This version is actually the 3rd version of A Star is Born. The first was a straight drama without music in 1937 with Janet Gaynor & Fredric March, that was followed by the first musical treatment (and in my opinion the best film of the material) in 1954 with Judy Garland & James Mason. Both of those were set in the world of film but this remake with Barbra and the more recent one are set in the world of music. Interesting fact: in all the other versions but this one both the leading actress and actor were Oscar nominated but didn't win (in Judy's case her loss was very controversial) however Barbra, who cowrote Evergreen, was Oscar nominated for Best Song and won in that category! Barbra has been performing professionally since she was 19, so over 60 years now and has had an album chart on the Top 25 in every decade since the 1960's. The only female performer to do so, Bob Dylan is the only male to match the feat. It seems incredible now with the career she's had but she got her start when she won a talent contest in a Greenwich Village gay bar named The Lion where the prize was a week's engagement for 50 bucks and free food! Word spread from there and she played the supper club circuit (a very big deal in the sixties) then a scene stealing small part in a Broadway show, followed by her landing the leading role of Fanny Brice in the musical play "Funny Girl" which was a huge hit, all the while she was putting out albums and had a couple of enormously successful television specials, when Funny Girl was transferred to the big screen she went with it and won a Best Actress Oscar (tied with Katharine Hepburn for The Lion in Winter-the only time in the category's history). For the entirety of the 70's she was rated in the Box Office Top 10, she cut back on acting in the 80's to focus more on directing but remained active in the musical industry throughout. Obviously her catalog is vast and full of gems but probably the best way to begin is to check out her songs that went to #1 on the charts: Evergreen was one of those. The others are "The Way We Were" (the title song of one of her most popular films-she was again nominated for Best Actress and the tune won the Best Song Oscar), "You Don't Bring Me Flowers" (a duet with Neil Diamond), "No More Tears" (a duet with Donna Summer), and "Woman in Love". That only scratches the surface of her work but it will provide a start.
Great reaction. Love to see people discover Barbra for the 1st time. She was the GOAT. You have to react to her biggest wordwide hit from 1980. It is called Woman in Love written by the Bee Gees and produced by Barry Gibb it hit #1 in over 22 countries including the Billboard Hot 100. You will not be disappointed.
Barbras voice is like no other!!! her career started in the early 60s and still going strong!! she's 81! check out her singing "My Man" from her 1968 film Funny Girl, for which she won her first Oscar Award for.....make sure you watch the film version of her singing My Man, truly how to win an Oscar in under 3 minutes!!!
Barbra Streisand (born April 24, 1942, which makes her 81 years old at the time of writing this) is an American singer, songwriter, director, and actress. With a career spanning over six decades, she has achieved success in multiple fields of entertainment, and is among the few performers awarded an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony (EGOT). Streisand began her career by performing in nightclubs and Broadway theaters in the early 1960s. Following her guest appearances on various television shows, she signed to Columbia Records, insisting that she retain full artistic control, and accepting lower pay in exchange, an arrangement that continued throughout her career, and released her debut The Barbra Streisand Album (1963), which won the Grammy Award for Album of the Year. Throughout her recording career, Streisand has topped the US Billboard 200 chart with 11 albums (a record for a woman until 2023) including People (1964), The Way We Were (1974), Guilty (1980), and The Broadway Album (1985). She also achieved five number-one singles on the US Billboard Hot 100: "The Way We Were", "Evergreen", "You Don't Bring Me Flowers", "No More Tears (Enough Is Enough)", and "Woman in Love". The man singing with her in the clip from "A Star Is Born" is Kris Kristofferson. He and Barbra were dating at the time (1976). "A Star Is Born," the tragic love story that tackles the price of fame, the allure of showbiz, and the jealousy that can come with working in cutthroat creative industries, has been told four times on film: in 1937 starring Janet Gaynor and Fredric March, in 1954 starring Judy Garland and James Mason, in 1976 starring Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson, and in 2018 starring Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper. A ranking by Collider ranks the 1954 version as the best version, and states "Garland and Mason give the two best performances from any "A Star Is Born movie," and the film represents both legendary Hollywood stars at the peak of their powers. Yes, the movie is long, and some may find it melodramatic by today's standards, but it also has the most to offer out of any film with this narrative, and is bolstered considerably by the phenomenal acting on offer here. If for whatever reason you can only watch a single "A Star Is Born movie," the 1954 version is honestly the one to pick, without a doubt." The outstanding musical performance from the 1954 version is by Judy Garland singing "The Man That Got Away." You should react to it.
