its PJ is doing really well on the market. Fender PJ six strings would be a fantastic bass!!! Who knows if Fender wouldn't give it a thought...
The difference when a person is a bassist lol. I purchased a Squire P Bass and put some EMGs in it. I'm still trying to figure out how I can get the action down without fret buzz. Overall, I think the Squires must be OK. I keep hearing good things. I see guys like you playing them. The young lady on SBL plays a Squire a lot. BassBuzz plays one. Wish I could figure it out better. For now for the price it's fine.
Great review. I’ve been thinking about this as a possible stand-in for my Steve Bailey Signature. Some reviews say the pick-ups lack volume. Do you know if the Nordstrand pick-ups would fit?
Thank you 😊 for the Review of the New Squier Affinity 6 String Jazz Bass and the Jazz bass Sounds 🔊 Great and Absolutely Amazing ❤ I Don't Play 6 String Bass Guitar ❤❤❤❤💯💯💯💯💯💯
Seems silly to extend the range and not make it 24 frets. Especially when they had the CNC programming for the Steve Bailey model already saved somewhere.
A good bass sound comes from … practice ! Great comment anthony. But what if I want my great sound to also sound like a ‘58 empire special - well theres one thing to do!
I have to play one, my love is bass guitar, but play guitars now. But I’m picky on bass more so than guitar. You can get many guitars, but that bass🥹 I rather have a good bass. Just me my opinion. I need 2 that would do the job. If they are good.😅 doesn’t mean expensive, but what can i record with.
Got one in Australia for $599 as I was wanting a six string. feels great as an entry point rather than dropping 2 to 3 K on a Warwick or Yamaha or something else. Great to see a positive review of a great instrument.
Put a tone styler or one of the other passive electronic bass systems on it, and it would be a monster performer, a lot of capabilities here. Do your homework.
Funny. He’s been playing for years and has been playing 6 string for a year and he doesn’t think 6 string is right for a beginner…. I’ve been playing for 31 years and started 6 string 30 years ago and I believe that handing a beginner a 6 string in their 1st year is a better idea than giving a pro a 6 string in his 30th year…. 😂😂
SO many ways to do it... no right or wrong. I DO think someone should start on a 4, and wish that I did (started on 5). My personal experience is that of making WAY better musical decisions on a 4 string as player earlier in my journey. I'm glad starting and continuing on a 6 was the correct way for YOU. Thanks for watching and commenting - Anthony

Some people complain when I don;'t talk enough, some want just playing. It's a fine line w/ content creation. I DO put time stamps on the video (normally) so people can skip to what they want to see/hear. I'll always admit that I'm long-winded at times, and try to reign it it... but I get excited about cool stuff!! Thanks for your feedback, and for watching - Anthony
@EmpireMusicPgh talking about the product is great but you repeat the same line over and over again in your segments it's a speech thing that you need to address because it's annoying 🙃
I would disagree with all of that brief statement. I respect your opinion, but disagree, I felt this bass was quite the opposite. The beauty of what we do though... there is no right or wrong. If you're inspired on an instrument , PLAY IT AND LOVE IT. Thanks for watching -Anthony
I try to use my personal basses as reference points for comparison's sake... not to brag. I'm lucky to own some nice basses, and they help me to understand value in lower price points and to hopefully be able to give a perspective to our customers. To say a beginner or newer player shouldn’t or can’t play a five or six is just wrong. Play what you like and what inspires you to learn.
If you practice enough you'll eventually get used to the 6 strings, just as a 4 string.
beginners should start with a one string bass. all the notes you need.
@@duschendestroyer just take 5 strings out.

I'm a four string man but this sounds dope!! If I closed my eyes and wasn't told this was a sub $400 bass I'd never guess.
Don't forget that they did make a Steve Bailey signature jazz 6
They did!!! Those are GREAT BASSES! Forgot about that.. RIP Victor, somehow he is criminally overlooked. Thanks for watching - Anthony
For better or worse, I think they only made for about a year. We went to Warwick after that.