I am sooooooo happy that your're going down this path. I'll be looking for more. Been a fan of your reactions since you were doing them in your car. Great reaction!!
I've always adored Barbara since I was a kid. She was my mom's favorite female singer. I heard her beautiful voice almost daily. I am 57 now and love her still 💜❤️💜
This scene was done in one take. Kris said that he was overwhelmed to hear her sing this song which is why he was kind of shy. And they did have a cute little crush on each other during the filming.
Okay...this was actually an emotional experience for me, because it was one of my Grandma's all-time favorite songs. The last time I remember listening to this song was when I was a child. I remember this movie being on TV, and my Grandma was humming to the song in harmony with Barbra's singing. Jesus...that memory is so vivid!
@@anitawilliams7485 Still Wrong. The original movie was was with Janet Gaynor (1937), THEN Garland's (1954), THEN Streisand's (1976), THEN Lady Gaga's more recent remake. And actually, there is an even EARLIER version, so The Real Original, with the title "What Price Hollywood" from 1932.
Thanks much Jack! This was the third remake of "A Star Is Born". (I'd argue 4th...but that's another story! 😅). The movie grossed $80M (HUGE in '76), the soundtrack and "Evergreen" spent weeks at #1. Barbra won her 2nd Academy Award for composing the music to "Evergreen". All the songs in the film were recorded live and it was the first film released in Dolby 4-Channel Surround. This was a scene from my favorite version of A Star is Born. yes they had a great chemistry, but he was married to Rita Coolidge who had a bit part in the movie. Barbra co-produced the movie with her partner Jon Peters. Great song!
Barbra made her Broadway debut in 1962 in the musical “I Can Get It For You Wholesale” at the age of 20 and instantly became a star. She has remained one for over 60 years.
You have a sweet ear for music, Jack, and a wonderful appreciation for a once in a millenia voice. Barbra's vocal beauty is just part of what made her so adored and successful. Supposedly, she and Kris K had been an item a few years before they made this movie together. She won an Oscar and Golden Globe as songwriter for this and won a Grammy for Female Vocalist, too, I believe, or at least was nominated.

Too say the least I have been very much injoying theses requests lately wow another beautiful song love it she has a very nice voice much love 💜💜💜 y'all 😊
Dude, by the time Barbra did this one, she was already in the business for 15 yrs. and yes she is a freak of nature (with the aging process). Jewish blood has serious longevity. Check out her 1960's live performances.
Are you able to play Barbara Streisand and Barry Gibb of the Bee Gees singing the song 'GULITY'. Please can you play the live video film at a concert in Barbara's own garden
She actually wasnt that old in this video! I think the generation back than looked older than they were! She has a voice that gets you in your feels and gives you chills❤
Barbra is fabulous. This song with The Way we Were and Don't Rain on My Parade are my favourite songs by her. She also wrote the music for Evergreen and won an Oscar for it.
Barbra composed Evergreen! It won an Oscar. First female composer to win It's Kris Kristofferson a country and rock singer and actor. There were three Star Is Born. Barbra in 1976.
Streisand is unquestionably the greatest female pop singer of all time, whether you consider the quality of her voice or brilliance with which she interprets any lyric. If you want to check out one of her greatest performances ever, try I Never Has Seen Snow from her early 70s TV special Barbra Streisand and Other Musical Instruments. The artistry of that performance is unparalleled.
As a hardcore Barbra fan I'm a little over "Evergreen." But this version is so unique. It's taken from the film as her character Ester is recording her first album with the help of John Norman Howard, a kinda has-been rock star. So she is singing this LIVE on camera, not lip-synced (Barbra is not a good lip-syncer). As you can see, she is only using a hand held single earphone to hear the playback. Normally you wear a full headset in the sound booth when recording. But we can't mess up the hair for this shot in the movie. It has to be Barbra perfect - and it is!
Loved your reaction. This version was a One take wonder, unedited. Along with this one, the best live performances "Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered" 1963 Judy Garland Television Show, "Happy Days" duet, same show. Then?..."He Touched Me" Central Park concert 1967; "Silent Night" Central Park concert 1967. Get ready to be awe-struck. Barbra's been doing it for 60 years.
i loved this song as sung in the movie evergreen. the crowd wanted to hear the male vocalist and started booing as she begun singing. but as she continued, the crowd quietened and by the end they were cheering and clapping. most uplifting.
You started something now watching Barbra 😂 Now you have to see her films the two best in my opinion are funny girl, and the owl and the pussycat. Movies, soaps, songs everything was more passionate back then. Love was still in style.
The man singing with her is Kris Kristofferson also was an actor/singer and I do believe they dated but she is now married to James Brolin has been for many years. I was Blessed to grow up with this beautiful music and it makes me so happy that today’s younger generation has the chance to experience it and enjoy what they like. I loved all genres and one of my favorites was also Pink Floyd David Gilmour’s guitar solos were breath taking and so were his vocals. Thank you for your reaction it was great.
barbra streisand is 81 y.o. ,her male counterpart in Star is Born is Kris Kristofferson. Janet Gaynor did the 1st version of A Star is Born, Then Judy Garland, then Barbra Streisand, then Lady Gaga.FYI Batbra was Celine's idol when she was growing up. Streisand won an Oscar for her first film Funny Girl in 1968, her amazing vocals were the best part of the film.
"Damn, Barbara!" pretty much sums it up. I was 11 when this song came out, yet I wasn't familiar with this movie version. I think I like it even more. She also wrote it or co-wrote it.
Barbra’s A Star is Born the third film version! Judy garland, (see the song, The man that got away (version 2), and Gaga (version 4)- the song, I’ll never fall in love again. It’s like a holy trinity
This is a pretty song but it doesn't come close to really showcasing her voice. Try, “My Man” or “Woman in Love “ for solo performances or “ What kind of fool “ with Barry Gibb or “Enough is Enough “ with Donna Sommer for duets.
Wow you is a kid! She became famous at 20 years old in the 1960s! She wrote that song! That is actor/singer/songwriter Kris Kristofferson. She never has had any vocal training and is in her 80s now and can still sing well. Over each decade she has had a number one album, you should check out more of her music library.
There are four versions of "A Star is Born", the original was made in the 1930s. Many consider the 1950s version starring James Mason and Judy Garland the best of the four. The story however is basically the same. The men all play a washed up actor and or singer that meet and fall in love with an aspiring unknown actress/singer. The leading man discovers the woman, gets her career started, they fall in love marry and her career takes off and goes through the roof while his career basically comes to an end due to substance abuse. She feels both devoted and obligated to him because without him, she feels..she never would have had a career. I haven't seen the newer version with Bradley Cooper and Lady Ga Ga. With all due respect, I think the 1950s version is much better. Judy Garland gives a powerful peformance that should have won her an Oscar, but she was cheated out of it by the Hollywood brass but that's another story...LOL, oh by the way..Streisand was absolutely flawless in this performance of a beautiful song written by Paul Williams. Another fact not generally known about Streisand's version of "A Star is Born". Elvis was offered the role for the male lead, but Col. Parker Elvis' greedy manager asked for too much money so the plans to use Elvis (A part that Elvis REALLY wanted to do badly) was scrapped.
”People” is one of her signature songs! Watch the version from her concert “One voice” And you could easily listen to the whole concert she did in 1994. Barbra: The concert! Sooooo goood :) I just found you and if you want a new group to react to ( if you hadn’t already) I would suggest ABBA! Almost every song is brilliant! Dancing queen, voulez-vous, Chiquetita, Fernando, Money, Money, SOS, knowing me knowing you, The name of the game…. And it goes on and on and on :)

Somewhere.. is a song so beautifully sung by Barbara, a song that captures her magnificent voice perfectly, just the best and my favourite.
Love me some Barbara grew up listening her ❤❤
the first time I heard Barbra was in the 60's
Beautiful 🎵 ❤❤❤
Now listen to that voice, so beautiful & serene. Nice request BrettTwinSavage.
Thanks!
I believe Barbra Streisand was 34 years old in 1976.
Barbra is fabulous. This song with The Way we Were and Don't Rain on My Parade are my favourite songs by her.
She also wrote the music for Evergreen and won an Oscar for it.
I think this song is so beautiful, and at the same time, complicated to perform.
Shes beautiful and gifted. I love her playfulness and his respect and appreciation of her
Barbra has been singing award winning songs from 1960s to 2020s
Barbra composed Evergreen! It won an Oscar. First female composer to win
It's Kris Kristofferson a country and rock singer and actor.
Barbra is an incredible 80 years old!
This is from December 1976. She co-wrote the song and coproduced the soundtrack album.
"A Star is Born" movie has been made 4 times -- 1937, 1954, the 1976 version with Barbra & a smoking hot Kris Kristofferson, and the 2018 Gaga film.
This was mama’s music when she was driving. 😎
You need to hear her and baby face sing it 50 years later. She sounds amazing
Please, Please listen and watch the last song of "A Star Is Born" , Barbra performing the song "With One More Look At You" ! Absolutely Awesome song !
i loved this song as sung in the movie evergreen. the crowd wanted to hear the male vocalist and started booing as she begun singing. but as she continued, the crowd quietened and by the end they were cheering and clapping. most uplifting.
You have to react to Woman in Love. Her biggest global hit was #1 in over 22 countries. Barry Gibb produced it. It is her best pop song.
Yes they were acting, you would wonder the same of the duet with Barr Gibb!
You started something now watching Barbra 😂 Now you have to see her films the two best in my opinion are funny girl, and the owl and the pussycat. Movies, soaps, songs everything was more passionate back then. Love was still in style.
That is Kris Kristofferson who starred with her in A Star is Born
She started in 62 man!!
that was her co-star in the movie a Star is born ... his name is Kris Kristofferson
The Great Streisand! Thank you for reacting.
My freshman year in college I heard “People” on the jukebox and have been a fan ever since.
Barbra was born in 1942. She's 81
Sabbi saffi -something inside so strong a song made for every generation
Great response. New fan!
"A Star Is Born" as remade several times. This 1976 version was the third or fourth version of the film.
Ms. Streisand also wrote the melody of the song and she and Paul Williams collaborated to finish the song.
Hi Jack! Appreciate you doing these Streisand videos/songs! She is the OG of Female Singers!
Someone on the crew of the movie said that scene was a wrap in ONE TAKE! Amazing.
Barbra was born April 24 1942 she'll be 82 this April. She was 34 in a Star is Born. This song was done live with Kris Kristofferson.
This was recorded LIVE
The man singing with her is Kris Kristofferson also was an actor/singer and I do believe they dated but she is now married to James Brolin has been for many years. I was Blessed to grow up with this beautiful music and it makes me so happy that today’s younger generation has the chance to experience it and enjoy what they like. I loved all genres and one of my favorites was also Pink Floyd David Gilmour’s guitar solos were breath taking and so were his vocals. Thank you for your reaction it was great.
Loved your reaction. This one was my favorite of all the Star Is Born movies. There are some other great songs from this movie she did.
great!! :D cheers.
barbra streisand is 81 y.o. ,her male counterpart in Star is Born is Kris Kristofferson.
There's also a new duet version of this with Babyface.which I think you may like.
"Damn, Barbara!" pretty much sums it up. I was 11 when this song came out, yet I wasn't familiar with this movie version. I think I like it even more. She also wrote it or co-wrote it.
Awh man ...u should do the soundtraxk...A Star is Born!!
The Greatest Vocalist in the World. Try Like A Straw In the a Wind it's early Streisand. Unbelievable voice
movie and a live vocal take. The Cooper -A Star is born is the 3d time the movie was made. First was made circa 1955 with Judy Garland.
The first Star Is Born was made in the 1940. Kris Kristopherson was the male singer a country singer and songwriter.
The first "Star is Born" was in the 30's, starring Judy Garland.
Check HER out, singing "The Man that got Away"!!!!
The man is Kris Kristofferson. He wrote Me and Bobby McGee and Sunday Mornin' Comin' Down.
That's Kris Kristofferson.
Sooooo goood :)
I just found you and if you want a new group to react to ( if you hadn’t already) I would suggest ABBA! Almost every song is brilliant! Dancing queen, voulez-vous, Chiquetita, Fernando, Money, Money, SOS, knowing me knowing you, The name of the game…. And it goes on and on and on :)
You and your reactions - Streisand in this case - are DELIGHTFUL! (From a 72 year old gay guy) Much Love. Subscribed. Now Notified. Patreon has to be next, right?
There were four movies made of A Star is Born. This is the third. Lady Gaga made the fourth version. Great great song.
From A Star is Born. He is Kris Kristopherson famous singer and songwriter.
